With Pokemon GO’s Festival of Lights event just around the corner, it’s time to talk about the new Gen 9 Pokemon that are being released with the event. Tadbulb and Bellibolt are making their introduction to Pokemon GO after being released in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. They’re the latest addition to the Pokemon GO roster of Gen 9 Pokemon, following the likes of Smoliv, Doliv, Aribovila and Greavard Houdstone, who were released earlier this month.

Pokemon GO Introduces Two New Gen 9 Monsters from Paldea Region
This year, Pokemon GO welcomed a ton of new Pokemon from the region of Paldea. The Paldean Adventure event allowed players to catch and play with several new Gen 9 Pokemon like Lechonk and Oinkologne. Now, in November, they’ve decided to add Tadbulb and Bellibolt to the Pokedex as well.
Both these Pokemon will be making their debut with the Festival of Lights event that will be available from 7th-12th November. However, that is not all in store for players in the Festival of Light event. After the commencement of this event, there will be a higher frequency of wild encounters with a total of 12 Pokemon. Some important names include Alolan Geodude and Shiny Morelull.
Trainers will also have a higher chance of encountering the new Gen 9 Pokemon starter, Tadbulb, in the wild as well. Tadbulb is a small amphibian-like Pokemon that has a glowing yellow head with a classic cartoon-like smile and a tadpole-like tail hanging below it. The bright yellow head should make it easy for trainers to identify this Gen 9 Pokemon, should they ever come across it in the wild.
Festival of Lights Event Features
The Festival of Lights event doesn’t just feature the debut of these Gen 9 Pokemon. Once the event starts, players will also get several buffs they can use to progress quickly.
Double Stardust and Candy
The event bonuses include double Stardust and Candy for hatching Pokemon, and any Incense that players use during the event will have its duration doubled as well.
This is a great time for players to stack up on some Stardust and Candy that they’ll need to evolve their Pokemon. The Incense also helps to attract rarer Pokemon in the wild, increasing your chances of bagging a Shiny Morelull if you’re lucky.
Timed-Research Event
Pokemon GO will also have a timed-research event during the Festival of Lights event. Players can participate in the Timed Research and complete the various tasks assigned to them to get their hands on event-exclusive avatar t-shirts and encounters with event-themed Pokemon.

PokeStop Showcases and a New Avatar Item
Scattered around the map, players can also find several PokeStop Showcases. These are scenarios where you can showcase your Litwick or Tadbulb if you’ve been able to acquire the new Gen 9 Pokemon yet.
Other than that, Pokemon GO has introduced a new permanent avatar item. It is an event-themed shirt that players can buy from the in-game store. This item will also be available after the event, so there’s no need to rush if you aren’t in favour of buying it yet.
Increased Pokemon Encounters
We mentioned before that there will be increased encounters with 12 Pokemon. These include:
- Pikachu
- Vulpix
- Ponyta
- Voltorb
- Chinchou
- Magnemite
- Mareep
- Slugma
- Electrike
- Litwick
If you’ve been looking for any of these Pokemon, now’s the time to go for them. With these, you’ll obviously have a chance at finding the new Gen 9 Pokemon, Tadbulb, so keep your eyes peeled for it as well.
There’s another category of Pokemon that will become more visible to trainers using Incense. The Pokemon who will appear more often are:
- Alolan Geodude
- Hisuian Voltorb
- Slugma
- Volbeat
- Illumise
- Blitzle
- Litwick
- Litleo
- Dedenne
- Morellul
- Tadbulb
You have the chance to encounter a Shiny version of any of these Pokemon, even the ones mentioned in the list above. Take full advantage of this event to maximise your Pokedex collection.
Final Thoughts
The slow and steady release of new Pokemon to Pokemon GO is truly exciting. With the release of all these Gen 9 Pokemon in Pokemon GO, players need to pick up their Pokeballs once more and go out in search of these new and rare Pokemon. Who’s going to find one first is yet to be seen, but whenever it is, it will definitely be worth it.
