Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is Hideo Kojima’s latest adventure work about the post-apocalyptic world of Death Stranding. In it, the realm of the dead has successfully collided with the world of the living, leading to the release of nightmarish creatures, such as the Beached Things. Death Stranding 2: On the Beach will be released in 2025 and one of the facets of the game Player.com is interested in is the enemy variety.

5 Types of Enemies in Death Stranding 2: On the Beach
We’ve compiled a list of five enemy types that players will encounter in Death Stranding 2: On the Beach. Yes, a few are new, while others were present in the prequel. Some gamers wouldn’t mind fighting Clifford Unger again; He is played by Mads Mikkelsen. However, Cliff eventually accepts Sam as his son, so he’s not an enemy anymore. To that end, check out five types of enemies you’ll battle or evade on your journey through the game.
#1: Cyborg Ninjas
Cyborg Ninjas are the cream of the crop as far as Hideo Kojima games go. Back in Metal Gear Solid, fans were delighted with the appearance of many Cyborg Ninjas. Naturally, Cyborg Ninjas were extremely capable of espionage and assassination missions, with memorable mentions being Raiden, Gray Fox, and Olga Gurlukovich. Of course, gamers played as Raiden in some games, including Metal Gear Solid: Revengeance, but many Cyborg Ninjas also opposed Big Boss and his goals.
In a trailer for Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, we saw a Cyborg Ninja, which means camouflage suits, razor-sharp Katanas, and inhuman acrobatics. The trailer shows the Cyborg Ninja defending Sam from Higgs, but that doesn’t mean he’s not an enemy either. Death Stranding 1 was a slow-paced game because Sam was always delivering supplies. Thus, critics bullied the game as a delivery and logistics game.
Thankfully, Hideo Kojima is fast-tracking the events of Death Stranding 2: On the Beach based on our complaints. For one, we already know the protagonist and the antagonist and the same could be said of their clashing ideas. So, we’re hoping to explore a better range of weapons and traversal tools for engaging enemies. The choice to avoid or engage in combat is always welcomed in Hideo Kojima games.
#2: Beached Things
Beached Things are souls that have been stranded in the world of the living, so they’re like cancer upon the world. Beached Things are also hostile to all living things, so humans aren’t the only ones on the receiving end. This is because of their makeup, which sadly contains antimatter. Once they devour a human, they combust in an explosion rivalling that of multiple nuclear bombs. In short, BTs are civilisation-ending entities that don’t mix well with living beings.
Beached Things allegedly can’t cross over to the afterlife, so they’re stuck in the land of the living as eldritch abnormalities. Moving forward, there are also different types of Beached Things, including:
- Gazers: Gazers are floating spectrals that sense Sam by sound and come in two forms, adult and infant. To dodge them, players usually had to hold their breath or completely stop moving until they were at a safe distance.
- Catchers: Sam is hunted by Catchers whenever Gazers appear. Wherever you find tar covering the ground and immobilising cars and other objects, Catchers are usually nearby.
- Jellyfish: Jellyfish is another enemy type that can be found in Death Stranding. They exploded once they were close enough to players, splashing enemies with tar to cause considerable damage.
In Death Stranding 2, we will see more types of enemies with unique combat abilities that force gamers to be creative. Do you hit-and-run or simply evade the Beached Things? The choice is entirely up to you.
#3: MULES
MULES are the Porters of Death Stranding and they will reappear in the upcoming PlayStation exclusive. Like other Porters, they transport cargo across the post-apocalyptic sandbox of the game. To that end, they will always attack Sam if they notice he’s carrying cargo. However, if he’s not carrying any cargo, Sam is left to his own devices. Of course, they’re a possessive bunch, who will attack any trespassers on their territory.
In the original game, MULE camps are rich in resources such as resin, ceramics, chemicals, special alloys, and, on rare occasions, weapons. So, invading their camps was always a fun experience, especially as they only knocked players out. That said, MULES will temporarily die if you take them down using lethal methods. However, knocking MULES out will respawn them faster than usual. If a MULE robbed Sam, you’ll likely find your supplies at a MULE camp.
#4: Higgs and His Band of Homo Demens
Higgs is a former porter whose partnership with Amelie has undermined his good deeds. He’s later given powers by Amelie (Sam’s adoptive sister), which include the ability to control all forms of BTs. During the final fight against Higgs in Death Stranding 1, he deployed different types of BTs during the encounter and he didn’t struggle with controlling them.

Higgs can also control the same viscous black liquid that’s deployed by BTs to catch enemies; It’s called tar. Besides that, he can also control the weather, teleport, predict the future to a certain extent, and even control objects or himself with his mind. He’s nigh immortal and the only reason Sam defeated him was because he let his emotions get the better of him. In the upcoming PlayStation exclusive, Higgs has already been seen battling a Cyborg Ninja with a completely different fighting style. So, we look forward to his new abilities in Death Stranding 2: On the Beach.
#5: Tanks and Other Vehicular Enemies
Tanks and other machines similar to the Metal Gears from the Metal Gear Solid series appeared in the latest trailer. Clearly, Metal Gears such as Sahelanthropus inspire the new technological marvels in this PlayStation exclusive. So, we’re interested in Sam’s approach to combating such foes.
Our Final Say: Death Stranding 2: On the Beach Is Gearing up to Be Another Hideo Kojima Masterpiece
The original Death Stranding disappointed many gamers because of its lack of action and slow storytelling. However, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is already introducing new enemy types and a combat-focused story that continues the violence and explorative elements of its prequel. Hopefully, the delivery missions will take a backseat in the new game. Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is exclusive to PlayStation and so far, only the PS5 has been confirmed.
