Samsung has unveiled its long-awaited Samsung Galaxy S24, S24+ and S24 Ultra in its Galaxy Unpacked event with a handful of new AI-powered capabilities. The Samsung Galaxy S24 series is being touted as the Korean tech giant’s first on-device AI smartphone, meaning users can activate certain AI features without an internet connection. It appears to be an evolution from earlier on-device machine learning algorithms smartphone makers including Apple have deployed.
The new Galaxy AI enables accessible communication with intelligent text and call translation, maximising creative freedom with Galaxy’s ProVisual Engine and setting a new standard in search that will transform the way Galaxy users explore the world.
As per the words of TM Roh, President and Head of Mobile eXperience (MX) Business at Samsung Electronics: “The Galaxy S24 series transforms our connection with the world and ignites the next decade of mobile innovation. Galaxy AI builds on our innovation heritage and deep understanding of how people use their phones. We’re excited to see how our users around the globe empower their everyday lives with Galaxy AI to open up new possibilities.”
4 AI Features to Know About the Samsung Galaxy S24 Series
1) Circle to Search
If you are a phone connoisseur, you may have heard of this Circle to Search function, as it is a Google service, and the tech giant has adopted it into its Samsung Galaxy S24 series to give users a brand new experience. For Circle to Search, simply press the bottom centre of the screen, which displays the Google logo and search bar, letting you draw a ring around everything on your display. Once you have decided, a window will appear showcasing your selections and Google Search Generative Experience (SGE) results.
However, while image matches, shopping, text, website, and other relevant listings that SGE recommend will appear, DRMed content or things protected from screenshots, like your banking app, are off-limits.
In short, the Samsung Galaxy S24 series Circle to Search is like image search via Google or Lens, except it saves you from the hassle of opening another app and taking screenshots. For example, whether you see a beautiful sight in the background of a friend’s social media post or find an intriguing and fun fact on YouTube, you can instantly do a precise search to learn more without leaving the app.
2) Live Translator and Interpreter
Besides its Circle to Search function, the Samsung Galaxy S24 series has drawn inspiration from Google’s Pixel phone with its new Live Translator feature, as the interface resembles the Pixel 6 phone with its two text input fields. For example, like Google, Samsung also has input fields at the top to select the target language, allowing the system to automatically detect the language in use.
Furthermore, the translation feature basically acts as an interpreter during calls through the native dialer app. For instance, when you dialled a number and enabled the “Live Translate” option, Samsung’s AI read out a short disclaimer to the receiver that you were using a computerised system for translation. Thus, when you say Hello to a Spanish receiver, you will hear a disembodied voice saying Hola.
Moreover, Interpreter lets you instantly translate live conversations in a split-screen view, so people facing each other can transcribe and read what the other person is saying. Most importantly, it also works without cellular data or WiFi, with no third-party apps required, and on-device AI keeps conversations completely private.
3) Chat, Note and Transcript Assist
As the Notes app is still one of Samsung’s best successes, the Samsung Galaxy S24 series will now add features such as creating templates to optimise your notes with AI-generated summaries, pre-built formats, and cover pages to make it easier to read with quick previews.
For example, using AI, you can quickly reformat large blocks of text into easy-to-read headings, paragraphs, and bullet points. You can also swipe sideways to see different themes with different colours and fonts.
In addition, the Samsung Galaxy S24 phones will borrow another feature from the Pixel ecosystem and use Speech-to-Text software to transcribe, summarise, and translate recordings. As for Messages and other apps, its Chat Assist feature helps you perfect the tone of your conversations so you communicate as you intended, whether it’s a polite message to a co-worker or a short, memorable text to caption a social media photo.

4) ProVisual Engine and Galaxy AI editing tools
Lastly, the Samsung Galaxy S24 phone series has made stark improvements from the shaky and pixelated images of the past. With its ProVisual Engine consisting of a comprehensive suite of AI-powered tools, users can finally transform image capture capabilities to maximise creative freedom at every step, from setting up your capture to sharing it on their social networks.
How so? With its Innovative Galaxy AI editing tools, users can do simple editing such as deletion, reorganisation, and remastering. To make optimisation simpler and more efficient, Edit Suggestion uses Galaxy AI to suggest optimisations that perfectly fit each photo. Moreover, to give users even more creative control and freedom, Generative Edit can fill in part of an image’s background with generative AI. The generative AI will also improve and adjust distorted pictures with scenes that blend perfectly with the original position.
Additionally, a watermark appears on the image and metadata whenever Galaxy S24 uses generated AI to enhance the image. As for slowing down an action-packed video, the new Instant Slow Motion feature generates additional pictures based on your movement, slowly slowing down action-packed moments to reveal more detail.

Final Verdict
In conclusion, the Samsung Galaxy S24 has many new exciting AI features that would improve our daily routine. However, as AI gradually envelops our everyday lives, the features gradually take hold over appearance.
For example, the Samsung Galaxy S24 and iPhone 15 may have overemphasised upgrading the software and including AI features as the phone’s design has stayed the same for a long while. While it is not a bad thing, it just proves Sundar Pichai, the CEO of Alphabet, saying that “AI will have a more profound impact on humanity than fire, electricity and the Internet”.
