Looking back to May 2023 in the years to come, it will be quite clear which two games will be at the forefront of our discussions. Firstly, we’ll be recalling Redfall by Arkane Studios, which sadly didn’t quite hit the mark. Secondly, we’ll reflect on Tears of the Kingdom, rightly considered one of the all-time greats. As soon as websites started sharing their reviews, everyone began wondering about the origin of such high scores. This game, not developed by a traditional game studio, can truly be seen as an experimental project.

What Kind of Game Is Humanity?
Describing Humanity, which isn’t available on Xbox consoles – at least for now – is a bit tricky. But if we start from the beginning, it may come into clearer focus. Humanity wasn’t developed by an ordinary game studio. Rather, it’s one of the experimental offerings from a Japanese-based interactive design studio. They’ve been working on various iterations of the game since 2020, with the final version launching on the May 16, 2023.
In Humanity, you play as a dog – specifically, a Shiba Inu. Explaining the premise is a bit of a challenge, but at its core, it’s a puzzle game. On beautifully designed maps, you guide groups of people following you from one point to another. The levels increase in difficulty, and before you know it, you find yourself immersed in multi-layered gameplay (Think along the lines of the Portal series).
What sets Humanity apart is its seamless blend of platforming and puzzle-solving. You’ll feel as though you’re playing a concoction of various games as you progress, which isn’t a bad thing at all. On the contrary, it provides a truly unique gameplay experience.

And there is more – you can play it with PSVR2 and PSVR too. However, it’s also purchasable on Steam and can be played on PC. Given the increasing trend of console exclusive games also being released on PC, this shouldn’t come as a surprise.
Is Humanity a Lemmings-Like Game?
Absolutely, in many ways, Humanity can be likened to Lemmings, which was released back in 1991. The original Lemmings, initially released for Amiga before being ported to various other platforms, was undoubtedly one of the most unique games of its time. Like in Humanity, you were directing a group of people (Lemmings) across different maps and working to get them to the exit. We’re talking about a game released 32 years ago, but it’s still well worth a play, even in its digital version.
