Before we provide the details of the acts, let’s quickly remind you that the chapter names we’re about to share do not contain spoilers about the progression of the main story. So you can continue reading with ease.

How Many Acts in Diablo 4?
Diablo 4 will have a total of six acts. In addition to these chapters, there’s a prologue and an epilogue. To complete the main story, you will need to finish all of these acts in order. However, for the first time in the series, you can freely roam the open-world map if you wish. Blizzard has previously announced that there will be plenty of side quests and dungeons in the game.
Here are all the acts of Diablo 4 and their names:
- Prologue: Wandering
- Act I: A Cold and Iron Faith
- Act II: The Knife Twists Again
- Act III: The Making of Monsters
- Act IV: A Gathering Storm
- Act V: Secrets Bartered, Fates Sold
- Act VI: Dance of the Makers
- Epilogue: From the Wound Spilled
If you’re already familiar with the new game’s storyline, these names might allow you to make certain predictions. But, they don’t directly spoil the main storyline. This is excellent news, as Diablo 4 will be the first game in the series for many new players.
All of the acts (Unless there’s an unexpected surprise) will occur within an open world. We might have opportunities to venture into hell or heaven for brief quests. However, the confirmed names of these areas so far are: Fractured Peaks, Dry Steppes, Hawezar, Kehjistan, and Scosglen.

Story
Before pre-ordering Diablo 4, you might want a brief summary of the game’s story. Don’t worry – we’ve got you covered.
The main antagonist in the new Diablo is Lilith. She has various alternate names, some of which are quite cool: Daughter of Mephisto, Sister of Lucion, Lover of Inarius, Queen of Succubus, and many more. As you can gather, this majestic entity is an important demon. However, she has a particular characteristic that sets her apart.
For centuries, Lilith has been discontent with the ongoing war between the High Heavens and the Burning Hells. Seeking to escape this conflict, she, along with a group of angels and demons led by Inarius (A former angel), creates Sanctuary. Sanctuary is a familiar place – it’s where all Diablo games take place and where the human race exists.
The union of angels and demons, primarily Inarius and Lilith, results in the birth of the Nephalem. Over time, it becomes apparent that these beings will grow to be more powerful than either side. As a result, Inarius wishes to kill all the Nephalem and protect Sanctuary, avoiding the attention of both the High Heavens and the Burning Hells. Lilith, realising this plan, goes berserk.
Unable to kill Lilith because of his love for her, Inarius imprisons her in the Void. As depicted in the spectacular announcement video, Lilith escapes the Void after a long time and steps into Sanctuary. This is precisely where Diablo 4 will begin.
A small note: There are of course many details in the story of Diablo 4. However, writing them all would make this article much longer, so we’re just covering the essential information you need to know before starting the game. The game will effectively tell its story through its cinematics anyway.
Frequently Asked Questions
How Long Is Diablo 4 Story?
The main story of Diablo 4 will take approximately 35 hours. This duration, confirmed by the developers, seems excellent for telling a compelling story. Like all RPGs, you can extend this time by completing side quests. Plus, for the first time in the series, there’s an open-world map – so whether you progress in the campaign or roam freely clearing dungeons is entirely up to you.
How Many Acts Were in Diablo 3?
In Diablo 3, there were a total of four acts. The subsequent Reaper of Souls expansion pack adds the fifth part of the main story. This number might seem small compared to the fourth game, but Diablo 2 also had a total of four acts. The presence of six acts in D4 and the likelihood of this number increasing with possible expansion packs is excellent news for all of us. More Diablo equals more outstanding gaming moments.
What Is Max Level in Diablo 4?
The maximum level in Diablo 4 will be 100. Regardless of which class and character you play, the level hard lock currently appears to be set at 100. In the coming months, this lock could be lifted to deepen the end game. However, there’s no need to be too upset, as reaching level 100 will require an average of 150 hours of gameplay. That’s more than 500 hours with multiple classes – quite a sufficient amount of time.
