The anticipation for NBA 2K24 is reaching a fever pitch. With four editions already announced – Kobe Bryant, Black Mamba, WNBA, and the 25th Anniversary editions – It’s no wonder fans are clamouring to secure their pre-orders before the game’s release. The details of what’s included in each edition have certainly sparked excitement, but what’s got us intrigued is the prospect of NBA 2K24 cross-platform functionality, as teased in recent footage on the official NBA 2K YouTube channel.
The announcement of NBA 2K24 cross-play capability is an exciting development. However, it may prove less enticing for some due to the limited availability of cross-play servers. Nevertheless, featuring the legendary Kobe Bryant on its cover once more, NBA 2K24 hopes to compensate players for the restricted cross-play availability with an array of thrilling ‘Mamba Moments’, and more.

NBA 2K24 Cross-Platform Support

As the release date approaches, NBA 2K24 comes with cross-play and cross-platform functionality. While the game will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series XIS, and Xbox One, only a limited portion of these will support the NBA 2K24 cross-platform functionality.
While Take-Two is confident that they will bring innovative solutions to add more aspects of fun to the NBA 2K series, their approach parallels the recent developments of technology, leaving last-gen behind. NBA 2K24 will support cross-platform only in the new-gen devices, mainly PS5 and Xbox Series XIS. The excitement the new-gen console owners have will not affect the last-gen PS4 and Xbox One devices.
Their disappointment will be followed by PC gamers, too, as the Steam version will be a last-gen package still for a while. Comparing the new-gen devices to the last-gen devices, this did not strike us as a surprise. At the same time, we might expect an alignment for all-gen players regarding updates and innovations in the future.

NBA 2K24 Cross-Play Support
NBA 2K24 cross-play availability will be between PS5 and Xbox Series XIS servers, as announced by Take-Two. The official NBA 2K YouTube channel released the video, “CROSSPLAY IS HERE | NBA 2K24”. In the video, the announcement explicitly emphasises that the NBA 2K24 cross-platform will come only for new-gen devices.
Though better than nothing at this stage, the disappointment amongst some PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One owners might only cool off easily if they upgrade their systems with more compatibility. With the NBA 2K24 cross-play functionality, PlayStation 5 players will be able to compete against the new-gen devices of the Xbox series, namely Series X and Series S.
Players can sustain their in-game progress across these new-gen platforms if they wish to carry on their “Mamba Moments”, from one joystick to another. This way, their choice of the respective console will not affect their progress while expanding their freedom to choose amongst devices that support the game’s functionality.
