Kirby, the lovable pink puffball, has taken us on countless adventures through Forgotten Land. However, even in this whimsical world, glitches can sometimes disrupt the flow of our gaming experience. In this article, we’ll explore some of the frustrating but fun Kirby glitches.
1. Staircase Rocket Glitch
Alright, let’s dive into the first Kirby glitch on our adventure. Head on over to the stage. Walk through the tunnel, and when you reach the end, you’ll see a set of stairs. Inhale those stairs, shift them to the side, and let them out. Keep moving deeper into the stage, and you’ll come across another set of stairs. Bring these back to where the first set was and release them in the same spot. Inhale the first set of stairs once more.
Now, position yourself about halfway off a ledge and release the stairs one more time. These stairs should drop through the ledge. While this is happening, quickly make your way to the other set of stairs by the wall. The falling stairs will try to pop into existence within the other set, and their collision will push the other set away, sending them soaring high into the sky with Kirby. You’re in for some wild moments as you ride those stairs high into the heavens.
But, apart from that excitement, there’s not much more to do. If you make Kirby move, you’ll slide off the stairs, giving you a brief moment of freedom. However, as soon as Kirby disappears below the screen, he’ll be back on the ground, and things will return to normal. Well, except for the stairs – they’re gone for good.
2. Arch Mouth Out of Bound Glitch
In the “Scale to Summit” stage, a simple out-of-bounds Kirby glitch awaits you. When you’re in the gliding section, take a good look at the arch rock formation. If you carefully aim upward, Kirby can smoothly pass right through those rocks. Keep ascending, and you’ll soar far above the regular stage area. It might take a try or two, as a misjudged collision with the rocks will send you back to the gliding section’s starting point.
If you manage to glide high enough, you’ll venture so far out of bounds that almost all of the stage’s geometry vanishes, leaving only the ocean. You’ll notice an interesting effect – the game no longer clears the graphics buffer, resulting in an afterimage effect. Some of you might recognize a similar effect from your adventures in Super Mario 3D World.
If you decide to dive into the water, don’t worry; you’ll respawn back on the stage, ready to continue as intended.

Wild Bonkers Glitch
Now, let’s keep the ball rolling. We’re heading to Abandoned Beach, where you’ll encounter a mini-boss that you can surprisingly breeze past. So, in this area, you’ll run into Wild Bonkers. It’s usually a quick fight in casual play, but in a speed run, we completely skip it. Right before you reach the fight arena, there’s a specific tree where Kirby can perch in certain spots. This allows you to dodge the mini-boss encounter completely.
To get the extra height, you need to clear an invisible barrier, climb to the top of the tree and keep jumping as high as you can. Repeatedly press that jump button to float over the invisible wall, positioning yourself outside the fight boundaries. This means you can avoid triggering Wild Bonkers entirely. It’s super straightforward and incredibly convenient, especially when you’re in a hurry.
4. Mouthful Storage Glitch
Now, let’s dive into one of the quirkiest glitches, something you might expect in a game loaded with various powers and player stats. It goes by the name of “Mouthful Storage.” Here’s how it works: if Kirby takes damage at the precise moment, he starts inhaling a Mouthful Mode object, that state gets saved until you press the B button again. This means the Mouthful Mode you inhaled will activate no matter where Kirby is concerning where he initially began inhaling it.
You can even keep it when Kirby goes through a door into another stage section or uses a Warp Star. This lets you carry Mouthful Modes to places the game developers never intended, which is always fascinating, even if it’s not particularly practical. But it’s a breeze to pull off, so why not give it a try?
With Mouthful Storage, you can even take Mouthful Modes to Warp Stars, which usually require you to jump on them. In the “Wastes Where Life Began” stage, you can access a Warp Star platform without using Mouthful Storage. With the Ring Mouth ability, carefully jump on a tree to gain enough height to reach the Warp Star platform.
5. Tropic Woods Glitch
Now, let’s talk about the “Tropical Terror” stage, where you face Tropic Woods. But there’s a 12-second cutscene before the action starts. Speedrunners, who like to save time, have a cool trick. Fortunately, there’s a simple glitch that can help. After climbing the ladder toward Tropic Woods, move to the right and stand close to the fence post. Then, hold down either ZL or ZR to crouch-guard. After that, push the control stick upwards, followed quickly by pushing it to the right. If you do it right, the boss battle should begin without the annoying cutscene.
The beauty of this little shortcut is that you can still defeat the boss with a copy ability and finish the mission without having to rely on a copy ability. This is a sweet deal, especially in 100% completion runs. It’s quicker to take down Tropic Woods with an ability like Fire. Plus, you can take a few hits and still complete the mission, making this glitch incredibly handy.
Not only does it mess with the missions, but it also keeps those gold cages with Waddle Dees intact throughout the cutscene. As a bonus, another golden cage even appears after you’ve defeated Tropic Woods, adding an extra layer of delightful chaos. All in all, this skip is cool, straightforward, and exceptionally useful.
6. Load Zone Out of Bounds Glitch
Let’s explore another intriguing discovery at Abandoned Beach, involving a rather peculiar doorway. To unveil this quirky glitch, you’ll need to hunt down a hidden switch perched high on a cliff. Once you’ve triggered that switch and sauntered through the door, something rather unusual unfolds.
If you happen to bid farewell to your ability just as you step through the door, the typical load zone doesn’t engage. Instead, Kirby finds himself in an out-of-bounds predicament. You can venture beneath this segment of the stage, catching a behind-the-scenes view and witnessing the camera’s comical antics.
The camera valiantly attempts to keep an eye on you, and once you’ve had your fill of this peculiar adventure, it’s surprisingly straightforward to reach the load zone and restore things to their usual state.

7. Fire Super Jump Glitch
Now, let’s dive into one of the most enjoyable and practical glitches in the game that takes advantage of the Fire and Hammer abilities. First, let’s look at the Fire ability version. With any of the Fire abilities, jump and then float by holding the A button until Kirby is out of breath. Then, press the B button to descend toward the ground.
Just as Kirby is about to touch the ground, press B again briefly, and then mash the A button. Mashing the A button isn’t strictly necessary, but unless your timing is perfect, it makes achieving the desired result much easier.
If you succeed, you’ll perform a glitch known as the Fire Super Jump, propelling Kirby high into the air, much higher than intended.
8. Hammer Super Jump Glitch
Now, this is fun and all, but the Fire Super Jump pales in comparison to the Hammer variant of this glitch, the Hammer Super Jump. The execution is quite similar to the Fire Super Jump, but it’s actually easier. Again, with any of the Hammer abilities, jump and float by holding the A button. Once Kirby is exhausted, press B to puff and fall to the ground.
Then, press and hold B again to perform the Hammer spin attack. When the Hammer makes contact with the ground, press A, and Kirby should launch into the air again. Depending on the timing of your A button press, you’ll achieve slightly different results. Press too early, and nothing will happen. Press too late, and you’ll gain significantly less height. However, this glitch is quite forgiving, so with practice, you’ll find it’s relatively easy to pull off.
Summing Up
There you have it, a series of wild Kirby glitches in Kirby and the Forgotten Land. Remember that glitches, while occasionally frustrating, add an element of unpredictability and fun to the gaming experience. Embrace the quirks, report issues to developers, and continue enjoying your adventures in Kirby and the Forgotten Land.
