Ghostrunner 2 is a proper sequel to the first game that builds on everything that players loved about the title. You’re a cyber ninja who’s a master of the shadows and takes your enemies by surprise. We loved it for a couple of reasons, such as:
- The player progression system has been overhauled.
- A deep lore and revamped dialogue system await.
- Immerse yourself deeper into the game with a mighty soundtrack, courtesy of David Deluxe.
- It features an interactive environment with exploding barrels and destructible walls.
Naturally, there are many abilities in the game that you can try out, but they’re not of the same quality. Only next-gen console owners will be able to play it. Some abilities are so powerful that they only last for a few seconds. Do you want to gain an edge in-game? Then dive into this list of the best in-game abilities. That said, Ghostrunner 2 might not be released for the Xbox One and PS4.

Execute High-Octane Kills with the 5 Best Ultimate Abilities in Ghostrunner 2
These powers are the most destructive in Ghostrunner 2, and sure enough, they take time to unlock. After you’ve used them for a short period, you’ll have to kill opponents to recharge them. Of course, these are the Ultimate Abilities, of which there are only five in the game. We’ve used them all and then ranked them based on their effectiveness in combat.
However, unlocking these powers is tricky because you’ll have to explore every hidden path in-game for Memory Shards. Memory Shards are purple chips that let Jack equip better powers. Moving on, we’ll start with the best abilities and end the article with the worst; Have a look at them below.
#1: Flux
Flux is an overpowered Ultimate Ability in Ghostrunner 2 that can cut down waves of enemies in moments. Naturally, it’s overpowered and not that easy to fully unlock its true potential; Not without the Ultimate Booster 3. Level 1 of this ability only charges a beam of laser that can be fired in one direction. However, upgrading it to level 3 increases the Flux’s duration and removes its charging time. So, you can slaughter enemies as soon as you’re ready.
Due to the nature of the game, surviving onslaughts from enemies is the norm. However, Flux makes quick work of them all since it’s not a situational ability. Rather, you can use it anywhere, anytime. Just make sure there are enough enemies around before using it because the reload time for this Ultimate Ability is long. At the end of the game, you’ll start feeling like Iron Man. Flux is a useful ability from the start of the game to its conclusion.
#2: Blink
Blink also has three levels like Flux, which are:
- Level 1: Lock onto two enemies and kill them while dashing in between them.
- Level 2: You can use Blink again to return to your original position after killing two enemies. That is, you’ll be in the perfect position to replan your moves, but this window is only open for a few seconds.
- Level 3: Blink now locks onto three targets and dashes in between them to eliminate all three instantly.
Many gamers are ranking it as one of the worst abilities in the game, but that’s because it’s a situational skill. So, you can say most players don’t know how to use it. We loved using Blink on the flying enemies later in the game because they posed the most threat. Likewise, you can use the ability to escape dire situations where death is inevitable. Ninja builds in Cyberpunk 2077 offer similar powers.
Imagine Jack falling to his death, and just before that’s a reality, you’ve picked two targets to instantly gut. It’s only that this time; Don’t teleport back to your original position. So, it has defensive and offensive value. Alternating between Blink and Flux will have you clearing swathes full of enemies in mere seconds.
#3: Overlord
Overlord is a personal favourite of ours because it essentially allows you to mind-control enemies. In this game, you’ll have to fight through many enemies in arenas. So, having an ally in combat is key to surviving the sheer violence you’ll be exposed to. At the first level, you’ll be able to control one foe, who will then fight for you. Level 2, on the other hand, detonates any foe that you control, dealing splash damage to nearby enemies. Finally, the third level of Overlord lets you control two opponents at a time.
Some members of our team at Player.com loathe this ability because the controlled AIs are never reliable. At least not like having a second player around. Still, the game uses a one-hit kill system, so even weak AIs are effective. Jack is also not exempt from the one-hit kill system, so make sure you dodge all attacks. That said, this is a single-player title, so Overlord is the closest you’re getting to a local, multiplayer experience in Ghostrunner 2. In short, don’t expect a split-screen mode.
#4: Sensory Overdrive
Sensory Overdrive is the equivalent of Bullet Time, a phenomenon where time slows down for Jack. Ghostrunner 2’s protagonist won’t slow down, but his foes will freeze in time, leaving them open to an onslaught of attacks. Nevertheless, that’s only the first level of Sensory Overdrive. Other levels offer capabilities such as:
- Level 2: This level increases the duration of Sensory Overdrive.
- Level 3: Jack can now grapple towards an enemy after he dashes to launch an attack. Time will also be slowed down.
In a world where Jack mostly relies on parkour to get around, speed is a telltale sign of success. Of course, many players won’t invest too much in this Ultimate Ability because Jack’s normal focus mode does the same thing. It’s only that his focus mode is shorter, though he can use it more frequently. Still, whenever you’re swarmed by opponents, this is the best ability to use.
#5: Motoric Overheat
Motoric Overheat isn’t the most potent at level 1, but at level 3, it shines. To start with, this power increases a player’s capabilities, boosting Jack’s speed, jumping, and dodging abilities. At level 2, this Ultimate Ability increases Jack’s rate of regenerating energy. The last level of Motoric Overheat makes you invulnerable to a single hit. To be frank, we only enjoyed using this ability after it was maxed out.
This is because the boost in speed is minuscule so, we didn’t appreciate it one bit. Besides, Jack is already blazing fast! If Ghostrunner 2 didn’t use a one-hit kill system, Motoric Overheat would be more useful since it would boost Jack’s punching power. Now, though, there’s no damage bar for you to eat through. Hopefully, the third game will tweak the damage system, but then it might not be a proper sequel. Ultimately, it won’t be the last of the games that flop.
Our Final Say: You Can Only Equip One Ultimate Ability at a Time
An ideal alternative to Ghostrunner 2 is Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, which you can read more about here. Moving forward, the drawback to having five Ultimate Abilities is that Jack only uses one at a time. These powers are also capped at level 1, so you need Ultimate Booster 1 and Ultimate Booster 2 to unlock the effects of levels 2 and 3. Flux is the best ability in the game, especially because of its long attack range. Just aim the laser from your right to your left, or vice versa, to clear the enemies in your path. Ghostrunner is available on Steam.
