What Are Lightning Charges?
Lightning Charges are effects that are obtained by equipping certain equipment. To gain a charge, players must meet different conditions set by the gear. You need only one Lightning Charge to add one Lightning damage to your next Attack Roll. Naturally, it takes one Lightning Charge per turn, but having many charges at hand will make your damage more potent.
No other effects are present if you lose all of your Lightning damages. Stack up five or more Lightning Charges and you can unleash all of that power at once. The effect also deals 1d8 Lightning damage, and yes, the effects are automatic.
6 Gears Needed to Build a Lightning Build in Baldur’s Gate 3
There are many gears for building a Lightning build in Baldur’s Gate 3 and yes, these include shields, staffs, rings, and amulets. Together, you’ll stack up Lightning Charges faster to electrify your enemies. Sure, the list includes The Jolty Vest, which has a nifty feature called Countershock. These items will make you feel like one of the gods in Baldur’s Gate 3.
#1: The Jolty Vest | Armor
The Jolty Vest is sold by Brem in the Zhentarim Outpost after you Find the Missing Shipment in Baldur’s Gate 3. It’s also a Medium Armor that’s great against slashes and perfect for casting Spells. That said, The Jolty Vest is super fun to use because it accumulates charges. After the Armor is charged up, you can discharge the electricity to damage enemies; Though, you could also be hurt by your electricity.
#2: The Lifebringer | Helmet
The Lifebringer is a helmet in the game that provides a host of effects in combat that range from increasing your Saving Throws to buffing some of your attacks. However, the biggest feature of the Lifebringer is the Lifecharger, an ability that grants users three temporary hit points. The temporary hit points will vanish when you lose your Lightning Charges. You can buy the Lifebringer from Blurg in the Myconid Colony in the Underdark.

#3: The Speedy Lightfeet | Boots
The Speedy Lightfeet gives you three Lightning Charges when you Dash or make any fast movement during your turn. This boosts all of your Athletic Checks by one. It also functions as a Medium Armor, so it helps deflect blows away from you. You can obtain The Speedy Lightfeet from a Heavy Chest in a cellar behind the Blighted Village’s windmill.

#4: The Blast Pendant | Amulet
The Blast Pendant is an uncommon amulet with great Lightning effects for your Cantrips and Lightning-based Spells. This equipment is great because you don’t have to meet any requirements. All you have to do is exercise some patience for the pendant to charge up and then you can cast the Lightning Blast.

The Lightning Blast lets you focus your electricity as a bonus action that does Lightning damage that’s equal to your remaining Lightning Charges. Once you hit your enemy, your charges disappear until you gain them via patience or dashing if you’ve got The Speedy Lightfeet on.
#5: The Real Sparky Sparkswall | Shield
The Real Sparky Sparkswall is an average shield with a nifty ability, which is called a Lightning Aura. Once charged, it would consume three Lightning Charges to electrify enemies while halting them in their tracks. You can find this shield in a locked chest in Grymforge. To get there, either help or kill the Duergars for the Myconids.

#6: The Spellsparkler | Staff
The Spellsparkler is a Staff that functions as a hammer. You can club monsters and foes to death with it like the Undead Prisoner in Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown. With this equipped, you can gain two Lighting Charges every time you land a successful attack on an enemy. The most impressive part is that the effects stack per enemy, so keep hitting them with Spells and Cantrips.
#7: The Sparkswall | Ring
The Sparkswall is a simple weapon with basic, but necessary features. For one, the ring grants resistance to Lightning damage and total resistance to Electrocution. This weapon also lets you avoid being electrocuted by the Watersparkers. You’re lighting-proof. So, keep it on even when you’re casting lighting spells in pools of water.
Our Final Say: Steel Watcher Titans Are Weak Against Lightning in Baldur’s Gate 3
Certain enemies are weak against Lightning in Baldur’s Gate 3 and this includes Steel Watcher Titans. Other foes that are weak against this build are Arcane Turret, Hellfire Watcher, Cursed Kuo-Toa, and Cursed Kuo-Toa Chief. Other notable features that you’ll love to know are:
- Creatures Resistant to Lightning: The creatures resistant to Lighting are Air Elemental, Cambion, Daddy, Efrin, Gordis, Haarlep, Lumbar, Mummy, Nightdome, Oliver, Poltergeist, Rocky, Strange Ox, Tormented Soul, Vengeful Cambion, Vilmina, and Wraith.
- Creatures Immune to Lightning: The good news is that not many creatures are immune to Lightning. A few of the creatures that are immune to Lightning are Akabi, Ansur, Djinni, Flesh, Grym, Nautiloid, Shadow-Cursed Shambling, and Yafeu.
The list goes on and on, so be sure to have emergency weapons from other builds. This should be done to gain a chance against enemies that are immune to or resistant to Lightning. The other builds you can consider include Piercing, Bludgeoning, Slashing, Thunder, Acid, Poison, Fire, and Necrotic. We’ve always loved the Necrotic weapons and Spells because of how potent they’re on the battlefield.
After hundreds of playtimes, Radiant is the best Damage Type in Baldur’s Gate 3 due to its deadly effects against the undead and other forces of darkness. However, for the sake of convenience, Force is quite powerful because blunt force trauma will do your enemies in. On the flip side, Poison is one of the worst Damage Types that you can prioritise in Baldur’s Gate 3.
