The expected front-runners snagged the top awards at The Game Awards 2023. Still, it was particularly heartening to see indie games like Hi-Fi Rush, Cocoon, Tchia, and Sea of Stars getting well-deserved recognition. Triple-A titles like Street Fighter 6, Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, and Forza Motorsport also clinched awards in their respective categories.
The night did have its letdowns, with Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 being the standout. Despite eight nominations, it didn’t secure a single award, sparking criticism from PS5 fans who felt the awards for BG3 were undeserved.
A special mention goes to Sam Lake for his remarkable work on Alan Wake 2, which was aptly celebrated with three awards. The live performance of the Herald of Darkness musical was undoubtedly one of the evening’s most memorable highlights.
Reflecting on The Game Awards 2023 winners reinforces our belief that 2023 might just be the best year in gaming yet. While 2024 has big shoes to fill, it brings us closer to the much-anticipated GTA VI.
