El Paso, Elsewhere, one of the best-received games of 2023, is finally making its way to PlayStation 5 on September 6. Developed by Strange Scaffold, a studio known for its unique and innovative game concepts, El Paso, Elsewhere is a third-person shooting and horror, combining intense, action-packed gameplay with a deeply narrative-driven experience.
The game was a sleeper before its official release, but it has since garnered mostly positive reviews, sitting at 9/10 on Steam and being nominated for multiple year-end awards. El Paso, Elsewhere even earned itself a film adaptation, but there is always a little nitpick that it is only available exclusively to PC and Xbox.
However, with the game officially receiving its release date on PS5 in two months, people using the coveted gaming platform can finally experience its narrative storytelling and atmospheric design. As for Nintendo users, there is, unfortunately, no news of a release date. However, fingers crossed for a future implementation.
El Paso, Elsewhere Is Branching to PlayStation 5

As mentioned earlier, Nighthawk Interactive and Strange Scaffold have announced that El Paso Elsewhere will release on PS5 on September 6. Building on the plaudits with a Very Positive overall rating on Steam, with 978 user reviews and a 4.6/5 overall rating on Xbox, they decided to implement El Paso, Elsewhere as its first PlayStation release.
In the words of Strange Scaffold studio head Xalavier Nelson Jr, he stated: “El Paso, Elsewhere will be Strange Scaffold’s first-ever PlayStation release, and I couldn’t ask for a better introduction to our studio’s sustainable production principles, unapologetic style, and player-first attitude. To our wonderful partners at Nighthawk Interactive and the PlayStation gamers who will soon embark on our most ambitious journey yet, I can only say the same thing that James Savage soulfully speaks directly to the player in the closing moments of the game: Thanks for believing.”
Pre-orders of the El Paso, Elsewhere on PS5 are also available now at £27.69/$29.99.

Everything to Know About El Paso, Elsewhere

Inspired by titles like Max Payne and Silent Hill, El Paso, Elsewhere pays homage to classic third-person shooters and horror games with a blend of engaging narrative, atmospheric environments, and innovative gameplay mechanics. In the game, you will assume the role of James Savage, a vampire hunter and recovering addict, to try and stop his vampire ex Draculae from bringing about the end of the world via an ancient vampiric ritual beneath a motel in his home town of El Paso Texas.
The story follows Max Payne’s style of conveying primarily through James’ neo-noir monologues between floors or levels as he contemplates what is happening, why he is on a murderous rampage, and what this means for the woman he once loved. Besides the plot, the combat mechanics in El Paso, Elsewhere also resembles Max Payne as John will scamper around while using a variety of guns to stop monsters from taking a bite out of him, all to a hip-hop horror-infused soundtrack.
In addition, the game features diverse and hauntingly beautiful environments, each meticulously designed to enhance the horror and storytelling aspects. For example, the game includes claustrophobic interiors to bizarre, outside landscapes, with the settings playing a crucial role in the game’s overall impact.
If there was one criticism of the game, it is its enemies. For instance, after you get the basics down, the enemies all have basic attack patterns as they either charge at you or just move around shooting a projectile. However, El Paso, Elsewhere is foremost a love story game, and its combat is secondary, meaning you can expect exceptional stylised cinematography and story with a few rounds of gun battles added in between.
Parting Notes
With all things considered, El Paso, Elsewhere PS5 release will allow players on the platform to experience the action-packed shooter and psychological horror it brings and understand why it is a standout title in both the shooter and horror genre in 2023.
