Cyberpunk 2077 Sequel Remains a Conceptual Design

Cyberpunk 2077 Sequel Development

With Cyberpunk 2077 disastrous development run, it is natural for players to be curious about how the development for the sequel is coming along. In a recent CD Projekt Red Investor Day event, CD Projekt chief creative officer Adam Badowski stated that the sequel, code name Project Orion, is currently in the conceptual design stage. Moreover, he also confirmed that the sequel is being designed by a team of veteran developers responsible for fine-tuning Cyberpunk 2077 and designing Phantom Liberty DLC. This means that the development for the sequel is still in the planning stages, and once this is complete, the actual development for the game will start. 

Badowski went on to further state that CD Projekt Red’s Vancouver and Boston teams will be at the forefront of developing Project Orion, and some people from CD Projekt Red’s home base in Poland will also contribute to the development of the sequel. CD Projekt Red CFO Piotr Nielubowicz previously mentioned that the development for the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel will need a big team of 350-500 developers working on the game.

At the time of writing, nothing is known about the sequel, its story, or anything else. Moreover, CD Projekt has also not provided any release window, either. That said, don’t expect the game to come out anytime soon, especially when it is only in its conceptual phase of development. For comparison, Cyberpunk 2077 was first announced in May 2012 and was released in 2020, and we all know in what state the game was in on its initial launch.
