Among us — The game that rose to stardom in 2020 and accompanied us through our rough time during the pandemic. A game so simple yet captivating that has us in a loop of figuring out how to be a good civilian “Crewmate”, and seeking out the murderous villain “Imposter”.

Nowadays, the game is much more than just normal Crewmates and Imposters. With a dozen streamers finding and accessing new hacks and mods, the developers have no choice but to expand their game and add new roles to keep it fresh and exciting. Today, we at Player.me have composed a list of the different roles players have access to in Among Us 2023.
What Are the Different Character Role Additions in Among Us 2023?
As mentioned above, the game developers, “Innersloth“, have drawn upon their creativity and implanted new character roles into the game.
While the game stays true to its core of Crewmate and Imposters, the different roles within Crewmate and Imposters have given us a more diverse and brain-eating conundrum than it was.

5 Different Crewmate Roles in Among Us
Crewmate has evolved from only completing tasks, preventing sabotages, and reporting dead bodies. In 2023, the Crewmate has the ability to vent, check pulse from anywhere, and even shield someone from being killed.
1. Normal Crewmate

A Normal Crewmate role signifies that you have the most basic job of doing tasks and sniffing out the imposter. While you may feel bored and be cursing your luck if you get given this role constantly, remember that the game is all about the Crewmates voting out the Imposters.
So, get your thinking cap on and use your brain to deduce and quickly vote out the Imposters to advance to the next round, where you may be assigned a role with abilities.
2. Engineer

What happens when a good civilian gets branded as a villain for having the same ability they have? They cried innocence, but people just do not believe you. It is what occurs the most to players with the Engineer role. The Engineer role has the ability to vent. Yes, they can travel around the map in a vent, just like Imposters do.
There are merits and demerits of being an Engineer. You can prevent Imposters from jumping into the vent you are occupying and head to the emergency button to report them or get it horribly wrong and get turned on by others from seeing you in one. Please remember that the ability has a cooldown, and you cannot stay hidden forever.
3. Scientist

As the name implies, Scientist knows where all the other members, “His Subjects”, are. Ok, not literally. The Scientist has the ability to check the vitals of others via a portable Vitals monitor that can be accessed anywhere on the map. It will come in handy as you will know if your Crewmate teammates are still alive or dead.
If you get the timing right, you will see the exact moment when someone dies as the vital with the name goes from green to red. The Scientist should be clever in his words during meetings to isolate players that are wandering alone. If they fail to provide a good alibi, they are likely the Imposters.
4. Ghost

In Among Us, if you have been voted out or killed, tough luck, you are now a Ghost. However, you are not technically out of the game, as you can still win if your teammates win. As a Crewmate Ghost, one should strive to finish the remaining tasks and help his team complete the taskbar. If that is too mundane, you can sit back and spectate the game or chat with other Ghosts in the chat box.
If you are an Imposter Ghost, you can still help your teammate by Sabotaging. One of the best ways to piss other players off is to close the door to whichever room they are in or heading to.
5. Guardian Angel

The Among Us developers really understand our pain of getting killed first. Thus, they introduced a role that blesses us unfortunate souls. The Guardian Angel role kicks in after you become a Ghost. Now, you will have the ability to shield your living teammates from Imposters murdering them.
Only one Ghost assumes the role of Guardian Angel per round, so there is a silver lining to dying first. Please remember that the shield will wear off if you apply it too quickly.
2 Different Imposter Roles in Among Us
Imposter has evolved from only displaying your lying capabilities, running around, and murdering everyone. In 2023, Imposters have access to the most overpowered role in the game. One that literally shifts you into a crewmate, with the ability to kill and frame other crewmates.

1. Normal Imposter

We cannot deny that the Imposter role is way more fun than a Crewmate. Does it not give you satisfaction when you successfully complete a heist? Only me? Oops. As a normal Imposter, you will have access to vents and sabotages to help you in your quest to murder everyone in the lobby.
Utilise your lying skills during meetings and fitness your way to victory. One of the most common mistakes Imposters succumb to is admitting to having full vision despite the lights being off.
2. Shapeshifter

Shapeshifter is undeniably the best role in the game. The developers thought that giving the Imposters added advantage would be more fun. Well, they were right. If you are the Shapeshifter, you will have access to a shift button, thus allowing you to click on whichever living Crewmates you want to transform into.
But beware that others could see you morphing as it has an animation, so do it somewhere hidden.
Only one of the Imposters can be the Shapeshifter per round. If you were the lucky chosen one, utilise it to its utmost potential and create mayhem in the opposite camp.
Final Thoughts
Among Us is the game that keeps on giving. Without changing the game fundamentals, the different character roles have given us more versatility and options to ensure the game becomes even more chaotic than before.
