Black Salt Games has officially revealed that their critically acclaimed eldritch horror fishing game, Dredge, will make its way to mobile platforms later this year. Developer Joel Mason announced the upcoming Dredge mobile ports on Android, iOS, and macOS devices via Twitter, confirming a December 18, 2024, release date.
Since its debut, Dredge has been praised as one of the best horror games of 2023, blending horror elements with a fishing simulation in a unique way. Players take on the role of a lone fisherman navigating eerie waters, catching fish by day and facing unimaginable horrors by night. What initially seems like a quirky, cozy experience quickly turns dark as sea monsters emerge from the deep, attacking your ship and adding layers of mystery and fear to the gameplay.
The game is renowned for its immersive, thalassophobia-inducing world design and has already garnered a large player base across various platforms, including PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch. Now, players can take this horror RPG adventure wherever they go, thanks to the upcoming Dredge mobile ports.
Dredge Mobile Is Releasing with Demo

As mentioned above, Dredge mobile will launch on iOS, macOS, and Android devices on December 18, 2024. While iOS and Mac users can pre-order the game and even try out a demo before purchase, Android users will have to wait a little longer to register, as the developer is currently facing issues with the Google Play Store. Mason humorously acknowledged the problem, tweeting, “Google doesn’t believe we own the rights to our own game.”
Both versions will be premium purchases, meaning players can expect a completed game experience without the intrusion of ads or pop-ups. According to the developer, Dredge mobile will deliver the same gameplay experience as the console and PC versions, though details about DLC content, such as The Pale Reach and The Iron Rig, remain unclear. There’s speculation that DLCs may arrive as in-app purchases, similar to how they are available on Steam and consoles.
Dredge Mobile Will Not Have Optimisation Issues

CEO and Dredge producer Nadia Thorne assured fans that the game has been fully optimised for mobile devices, including touch inputs. “We’ve spent some time optimising the experience for mobile screens, and it plays really nicely on the small or square screens of phones and tablets,” she said.
This optimisation promises that Dredge mobile will maintain its atmospheric tension and gameplay fluidity, allowing players to experience the terrors lurking beneath the ocean’s surface. The mobile release will likely appeal to both veteran players and newcomers, especially those looking to enjoy a high-quality, narrative-driven horror game on the go.
In addition, as a premium purchase on both the App Store and Google Play Store, players won’t have to deal with intrusive ads or pop-ups, providing a clean and immersive gameplay experience.
Dredge’s Continued Success
As touched above, 2023 was a standout year for Dredge, which saw massive success on both the critical and commercial fronts. The game’s unique combination of fishing and Lovecraftian horror helped it stand out from the crowded indie scene, earning it spots on many end-of-year lists for best games. Dredge’s success also led to its inclusion in PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium lineups earlier this year.
The Dredge mobile ports mark yet another massive milestone for the game and its developer, Black Salt Games, which has consistently expanded Dredge’s reach. And with a live-action movie adaptation currently in the works — produced in collaboration with Story Kitchen, the studio behind the Sonic the Hedgehog films — the Dredge franchise shows no signs of slowing down.
With fans eagerly awaiting the mobile release on December 18, 2024, they can rest assured that Dredge’s harrowing blend of atmospheric tension and eerie storytelling will be fully intact on smaller screens. For more coverage on the game or many more, follow our Facebook page.
