EA Sports WRC is a racing video game that was developed by Codemasters using Unreal Engine 4, instead of the studio’s usual game engine, Ego. It’s officially licensed by the World Rally Championship, a first since 2002’s Colin McRae Rally 3. The game has been available for purchase since November 3, 2023. Since it’s a recent game, we were hoping to play the game in Unreal Engine 5, but that wish will have to wait until the next iteration of EA Sports WRC.
The game shines because every reviewer at Player.com can build the car of their dreams to crush the competition. That’s easier said than done because a great car doesn’t necessarily guarantee victory. Instead, players must get good at traversing different terrains under varying weather conditions and against other experienced players and AIs. You’ll need at least 95 GB of storage space to play EA Sports WRC on your gaming PC.

Platforms That Support EA Sports WRC
EA Sports WRC supports several platforms including the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PCs running Windows. The upcoming MacBooks are touted to fully support gaming, unlike previous versions. However, for the time being, macOS users can’t play EA Sports WRC. PC gamers can purchase the game from Steam and Epic Games Store.
6 Reasons EA Sports WRC Is So Special
EA Sports WRC is developed by the same studio behind the DiRT game series, Codemasters. So, their art style and driving mechanics are bound to be similar. However, EA Sports WRC has its merits too, even though its reviews aren’t fairing too well, even a month after its release. This subsection is dedicated to all of the game’s best features. Meanwhile, check out the top PS5 racing games.
Part of those features are quality-of-life perks such as PC controller support, custom graphic settings, virtual reality with a compatible headset, widescreen support, a livery editor, and support for NVIDIA DLSS and AMD Fidelity FX. As you may have noticed, these features are exclusive to PCs. Thankfully, you’ll be able to capture all of your adrenaline-pumped moments via Photo Mode, which is supported by all of EA Sports WRC’s platforms.
#1: Enjoy the Road Feel
A dynamic handling system is at the core of EA Sports WRC and it’s impressive because of its multi-surface handling model. In layman’s terms, the road feel is always different for every terrain because of the handling system. This is particularly enjoyable on the PS5 because of its DualSense. Haptic feedback introduces a level of unprecedented realism to races, especially as players will feel all the nuances, including:
- Surface degradation is real; No track is truly the same after the first lap.
 - Adaptive triggers provide a sense of traction loss, which urges players to adjust their steering.
 - Directional information like collisions, tyre pressure, and suspension provides enough feedback to immerse players in the game.

#2: Experience Captivating Visuals
You can experience EA Sports WRC in 4K resolution on your PS5 and Xbox Series X at 60 FPS. The graphics on next-gen consoles are comparable to PC visuals at high settings. However, the Xbox Series S can only run the game at a lower resolution of 1440p but it’s still at 60 FPS. The graphics of EA Sports WRC on the Xbox Series S are technically equivalent to running the game at medium settings on PCs.
For the best graphics ever, try playing the game on a PC gaming rig and you’ll even be able to mod the life out of the game. At the same time, you’ll get the best shadows, lighting, weather systems, animations, textures, and even loading times. Hopefully, in the future, we’ll be able to experience the game in 8K resolution with the help of mods.
#3: A Cross-Platform Multiplayer Awaits
One of the highlights of buying EA Sports WRC is that it supports cross-platform multiplayer, a feature of Forza Horizon 5. This means that PC gamers can race against PS5 or Xbox Series X users and vice versa. So, if you’re engaged in a rivalry with a friend, your platforms of choice don’t matter anymore. Just search for your friend’s name, decide the race rules, and you’re good to go. On the flip side, you need a stable Internet connection to enjoy EA Sports WRC’s multiplayer mode. Also, EA games don’t support cross-save, so you can’t switch platforms anytime soon.
#4: The Builder Mode Is Revolutionary
There are upwards of 70 rally cars in EA Sports WRC and all of them are meticulously detailed down to their suspensions and rims. No two cars are the same as far as handling, acceleration, and top speed go. That said, some of the cars available in the game are:
- The Colin McRae R4.
 - The i20 N of Hyundai.
 - The Puma of M-Sport.
 - The Ford Fiesta Rally3
 - The Ford Fiesta Rally4.
 - The GR Yaris of Toyota.
 - The Citroën Xsara WRC.
 - The Mini John Cooper Works WRC.

While many gamers won’t drive half of the cars the game offers, the developer didn’t stop there. Welcome the Builder Mode, a first for racing games that has the potential to build an infinite variety of cars. You can build any car you want, including racing cars from real-life races. Heck, the only thing holding many players back is their imagination.
You’ll be able to customise your chassis, bumpers, body shell, suspensions, tyres, and even the interior of your dream car. So, brakes, clutches, gearboxes, and engines are tuneable. Furthermore, you’ll be allowed to choose one out of three real-life World Rally Championship classes. They are the WRC, WRC2, and the Junior WRC.
#5: Immersive Sound and Music
Everything is super detailed as far as music and sounds are concerned. Sure, games like Super Mario RPG have much better scores, but EA Sports WRC is satisfactory too. For one, you’ll hear much more than the sound of your engine or tyres in EA Sports WRC. Our favourite is the scraping sound of your car’s gearbox as you shift gears. Everything from braking and drifting to collisions with the environment will affect your engine’s roar.
Whenever you’re driving alone in the desert, these sounds are great for immersing yourself deeper in the game. You can also expect cars to sound unique because no two engines are the same. This is one of the reasons that Builder Mode is sweet.
#6: Over 18 Locations to Explore
EA Sports WRC is home to many locations with lush vegetation and fauna. Additionally, these locations are true-to-life, so each corner you tackle is modelled after the real deal. Heck, there are over 600 KM worth of terrain to explore, including deserts, snow-ridden trails, swamps, asphalt, and gravel. They’re:

- Chile: South America is a gorgeous region and Chile is no different. Trails in this country test your versatility as a driver, but thankfully, there’s a pattern. There are more gravel roads than not, but they’re varied.
 - Iberia: It’s a fictional rally that’s set in southwestern Europe, where you speed through the towns of España. Thankfully, there are many tarmac roads here so you can go all-out; No brakes are needed.
 - Croatia: Zoom through peaceful villages and mountain roads as you push the boundaries of speed. Thankfully, there are asphalt roads everywhere you go.
 - México: Enjoy the Guanajuato Rally México, which is set in a desert. You’ll drive through tons of gravel and dirt in this location, so make sure you equip the appropriate tyres.
 - Japan: The Japan region takes you to the mountains of Chūbu, which is known for its steep slopes. So, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to speed up; Use them to beat the odds.
 - Portugal: Explore the countryside in the Vodafone Rally de Portugal and test your handling skills on dirt roads. Gravel, cobblestones, and tarmac, there are tons of terrains to enjoy.
 - Finland: Pull off daring stunts like jumps and drift through corners at high speeds. There are many gravel roads in this country, so don’t forget to fine-tune your car. To be specific, upgrade your car’s suspension.
 - Greece: Greece is a beautiful country with tons of landscapes that are worth the game’s Photo Mode. However, its dangerous mountain trails and gravel roads are anything but pretty. Expect harsh, dirt-filled stages so be sure to equip better tyres.
 - Kenya: Drive across the African wilderness in the fastest cars on dirt roads. You chase glory, fame, and riches in the harsh Kenyan stages.
 - Estonia: You’ll drive across serene countryside where lush forests are the norm. However, don’t be distracted by the scenery because your rivals definitely won’t stop to stare.
 - Pacifico: Pacifico takes you to the harsh jungles of East Asia where the weather is hot and humid. The roads are mostly gravel so your suspension and tyres will be tested a lot. Yes, this is a fictional region
 - Oceania: There are many rolling hills and gravel roads akin to swamp tracks for you to tackle in Oceania. Oceania is also a fictional location, but it’s as harsh as the likes of Kenya and Croatia.
 - Scandia: In Scandia, it’s always winter, so you need studded tyres to move fast. You’ll zoom past frozen trees and roads but traction is a big issue in this location. So, make sure your brakes are responsive or you’ll lose many matches.
 - Sweden: This is another snowy terrain but without that many corners. So, you’ll be able to test your car’s limits and its braking capabilities. Just fine-tune your car’s engine to gain an advantage.
 - Sardegna: Speed through the dirt roads of Sardegna, a Mediterranean island that’s as beautiful as it’s treacherous to traverse. There are not enough asphalt roads here, so bring fitting tyres or you’ll be left in the dust — literally.
 - Monte-Carlo: This is a mountainous terrain with many twists and turns. However, the asphalt roads are icy because of winter so please watch your surroundings.
 - Mediterraneo: Unlike many other regions in EA Sports WRC, Mediterraneo is fully fictional. However, the region is rich in historical landmarks and asphalt roads with minimal turns. Gaining speed and keeping it is an easy task in Mediterraneo, which is why it’s so fun. Just don’t forget to equip capable brakes or else you’ll crash when you’re supposed to drift corners.
 - Central Europe: Central Europe is a location that didn’t launch with the game. However, it’s part of a post-launch update that takes players to frozen roads and dangerous corners. Central Europe is still not available.

Between these 18 countries, players will find more than 200 stages, including well-known trails that let you perform jumps and tackle corners. Unlike Need for Speed games that reward the fastest players, EA Sports WRC rewards players with the best handling. This is because the tracks are filled with sharp corners.
Our Final Say: The Quality of the Visuals Pales in Comparison to Our Experience in DiRT Games
DiRT games are still visually ahead of EA Sports WRC, even though they’re developed by the same studio. Thankfully, there are no signs of crunching, especially with the average review scores the game is getting. Both of these games are racing simulators that take players to gravel roads, swamps, and tarmac tracks. However, EA Sports WRC boasts better quality-of-life features like the Builder Mode, which helps you construct any car you want.
The sheer number of customisations that are available for your projects is astonishing. It’s almost like you’re playing a Need for Speed game because this type of racing game usually has preset cars and stats. So, it’s a first for the genre, and so far, it has been a nifty little feature that we can’t do without.
