PlayStation are one of the platforms that provide gaming excitement every month with the introduction of new games for their PS Plus subscribers. But this time, alongside the anticipated introduction of new games for December, there’s bad news — there are 9 games leaving PS Plus Extra in January 2024. Yet, it’s not uncommon. Sony consistently refreshes this catalogue, introducing and removing titles on a monthly basis. In contrast to the complimentary monthly games accessible to all PS Plus subscribers, once games exit the service, users lose access to them. Sony have now officially announced that 9 additional games are scheduled to depart from PS Plus Extra and Premium in January 2024.
The 9 Games Leaving PS Plus Extra in January 2024
Sony have revised the “Last Chance to Play” section on the PlayStation Store, updating the roster of games leaving PS Plus Extra tier next month. There were some interesting games, so PS Plus Extra members, be sure to check them out.
1. Devil May Cry 5
2. Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition
3. It Takes Two
4. Jett: The Far Shore
5. The Missing: J.J. Macfield and the Island of Memories
6. Mitsurugi Kamui Hikae
7. Omno
8. Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire – Ultimate Edition

Among the notable departures from PS Plus Extra in the upcoming month, It Takes Two and Devil May Cry 5 stand out, having garnered significant acclaim upon their release. Devil May Cry 5 won back trophies in the Japan Game Awards, The Game Awards and Golden Joystick Awards in the same year it was released in 2019. On the other hand, It Takes Two, in particular, secured the title of the best game at The Game Awards in 2021. Consequently, it appears that PS Plus Extra users will bid farewell to some outstanding games come January 2024.

Looking at the Good News in December 2023
Although the above may be sad news for PS Plus Extra members who are enthusiasts of the games leaving PS Plus Extra, it’s not all bad news. Alongside the exiting of games is the arrival of new games which will be announced on December 13, just a few days before their release on December 19.
While aligning with Sony’s usual routine, this announcement holds particular significance as it marks the final one for the year. To clarify, the PS Plus Extra and Premium games unveiled for December 2023 will conclude the entire year for the service and establish the atmosphere for the upcoming year. The choice of games holds importance; if they are perceived as too modest, it might dampen anticipation, whereas if they are deemed excessively substantial, it could create unrealistic expectations for the upcoming year.
