A Few Things to Take Note of the New Adobe Express Beta on Mobile
The new Express mobile beta aligns with the platform used in the updated desktop version introduced last year. This restoration of collaborative workflows enables teams to collaborate on shared creative projects seamlessly across both desktop and mobile devices for users of the beta app. However, individuals still utilising the current Adobe Express mobile app will not have access to these features.
In addition, according to Ian Wang, vice president of product for Adobe Express, users won’t immediately find their projects from the current mobile app in the new Adobe Express beta version. However, once the new app transitions out of Adobe Express beta, it will seamlessly migrate all historical data from the old app, ensuring continuity for users.

How to Get the New Adobe Express Beta on Mobile?
During the Adobe Express beta phase, users can freely download the app, gaining access to Premium features such as erase and remove background tools without any extra charges compared to the original $9.99 per month subscription. In fact, the feature for erasing and removing background is a useful and common tool that many apps have equipped with such as Microsoft Photos background remover and Instagram’s Backdrop feature.
However, advanced Firefly-powered generative AI features like Generative Fill and Text to Image effects will necessitate Adobe’s generative credits. During the Adobe Express beta, users will receive 25 credits per month, but the number of monthly credits will be linked to the users’ subscription tier once the mobile app is officially released.
Generative AI features in Adobe Express operate via cloud processing rather than device-based processing. However, not all smartphones are compatible with the new Adobe Express beta version. A list of supported devices can be found here in this link. While Adobe Express beta is accessible on Google Play Store for Android users, iOS users must sign up here due to restrictions imposed by Apple on the number of beta users.
A Bit More on Adobe Firefly
Adobe’s Firefly AI capabilities have been accessible as separate web applications since September 2023, making them suitable for experimentation but cumbersome for design workflows on mobile devices. In contrast, the new Adobe Express beta marks the first mobile application to integrate these features with other design tools, providing a significant advantage over Canva, a competing design platform that has yet to offer their “Magic Studio” AI features to mobile users.
