Despite a lukewarm response , Google Bard has been rapidly evolving. The AI platform now boasts an improved ability to analyse YouTube video content, Android Authority reports. It may be recalled that Google Bard has had a YouTube extension with ability to analyse YouTube videos since September. But now, the chatbot can now provide specific answers to questions about the content of the video.
The latest update brings a much-needed improvement, as the update in September only provided Bard with the capabilities to analyse YouTube videos but lacked depth in understanding the actual video content.
To rectify the problem, the company wrote on Google Bard’s updates page. “We’re taking the first steps in Bard’s ability to understand YouTube videos. For example, if you’re looking for videos on how to make olive oil cake, you can now also ask how many eggs the recipe in the first video requires. We’ve heard you want deeper engagement with YouTube videos. So we’re expanding the YouTube Extension to understand some video content so you can have a richer conversation with Bard about it.”

Google Bard Can Now Answer Questions Regarding YouTube Videos
In the latest Google Bard updates, the company will transform and improve Bard’s functionality by providing detailed analysis and answers to specific questions about YouTube videos. For instance, if a user is watching a cooking tutorial and asks how many eggs you need for the recipe shown in the video, Bard can accurately provide that information.

In addition, this minuscule level of detail isn’t limited to just cooking videos but extends to all genres, including DIY videos and travel vlogs. It is a massive improvement from the prior YouTube extension update, as it only provides specific videos. By listening to users’ feedback, Google Bard’s latest YouTube expansion can now answer detailed questions about your videos, such as accurately describing the place you want to travel in the videos.
Google Bard Can Now Watch YouTube Videos for You
As mentioned, this new Google Bard’s YouTube expansion update comes two weeks after YouTube began experimenting with new generative AI features, including an AI conversation tool that answers questions about YouTube content and a new feature that summarises topics in video comments.

While the initial expansion showcased Google Bard’s language models conversational tool to respond to questions from its massive information system leverage from YouTube and the web, it misses information and details. However, with the latest update, Google Bard can relay accurate notes to you without you even pressing play.
For example, in an experimental research by the Verge, the author mentioned that he opened America’s Test Kitchen’s recipe for an Espresso Martini on YouTube and typed some prompts and instructions on Google Bard. Then, the AI chatbox provided the complete list of ingredients and some step-by-step instructions.
In addition, he mentioned that Google Bard got all of the critical bits right in summing up the video: the ingredients and measurements are all accurate, and the instructions are correct. It even includes the first step of chilling a martini glass by filling it with ice and water. However, Google Bard did add an extra step of stating you should shake the drink for 30 seconds, which the video did not depict.

Limitations Still Exist within Google Bard’s Content Analysis
Therefore, it leaves us with the conclusion that there are still limitations within Google Bard’s content analysis. For example, the author on the Verge highlighted that this feature only exists as an opt-in Lab experience, and it takes a little work to get to the answer you’re looking for.
“When I asked for the full recipe from the video, Google Bard was unable to generate anything. But asking for step-by-step instructions on a subsequent prompt got me the whole recipe.” In addition, he highlighted that Google Bard’s new functions may not spell good to video publishers as the complete recipe of the Espresso Martini is already available on the publisher’s website and behind a paywall.
Thus, if Google Bard can just list out the complete video without users pressing play, watching ads and staying tuned to the end for the channel’s other recommended videos, it could affect content creators’ revenues and individuality in the videos.
