Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III is scheduled to be released on November 10, 2023. PlayStation, Xbox, and PC players will be able to play the game once it’s launched. For now, there’s no release date for the Nintendo Switch. The game is expected to feature better maps, more fluid gun mechanics, and better animations. Also, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II received positive reviews but some features were missing. Luckily, they’re returning to this sequel.

New Maps | New Manoeuvers
There are 16 maps in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III and they’re available as 6 versus 6 maps. Over time, more than 12 Core maps will be added through seasonal content. So, the game is supposedly going to be extremely replayable. The maps that will be available in the game are:

- Skidrow.
- Afghan.
- Scrapyard
- Underpass.
- Karachi.
- Derail.
- Terminal.
- Estate.
- Rundown.
- Waste Land.
- Sub Base
- Favela.
- Quarry.
- Highrise.
- Rust.
- Invasion.
Note that all these maps are 6 versus 6 maps. At launch, there will be a total of 20 multiplayer maps. So, there’s enough content to entertain players for a few months.
Gameplay Changes
The movements and animations have been tweaked. You’ll notice that your Specialist’s moves are different, seemingly being able to perform new feats. This isn’t a Call of Duty versus Counter-Strike debate but gun spray is a weak point in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III. However, you can now shoot while sliding, though that’s only the tip of the iceberg.

- You can now slide cancel into cover.
- Mantling objects is second nature now, so you’re more agile.
- Blink and you won’t see your character reload his or her guns.
- The Tactical Stance is a mid-point between firing from your hip and aiming down. It tightens your gun’s spread while still allowing you to move freely. It looks awesome.
A Refined Perk System
The Perk System is now multi-faceted instead of being as simple as before. There are now four categories, which are applied to Gloves, Vests, Boots, and Gear. All four categories come with different Perks, so you can experiment until you find a build that fits your play style.
A Literal Guns Galore | Watch Them Strip for You
Besides the fact that new guns will be introduced, the game allows you to tinker with your guns even after maxing out your level with them. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III also introduces a new Aftermarket Parts system. Handguns, SMGs, LMGs, and many more now have unique progression paths that’ll allow you to modify your weapons even further.

You can modify a handgun into an SMG or derive bullpup shotguns from LMGs. Other gadgets that are now available in the new game are Breacher Drones, Mosquito Drones, Comm Scrambler, and an Automated Computer Spike. Breacher Drones can be used to distract enemies or drop explosives, but they aren’t that fast. Mosquito Drones instead divebomb enemies out of existence, while an Automated Computer Spike can hack enemy equipment. Lastly, you can use the Comm Scrambler to stop enemy Field Upgrades from working within a radius.
New and Familiar Modes
Players can look forward to gunning down opponents in familiar modes. This includes the likes of Team Deathmatch, Domination, Kill Confirmed, Hardpoint, and Ground War. In simpler terms, below is what you should expect from them.

- Team Deathmatch: Eliminate enemy players tactically and rack up points until you reach the score limits.
- Domination: Capture flags and hold them until the given time elapses.
- Kill Confirmed: Kill enemy players and pick up their tags to earn points. The player with the highest number of tags wins the round.
- Hardpoint: Capture and hold the different Hardpoint zones during a match. The team with the highest kill count wins the round.
- Ground War: This involves a large map with vehicles for players to transverse long distances. You’ll be given plenty of tools and guns to eliminate enemy players.
There’s a new Survival mode that allows one or two players to battle an onslaught of enemies. This mode gets progressively harder and enemies don’t spawn from the same spot. So, you never know what’s coming, which is an unpredictability that we want.
Likewise, Cutthroat is also a new mode being introduced in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III. In it, three teams of three players will fight each other for the win. This 3v3v3 team mode will be played on Core maps in an elimination-style round. Otherwise, teams can wait overtime to capture a flag instead. So, it’s a lovable balance of violence and strategy.
Also, the Ground War mode is making a comeback, and it includes the War mode, which was last seen in Call of Duty: WWII. You’ll complete various missions across the map, including vehicle protection jobs. Some core mechanics like Perk-a-Cola drinks, weapon wallbuys, and the Mystery Box will also be present in the sequel. Besides that, an open-world PvE Zombies mode that is developed by Treyarch and Sledgehammer Games will also be introduced. Up to 24 players will play against each other in Urzikstan and will battle both zombies and AI-controlled human enemies. Urzikstan is a large map, so it’s divided into zones with varying levels of difficulty.
How Do I Play Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III Open Beta?
A Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III Open Beta is already available in multiplayer mode with huge maps. You can read more about the Open Beta here so this is just an overview. Moving forward, you can get a taste of all the changes we mentioned without having to wait until it’s released in November. You can download the Open Beta from the Microsoft Store and sure enough, players who have pre-ordered it will be given early access. Keep in mind that you can only play it on Xbox consoles.
The Beta includes seven maps, which are five Core maps and two Ground War maps. The Core maps are Favela, Estate, Rust, Skidrow, and Highrise. On the other hand, the Ground War maps you can expect are the Orlov Military Base and Popov Power Plant.
Our Final Say: We Don’t Mind a New Approach
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II didn’t quite achieve the legendary success of Call of Duty: Warzone. However, the campaign mode of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II sets it apart from the Battle Royale mode of Call of Duty: Warzone. Naturally, the prequel to this game sold millions of copies. So, we can expect to play a campaign mode in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III that is as good as its prequel.
However, we can’t refute the fact that the graphics of the sequel haven’t changed compared to 2022’s Call of Duty game. In fact, there are almost no changes to the art style and guns sound the same. Let’s not forget that the same decade-old maps are still in circulation. Though, this time around, they’re available in 4K resolution. Still, besides the nostalgic appeal of winning on these maps, we would love to see the whole Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III map list created from scratch.
Frequently Asked Questions
What Is the Size of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III?
PC and Xbox users need at least 25 GB of space to download Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III. This is the beta pre-load, hence the small size, so the game is bound to grow in size once it’s released to the public. Once it’s released, players can expect the size to inflate to around 100 GB. So, you should start clearing some space for this behemoth of a game.
Can You Play Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III Online or Offline?
Yes, you’ll be able to play Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III both offline and online. This includes all of the game’s modes, including the campaign and multiplayer modes. Keep in mind that Activision hasn’t confirmed these modes, but previous Call of Duty games were available to play online and offline. So, there’s no reason to assume that the new game won’t dance to the same tune.
How Many Maps Will There Be in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III?
There will be 20 maps in the beginning with 16 of them being 6v6 Core maps. These maps include remastered versions of the 2009 Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II maps. So, you can expect tons of familiarity, which will help you quickly outmanoeuvre your opponents. The new game also includes memorable maps from older Call of Duty games that players will enjoy exploring in 4K resolution.
