Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, the action-adventure sequel to Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, developed by Respawn Entertainment and published by Electronic Arts, is finally coming to last-gen consoles, aka PS4 and Xbox One, on September 17.
As announced a year ago, the game will feature “a variety of optimisations aimed at maximising the hardware capabilities of the consoles”, as the company would like to avoid similar hardware issues and critics they faced when they first released the game on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
For context, many critics claimed that EA released Star Wars Jedi: Survivor a year too early as players faced many optimisation issues, which Respawn patched in the following patches. In addition, the 140+GB requirement for the game has fans doubting whether last-gen consoles can run the game smoothly, and we will get the answer soon.
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor PS4 and Xbox One Price and Pre-Order Bonuses

According to EA, they have set Star Wars Jedi: Survivor’s PS4 and Xbox One prices at $49.99. Players who pre-ordered the game will also receive bonuses such as free cosmetic items, including the Hermit Cosmetic (inspired by Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi), Hermit Lightsaber Set, and Combustion Blaster Set.
Besides last-gen consoles, PC players will receive an update in the coming weeks. The update mentioned: “It will bring enhancements to the game’s technical performance, controls and more, plus a variety of quality-of-life improvements”, addressing the game’s technical issues like poor frame rates that averaged 35 frames per second and sometimes dipping as low as 15-20 frames in cutscenes.
As a side note, Respawn Entertainment and EA have confirmed that the trilogy of the Star Wars Jedi series is in the works, but considering that Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is only a year old, we may be waiting for the good portion of three to four years.

Everything to Know About Star Wars Jedi: Survivor
Story and Plot
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor picks up where Jedi: Fallen Order left off, continuing the story of Cal Kestis as he matures in the Force and evades the relentless pursuit of the Empire. The narrative delves deeper into his journey, challenges and the allies he meets along the way.
For instance, the game introduces new and returning allies, such as Cere Junda and Greez Dritus, who will aid Cal on his journey and new enemies, including advanced Imperial forces and formidable creatures, each requiring unique strategies to defeat.
Besides the main plot, Cal will travel to new and diverse planets with unique environments, cultures, and challenges. These planets offer rich narratives and opportunities for exploration, puzzle-solving, and combat.
Lastly, as Cal continues to explore and deepen his connection to the Force, the game delves into the mysteries of the Jedi and the Sith, offering new insights and abilities that Cal can harness in his quest.
Gameplay Features
Building on its predecessor, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor introduces refined combat mechanics, new Force abilities, and expanded lightsaber combat. For example, players can customise Cal’s appearance, lightsaber, and skills more extensively than in the previous game, including new outfits, lightsaber components, and skill trees for a more personalised playstyle.
In addition, the game emphasises exploration across diverse and richly detailed planets filled with secrets, puzzles, and hidden areas that reward exploration and problem-solving. The game’s Metroidvania-style level design encourages players to revisit areas with new abilities to uncover all the secrets.
Last but not least, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor introduces an ability to locate and explore forgotten Jedi Meditation Chambers scattered across the Galaxy. Inspired by Zelda’s Breath of the Wild’s Shrines, these trials will utilise Cal’s knowledge of the Force to complete puzzles and challenges and may reward you with crucial perks or skill points to invest in.
Parting Notes

Despite the rocky start, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is a must-play title for fans of the Star Wars franchise and action-adventure games, as the game promises an engaging story, solid gameplay mechanics, and a faithful representation of the Star Wars universe.
As to whether the game will maintain its high-end graphics on last-gen consoles, we expect the developers will likely sacrifice the high resolution and framerate that newer consoles boast, opting to maximise performance to deliver a smooth performance. If they fail to do so, fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me.
