Building on the success of Summer Game Fest 2023 despite controversial criticism relating to gender diversity, Summer Game Fest organiser Geoff Keighley has taken to its official X account and announced the date and time of one of the top gaming events of the year.
Summer Game Fest began as an online replacement for E3 during the COVID-19 pandemic, as game journalist Keighley wanted to bring together gamers, developers, and industry professionals, celebrating video games through a series of digital showcases, events, and announcements.
His ideals were a massive success as Summer Game Fest became a highly anticipated event in the gaming calendar, drawing attention from industry insiders and gaming enthusiasts alike. Moreover, after the conclusion of a record-breaking 2023, Keighley immediately confirmed that Summer Game Fest will return in June 2024 with a live showcase, with full details only announced today.

Summer Game Fest 2024 Date, Time, Live Stream and Tickets
As mentioned, the official Summer Game Fest account confirmed that this year’s show will be on Friday, June 7, at 2 PM PT, 5 PM ET / 9 PM GMT. The annual cavalcade of trailers AND demos will kick off with a live showcase on June 7 At the YouTube Theater in LA’s Hollywood Park, as massive companies like Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo are expected to appear at the event with further details and updates of their upcoming games.

For members hoping to attend the event, tickets will go on sale on May 7 at Ticketmaster, while people online could tune in to the event on Steam, TikTok, Twitch, Twitter, and YouTube. The estimated duration for the event is around two hours, but as there are plenty in the pipeline, Keighley promised us that we’ll get “new video game announcements, first looks, and trailers.”
In addition, following Summer Game Fest, there will be a Day of the Devs partner showcase to “spotlight the ever-growing independent game community”, as it will feature over a dozen games from a diverse set of developers to “celebrate the creativity, diversity, and magic of video games.” There will also be other live streams and events during Summer Game Fest, such as Summer Game Fest Play Days, an invite-only event for folks to go hands-on with upcoming games from June 8-10.
What Games to Expect in Summer Game Fest 2024?
2024 definitely has felt calmer and more peaceful year than 2023. However, it could just be the calm before the storm as Summer Game Fest 2023 broke records with gameplay reveal of Alan Wake 2 and Mortal Kombat 1, as well as early looks at now-popular games like Palworld, Lies of P, Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon, Cyberpunk 2077’s expansion Phantom Liberty, Dragon’s Dogma 2, NARUTO X BORUTO Ultimate Ninja STORM, Star Wars Outlaws, and much more.
As for this year’s headliners, we could only assume and pray to our wishful-thinking list that GTA VI, Pokemon Legends: Z-A and Wuthering Waves will feature in Summer Game Fest 2024. For realistic expectations, we could see new Stalker 2 and Frostpunk 2 gameplay trailers as their release date inches closer and closer.
Will Summer Game Fest 2024 Address the Diversity Controversy of 2023?
After the cancellation of E3 during the height of the coronavirus pandemic, Summer Game Fest quickly assumed its place and continues to evolve and grow, cementing its position as a premier destination for all things gaming during the summer season. However, there was a spark of controversy last year when many fans and prominent media figures took to social media to condemn that the opening event broadcast failed to feature a single woman on stage during its two-hour runtime.
For example, Cecilia D’Anastasio, a Bloomberg reporter and recipient of multiple awards honouring her coverage of sexual harassment at Riot Games and other influential investigative journalism efforts centred on the gaming industry, took to Twitter to express her surprise at the fact that Summer Game Fest 2023 featured “not a single woman on stage” across its two-hour runtime.
While Keighley promptly responded in an interview with CBC, he also stated he wanted to present an “authentic” picture of the developers making the games featured on the show. His response only caused further drawbacks when research shows that almost 30% or more women are responsible for developing the game. Thus, will we see Summer Game Fest address the issue of diversity? Comment your answers on https://www.facebook.com/player.me.media/ and let us know which game will surprise you at the event.
