The Game Awards are all about games that peaked on the charts during that year, all but one category. The Most Anticipated Game is a category for games releasing soon, and this year, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth took the prize. That places some heavy expectations on the game to be outclassed, but before that, you need to know about the Final Fantasy VII Rebirth release date. Today, we’ll be discussing the game’s release date and other related rumours we’ve heard until now.

What Is the Official Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Release Date?
Good news for everyone anxiously waiting for the new Final Fantasy VII game, as its release date is not far away now. We’ve finally received a fixed Final Fantasy VII Rebirth release date, which is February 29, 2024. That means it will be released by the end of next month for all PlayStation 5 players.

While the game’s previous versions are now available on a plethora of platforms, including Android and PC, we should remember that each game originally started out as a PlayStation exclusive. We’ll talk more about its platforms and our thoughts for the future ahead. Regardless, as the game’s release date draws closer and closer, we’re bound to find out new information through official trailers and leaks as well.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth had started production before the release of its predecessor, Final Fantasy VII Remake. However, the game was not announced until June 2022. With the Final Fantasy VII Rebirth release date finally being confirmed by Square Enix themselves, players are eagerly looking forward to the continuation of the iconic 1997 game’s legacy. Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will be the last part of the trilogy consisting of the original version and the Remake before it.

What Do We Know About Final Fantasy VII Rebirth?
There’s a lot to unpack when we talk about Final Fantasy VII Rebirth aside from its release date. This includes its available platforms, map scaling in regards to the original, and gameplay. We will be going through these one by one to avoid confusion.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Platforms

Many of you might have already heard that the new Final Fantasy VII game, Rebirth, is going to be a PlayStation 5 exclusive, and you’ve heard correctly. Following the decades-old trend of Final Fantasy VII games, starting from the original 1997 version to the latest, Rebirth will only be released on the PlayStation 5. This is probably saddening to part of the community that uses other platforms, but it has always been like this on release.
However, we do speculate that in a few months after its release, Square Enix will look to release the game on other platforms as well. This was seen with both of the previous Final Fantasy VII, and we’re hoping it will continue as it is.

Map Scaling in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth
Knowing the Final Fantasy VII Rebirth release date was definitely important, but another piece of news comes regarding its map state. This might not be as impactful for players who haven’t played the previous editions, but Rebirth’s map will have a one-to-one scaling ratio compared to Final Fantasy VII’s (1997) map.
Even though the Final Fantasy VII Rebirth release date is two decades after the original, developers at Square Enix have found a way to incorporate the entire map state while keeping the game in an open-world setting. This shocked many players, who were pleasantly surprised that they wouldn’t have to play minimised versions of their favourite areas.
Aside from Midgar, an area of the map that was already covered in Final Fantasy VII Remake, the entirety of the map from the original has been covered in Rebirth, definitely an exciting revelation indeed.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Gameplay
Even though Remake and Rebirth are remakes of the original 1997 Final Fantasy VII, that doesn’t mean they let the graphics slide down the drain. With each latest version, developers made sure to match the graphics to the console they were releasing it on.
We got two glimpses of in-game gameplay since the initial announcement. The first was at the Summer Game Fest 2023, while the second was at the State Of Play Showcase in September. It focused on the main character, Cloud, walking around with his old gang in an open-world setting, discovering new experiences along the way. It also showcased some mini-games, which you will find at the GoldSaucer within the game.

Besides this, there’s one part in the teaser trailer that shows Cloud riding a Chocobo, which assures us that Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will be filled with content.
The Bottom Line

As the Final Fantasy VII Rebirth release date inches closer each day, players grow more and more eager to finally get their hands on ‘the Most Anticipated Game of 2023’. Heavy expectations lie on Square Enix to get this open-world RPG just right, but with so much experience under their belt already, we can rest assured they won’t disappoint in the slightest.
