Dozens of games are released every year, but not all of them offer cross-play. Even then, the ones that offer cross-play have unique differences, and so they’re not created to be equal. Oftentimes, cross-play is accompanied by cross-save which is a feature that allows players to share profiles and saves across multiple platforms. So you can start playing on a PlayStation and pick up where you left off on an Xbox. At least, that’s what we do at Player.com.

What’s Cross-Play?
Cross-play allows players to compete against each other across different platforms. So, a PlayStation user can play against a Nintendo Switch user. In most scenarios, the game’s cross-play doesn’t pair next-gen console owners with PS4 and Xbox One owners. Rather, PS4 and Xbox One owners can compete against each other, while PS5 and Xbox Series X users can play together. Ultimately, the limitations of cross-play depend on the game’s developer.
Top 10 Games with the Best Cross-Play
These are the top 10 games with the best cross-play features, and naturally, their campaigns are great. So, you can look forward to great content, a tight storyline, immersive lore, and top-notch visuals. That said, some of these games are only available on select platforms, but ultimately, the cross-play feature brings all the platforms together. Check out the games with the best online multiplayer modes.
#1: Final Fantasy 14 | Supported Platforms: PlayStation, Xbox, and PC
In Final Fantasy 14, you’ll explore a beautiful world with terrifying enemies and maddening politics. You’ll also be able to try out a couple of features, such as:
- Create Your Warrior of Light: You can select from dozens of races, backgrounds, and lore. Afterwards, you have full control over your appearance, including your hair, build, height, and skin tone.
- Play Co-Op: Playing with a friend couldn’t be easier because of cross-play. Seek a friend’s guidance or team up with one to beat and loot dungeons. It also features the chat bubble feature, which you can read about here.
- Choose Your Alliance: You can start in three cities, such as Gridania, Eorzea—Ul’dah, or Limsa Lominsa. Each of these regions has unique politics, biomes, and NPCs.
Additionally, there’s a cross-save so you can play with one profile across all the platforms that Final Fantasy 14 supports. The good thing about having cross-play is that the shared player pool is huge since the developers included all platforms.
#2: Fall Guys | Supported Platform: PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and Microsoft Windows
Fall Guys is a memorable game because of its cartoonish visuals and party royale system. However, there are other features of the game that we love, such as:
- Massive Online Player Pool: The online pool is massive, especially as Fall Guys is available across four platforms. You can complete challenges or crush the competition free-for-all.
- Many Joyful Moments: The game is rather simple yet complex because of its fun physics. You can also unlock more costumes and obstacles, among others.
- Cross-Progression Is a Feature: Besides the cross-platform feature, which boasts a considerable pool of players, there’s also a cross-save. It’s called cross-progression and to use it, just create an Epic Games Store user account.
#3: Fortnite | Supported Platforms: PlayStation, Xbox, and PC
Fortnite is probably one of the best games of the last decade because of its unique crafting system and smooth shooting mechanics. We particularly enjoyed the lush visuals and great soundtracks and music. You can also customise your character’s skins in Fortnite. Nowadays, the game is available in different modes, which include Solos, Teams, Duos, One Shot, Party Royale, Horde Rush, 50v50, Squads, and Wild West. The game’s other features are:
- Mods Galore: Fortnite is extremely fun to mod because of the community support and the backing of the developers. Need infinite ammo? There’s a mod for that. Likewise, if you want better textures and realistic visuals, they’re available too.
- Fun Battle Royale: The Battle Royale is entertaining since you’ll be competing in a 100-man tournament with other players. There are also fan-made games like racing, zombie survival, and many others.
- Dense Sandbox: The sandbox is dense and unique, but our favourite feature is that the environment is destructible. It adds a layer of realism to every gunshot and the crafting system.
- Great Crafting System: The crafting process is detailed and simple, yet still offers a lot of depth. You can craft buildings, blockades, and much more. Picture Fortnite as Minecraft, but with guns.
#4: Destiny 2 | Supported Platforms: PlayStation, Xbox, and Microsoft Windows
Destiny 2 was released in 2017 to solid critical acclaim and positive feedback because of its shooting mechanics and different classes. What’s more? Its cross-play feature is well-integrated with minimal server lag. After all, multiplayer isn’t limited to a platform, so the servers available are dedicated to multiple gaming platforms. A highlight is that Destiny 2 has a cross-save feature, which lets you play with one profile across all your devices.
- Pick from Three Classes: There are three classes in Destiny 2, which are Titan, Warlock, and Hunter. Titans are strong and independent aggressors who can keep themselves safe on the battlefield. Warlocks can manipulate the forces of the universe to decimate the battlefield, and Hunters are fast and agile shooters.
- Exotic Weapons and Armor: There are thousands of weapons and armor to go through. The customisation is in the millions, with new gear combos for you to develop your style.
#5: Honkai: Star Rail | Supported Platforms: PlayStation, Android, iOS, and Microsoft Windows
Honkai: Star Rail is developed by the creative minds behind Genshin Impact. It’s a tactical RPG, so you can expect some form of item inventory and, thus, a crafting system. The sandbox is also easy to explore, and there are dungeons to conquer. As is the norm with tactical games like this, you control teams of four, which you can customise down to your team members’ costumes.
The game is set in a science-fantasy universe where the living worship Aeons. It also features a universe-destroying entity and villains who aren’t afraid to unleash it on all the worlds of Honkai: Star Rail. So, you can expect deep lore to go with the awesome cross-play and cross-progression multiplayer features. Check out other HoYoverse games if you’re done with Honkai: Star Rail.
#6: Warframe | Supported Platforms: PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and Microsoft Windows
Warframe is one of the best space-action games that’s available on the market right now. It’s a streamlined version of Starfield, where you can choose your class and powers. It’s essentially like Baldur’s Gate 3, but with space exploration at the centre. We love Warframe because of its fast-paced combat and its sheer number of customisation options.
The game also supports cross-play, so you can play with friends across platforms. However, Warframe doesn’t have the cross-save option, so you can’t play on different platforms. Thankfully, there are tons of content that gamers can enjoy, and in fact, you can look forward to dumping hundreds of hours into this game.
#7: Genshin Impact | Supported Platforms: PlayStation, Android, iOS, Nintendo Switch, and Microsoft Windows
Genshin Impact is inspired by The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, so you can expect many fantasy elements. For one, the game is set in Teyvat, which is a kingdom of seven nations that are each governed by a god and an element. It follows The Traveler, an interstellar explorer who has been separated from his or her sibling. When you start the campaign, you’ll be able to choose between the Aether (Male) or Lumine (Female). Other features of the game that we loved playing around with are:
- Massive Sandbox to Explore: There are seven kingdoms in Genshin Impact, so there are many biomes and enemies to explore and fight, respectively.
- A Lengthy Campaign Awaits: A lengthy campaign ensures that you get your money’s worth. For one, be prepared to dump upwards of 100 hours into this game. Especially if you’re a completionist.
- Cross-Play and Cross-Save: You can add friends using their ID, and sure enough, a single profile is enough to play across multiple platforms. However, you’ll need to set up the cross-save function in your HoYoverse account.
#8: Rocket League | Supported Platforms: PlayStation, Xbox, PC, and Nintendo Switch
Picture playing a ball with rocket-powered cars, and Rocket League should pop up in your mind. You have a variety of cars to pick from, but the highlight is the cross-play feature. A PlayStation user can compete against a PC or Nintendo Switch gamer at any time. It also supports cross-progression so you’ll never lose your progress or profile information if you switch gaming platforms.
Besides that, the game’s visuals are amazing, and the soundtracks and music are catchy too. Since Rocket League was released in 2015, the creators have had enough time to release content. So far, there have been 12 seasons and many DLCs. This makes sense because there are 70 levels in the game. If you play on a PC, you can even mod your experience.
#9: Apex Legends | Supported Platforms: PlayStation, Xbox, PC, Nintendo Switch, and Mobile
Apex Legends’ Battle Royale is exquisite, offering much in the way of shooting mechanics, visuals, and cross-platform play. It was one of the first games that integrated cross-play. Apex Legend has huge community support as an indicator of its success following that integration. There are other features of the game that we love, such as:
- Choose from a Variety of Characters: Characters are distinct, and so are their powers and stats. You can also customise your characters down to their costumes and guns.
- Ever-Expanding Universe: Apex Legends takes place in a universe that’s always expanding. The creators of the game are hard at work polishing the game and adding new content to it.
- Strategic Team Plays: You assemble crews and combine powers to dominate the frontlines. Flank, distract, or straight-up destroy your enemies in Apex Legends. Luckily, you can do that using a variety of powerful weapons and tools.
#10: Forza Horizon 5 | Supported Platforms: Xbox and PC
Forza Horizon 5 is one of the best racing games available on next-gen consoles and gaming PCs. PlayStation fans can’t get their hands on this game because it’s exclusive to Xbox and, by default, Microsoft. In-game, you’ll explore lavish landscapes in a variety of fast cars. Heck, there are hundreds of challenges to complete, and along the way, you’ll meet new characters.
That said, it supports cross-play, so Xbox gamers can team up with PC players to beat missions and complete tasks. Otherwise, they can race each other to the finish line. There are also more stunts available now than ever, so Forza Horizon 5 is more of an adventure game than a racing title.
Our Final Say: Dozens of Other Cross-Play Games Exist
There are dozens of other cross-play games on the market to pick from, and they range from action games to racing titles. Nevertheless, the cross-play and cross-save features are always unique in games. Except if a game’s campaign is terrific, go for a title that supports both features. PC players can check out these Steam Deck alternatives.
