All Apex Legends gamers recognise that ranked mode can work magic in a Battle Royale. For this very reason, Warzone 2.0 introduced the same mode not long ago. As everyone was waiting for Epic Games to make their move, they finally delivered the anticipated news: Fortnite Ranked Play will be going live soon. Even better, there will be distinct rankings for both the Battle Royale and Zero Build modes.

Does Fortnite Have Ranked Mode?
Yes – Fortnite Ranked play was launched on 16th May 2023. In line with this, whether you’re engaged in Battle Royale or Zero Build, you can amass points that will influence your rank. Playing in ranked mode for these game modes is optional, so you have the choice to toggle it on or off in the settings, as you please. As is the norm in other Battle Royale games, your adversaries in ranked matches will consist of players of a comparable rank.
There are a total of eight different ranks that you can level up as you collect points (We’ll explain how they’re calculated in a moment).
Here are all the ranks in Fortnite Ranked mode:
- Bronze
- Silver
- Gold
- Platinum
- Diamond
- Elite
- Champion
- Unreal
The five ranks between Bronze and Diamond will match each other. Elite and higher levels will play against each other. Once you have enough points to reach a higher rank, you will be matched with players from the higher rank who will challenge you.
Of course, these are what Epic Games says for now. We will see how well the released v24.40 update works in the coming days.

How Are Fortnite Ranked Points Calculated?
Previously, levels in Fortnite referred to account or Battle Pass levels. This wasn’t a measure of a player’s skill or performance, but rather how much time they spent playing the game. Now, the idea is for players of similar ranks to compete against each other.
Here’s how points will be tallied in Fortnite’s Ranked mode:
- The most significant factor is your finishing position in a match. If you secure a victory, you receive the maximum points.
- If you’re playing solo, your points will be based solely on your kills. If you’re part of a team, the cumulative number of kills by the entire team will impact the points you earn. Thus, even if you adopt an aggressive play style and are eliminated early, you’ll still garner points through your kill count.
- The rank of the other players you eliminate and the timing of these kills relative to the match’s end will also influence your score. Eliminations occurring closer to the end of a match will carry a higher value.
Fortnite’s Ranked mode will not be accessible across all game modes. For Battle Royale, Ranked matches will be available for Solo, Duos, and Squads. In contrast, for Zero Build, Ranked matches will only be playable in Duos. We expect to see the implementation of Ranked mode across all formats in the weeks ahead.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will There Be Any Season System for Fortnite Ranked?
Yes- Fortnite Ranked Play will follow its own seasonal system. As of May 16, 2023, Season Zero has started. The first season will continue until the end of Battle Royale Chapter 4 Season 3. With each new season of the Battle Pass, the Ranked season will also transition, maintaining this pattern henceforth. At the end of every season, the rankings will reset, marking a fresh start to the competition.
What Is Unreal Rank in Fortnite Ranked?
The highest level in Fortnite Ranked is currently represented by the Unreal rank. Once you’ve attained this level, you’ll maintain this rank until the commencement of a new season, regardless of any subsequent poor performances. The rankings of players who’ve achieved the Unreal rank can be tracked on the Leaderboard, visible to all. So, keep striving to climb those ranks.
How Will Ranked Matchmaking Work in Fortnite?
Ranked matchmaking in Fortnite works in two ways. If you’re engaging in the game solo, all your opponents will be players of a similar rank to you. However, in Duos or Squads mode, opponents are determined based on the average rank of the team, not just individual players. In such scenarios, you might be matched with players of either lower or higher ranks than you.
