In The Quarry, your decisions can kill or save a bunch of people. Are some of them worth saving more than others? Read on to find out!

In the horror game The Quarry, players get to decide the fate of a group of camp counsellors and some other characters. Over ten chapters, and a prologue, you take control over nine different characters.
Some of them get more screen time than others, maybe deservedly so. Others, like Max, you don’t get to play often or for a long time. In the case of Max, that’s not really a big loss as his girlfriend Laura is a far more interesting character.
In this article, we’ll look at the five best playable characters in The Quarry.
The Cast of The Quarry
There are obviously more than just five characters in this game. Before we get to the five best ones, let’s have a look at the whole cast.
- The two “Missing” camp counsellors Max and Laura never turned up at the summer camp. The players get to see what happened to them.
- The main cast consists of the seven camp counsellors that are forced to stay at the camp one more night. Their names are Abigail, Dylan, Emma, Jacob, Kaitlyn, Ryan, and Nick.
- Then there’s the Hackett family the player runs into regularly: Bobby, Caleb, Chris, Constance, Kaylee, Travis and Jedediah.
- Between each chapter, players meet the mysterious Eliza, who is related to Silas, who plays a rather important part in the whole story.
Five Best Characters in The Quarry
5. Ryan

The first time you meet Ryan, he’s listening to something, basically ignoring you. He is a more restrained, quiet character. He is friends with Chris Hackett, which later on makes a decision he has to make quite difficult.
Ryan is the one you’d trust to make morally sound decisions. He’s the one you’d turn to if you need some good advice, especially if it’s about something supernatural.
Players spend a lot of time playing Ryan, and he has some important decisions to make. His development is one of the most interesting ones.
4. Kaitlyn

Out of all the characters, Kaitlyn’s the one you want to trust with a gun. She knows how to handle it and can get herself out of sticky situations.
Her sometimes brutal honesty, her insults, and her love for causing drama may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but she keeps the story rolling.
Kaitlyn comes up with some possible solutions to the group’s problems. Of course, her solutions may not always lead to the desired outcome!
She reminds many a little of Tess from The Last of Us, even though they look nothing like each other. The difference is that Kaitlyn isn’t likely to sacrifice herself for the sake of others, which is obvious in certain scenes.
3. Dylan

Dylan first comes across as your typical jokester character, but there’s much more to him. Players see a different side of Dylan later in the game.
He admits to simply hiding his true “Dylan” character because people liked how funny he was when he arrived at camp. His funny behaviour, however, was only a show because he was over-compensating for not actually being a “Cool” guy.
Dylan grows on you, especially when you learn more about his true character and discover who he has a crush on.
Dylan is part of some major turning points in the game and doesn’t back out when things get tough.
2. Abigail

Abby is a cute, very likeable character. She’s the quiet sort and loves drawing everything around her. While she’s not older than the other counsellors, she comes across as more mature and serious.
Abby has a crush on Nick, who also seems to quite like her. There’s a cute scene in the woods where players have a chance to play matchmaker. Her attraction to Nick makes a decision in the first half of the game even harder.
Abby isn’t as loud or glamorous as Emma, nor is she skilled in combat like Kaitlyn, but there’s something about her that just makes people love her.
1. Laura

Laura is the most important character in the game. The game starts with her, and she is one of the few characters that can’t get killed until very late in the game.
Laura’s dream is to become a vet, and she’s studied hard to get a place at the college of her dreams. She and Max wanted to have a great time as counsellors at the summer camp before starting college. Of course, it all went downhill.
Laura is so important because she’s the one who reveals the truth behind everything that happened to the player. She’s also pretty cool and the kind of girl who saves the day.
