10 Best Armor Sets
1. The Ares Armor
The Ares Armor set is only available in the New Game Plus, so you must have completed the main storyline. To get this armor, you need to complete the path quest “Surviving Fimbulwinter”. After that, head to Sindri’s house in the Realms Between Realms. The Ares Armor is a three-piece suit consisting of the Cuirass of Ares (Chest armor), the Gauntlets of Ares (Wrist armor), and War Belt of Ares (Waist armor).
The good thing about the Ares armor is that it focuses on your attack, defence, vitality, and luck. However, the highlight of this armor is that it increases the rate at which enemies drop health stones. Also, using health stones dropped by enemies increases your rage bar. Each piece of this armor has three enchantment sockets.
2. Surtr’s Scorched Armor
Surtr’s Scorched Armor is a heavily fortified armor so it can be said that this set prioritises defence over offence. To unlock this armor, players need to solve various combinations of the Muspelheim Crucible challenges.
In total, there are six trials that you must pass before you can receive the set. Beat the Survival challenge to obtain the Cuirass which comes with the “Preemptive Strike” perk. This perk gives Kratos increased attack damage when he interrupts enemy attacks. You’ll get the arm and the belt when you pass the Ring of Fire and Phantom Challenges respectively. Both pieces of armor come with the Aggressor’s Perk. This perk reduces damage to Kratos while increasing his stagger resistance.
3. The Steinbjorn Armor
The Steinbjorn armor is the reward for defeating the Slumbering Trolls in the Mystical Heirloom mission. Each piece of the armor is made from slumbering stones, dropped by each of the defeated trolls (There are three in total). The armor pieces are the Steinbjorn Plackart, Gauntlets, and Waist Guard.
The Plackart gives Kratos some health after taking significant damage. The gauntlets and waist guard combination gives you a moderate chance to stagger your opponents. You’ll also inflict up to 50 stun damage to your opponents when you take damage.
Before you can play the Mystical Heirloom mission, you must have full access to Midgard’s Lake of Nine area. Besides that, you need the Draupnir spear, the key Freya gave you to open the Forbidden Sands area of Alfheim, and you have beaten the “Song of the Sands” mission. The order in which you get this equipment doesn’t matter.
4. Nidavellir’s Finest Plackart
For starters, Nidavellir’s Finest Set is good armor for crushing enemies at the beginning of the game. It also consists of a waist guard, arm guards, and chest armor. You can get this armor after completing the mission, “In the Service of Asgard”. The armor boosts attributes like strength, defence, and vitality.
However, after multiple upgrades, the armor favours defence more than vitality. Nidavellir’s Finest Plackart also includes many nifty perks that improve your combat prowess. These are;
- Grants health when you stun-grab enemies.
- The arm guards and waist each reduces stun bar drain by 50% (With both guards on, it’s 100%).
5. Lunda’s Lost Cuirass
The Lunda’s Lost Cuirass is obtained by beating the mission, “The Mysterious Orb”. It consists of the cuirass, bracers, and belt, or chest, arm, and waist armors respectively. This set boosts players’ strength, defence, runic, and luck. But above all, Lunda’s Lost Cuirass is great because of its poison ability that lowers the power level of enemies. Of course, it comes with other perks including dealing higher damage to poisoned enemies.
6. The Dragon Scaled Set
Players can get the Dragon Scaled Set after reaching the Crater in Vanaheim, the land of Njord. To craft the set, you need to harvest resources from dragons, drakes, and deki. Players will be the first known character to build this armor because no one else has slain enough dragons to build one.
That’s bada##, more so as you need 22 Dragon teeth and a dragon claw to build only a cuirass, bracers, and waist guard. Combine all of these equipment together to get a boost in strength and defence. Besides, shield damage is increased by 25 and successful blocks and parries also inflict damage to the surrounding enemies.
7. Giptumadr’s Set
The Giptumadr’s Set can be crafted after completing the quest “Word of Fate”. It’s an armor so handsome, players are instantly blessed with increased strength, defence, runic, and luck. Like the other armors on this list, this one also comes with some perks. These are:
- Moderate chance to reduce a runic attack or relic cool down by 70% when you use it.
- Up to 20% chance that enemies will drop health stones when hit with a runic attack.
8. The Hunter’s Set
You need to find the Hunter’s Brand resource in the Vanaheim Crater before you can craft the Hunter’s Set. This set consists of the chest, arm, and waist armors. Like the Dragon-Scaled Set, the Hunter’s Set is made from the toughest beasts in the Crater. The armor boosts your strength, defence, and cooldown. Also, it comes with the following perks.
- Ranged attacks are granted boosts in damage for a short duration.
- The damage boost is capped at 20%.
9. Guiding Light Armor
You can obtain the Guiding Light Armor by beating the quest of the same name. If you remember the events of the first previous God of War, you’ll remember this armor as Tyr’s Lost Unity Armor. The gauntlets, breastplate, and waist armor grants tons of perks, including:
- Increase in strength, defence, and luck.
- Weapons receive increased attributes for strength, luck, and runic.
- Up to an 8% chance that runic attacks have a chance to deal a critical explosion.
10. Berserker Armor
This is the Berserker Armor, which you get after defeating all the Berserkers. They’re Svipdagr the Cold and the Sisters of Illska, Fraekni the Zealous, and Skjothendi the Unerring. The Berserker set boosts strength, defence, runic, vitality, cooldown, and luck.
The armor increases Kratos’ melee attacks for a short period. Melee attacks can also lead to soul explosions which reduces runic cooldown. Finally, blocking, parrying, and taking damage can also cause soul explosions and reduce the cooldown of relics.
