Battlefield 2042 Limited-Time Dark Protocol Event Features

With the release of the Dark Protocol Event on Tuesday, October 31st, 2023, players can expect to see the new Killswitch game mode. This game mode is similar to Capture the Flag mode, where teams of 12 will have to battle it out to gain control of AOS nodes located randomly somewhere on the map. Each time a team fully captures a node, they will receive a point, and a new node will spawn at a different location.
This event will last for two weeks, as mentioned, from October 31st to November 14th 2023. It is still unclear if the game mode will return after this time since it hasn’t been hinted at by DICE. But make sure to make the most of it while it’s here.
There will also be new limited-time skins players can receive by completing challenges throughout the Dark Protocol event. Some challenges will be related to the Killswitch game mode, while others will revolve around general gameplay. In the first week of the event, you can get your hands on the Sundance set “Yellowcake”, the “Sharp Sting” vehicle skin, and the “Clowned Ascension” weapon charm. For the second week, two weapon skins, the “Swift Trust” and “False Dichotomy”, will be available for all players.
About the Killswitch Game Mode

The Killswitch game mode is a 12v12 mode where you will need to capture objectives (AOS nodes) that spawn throughout the match. DICE has removed the point reset feature where if you lose control of the node, your progress will reset, meaning you can always make a comeback, regardless of how long the enemy team has controlled the node for. Remember that only one AOS node is active at a time, so focus on it before planning ahead.
The unique part about the Killswitch game mode is the addition of AI-controlled bots that can aid one of the teams. The AI bots are called Geists and will help the team that has control of the Forge, a structure that spawns synthetic bots called Geists. These bots will fight at the side of the team that’s able to gain and maintain control of the Forge.
The Killswitch game mode can be played on four different maps: Redacted, Hourglass, Manifest, and Spearhead. It will feature teams of 12 players on each side, so that is bound to make things interesting. Add on top of that the additional Geist support, and you’ve got multiple objectives to take care of.

Utilizing the Forge to Your Benefit

If you’re lurking near the objective in the Killswitch game mode but can’t see enemies nearby, chances are they’re going for control of the Forge. As we mentioned before, the Forge produces Geists, which are AI-controlled hunters who will play for your side if you have control of the Forge. The team that captures the Forge will have a strategic advantage, as they can use these waves of AI Geists to overwhelm and distract the enemy team in order to capture other objectives.
This makes planning an essential part of the Killswitch game mode since you need to get the AOS node for points, but giving up control of the Forge could mean a whole game where you’re outnumbered. Having Geists on your side can be extremely helpful since they’re disposable bodies. Bait out your enemies by using these cyborg hunters, only for them to get taken out by your team, hiding in the shadows.

Summing Up
The introduction of Geists is definitely a new concept to FPS games in general, and DICE has definitely outdone itself with it. While we are yet to see how it plays out in real-time, players are hyped to learn more about the difficulty level of these AI-controlled bots as well as the strategic advantages they will be able to provide them. So band your team together and get ready as the update drops soon.
