Since the introduction of Mythic skins as part of the Battle Pass, Overwatch 2 players have eagerly waited for the big reveal each season. As part of Season 7’s Battle Pass, Blizzard released a Mythic skin for Hanzo called Onryo Hanzo. Regardless, the skin was sub-par, according to the community, and had fans reeling. Let’s see what led to this major upset.

Reason Behind Disappointment for Onryo Hanzo Skin
The release of new Mythic skin is an exciting time for any game since these are usually top-tier rarity and signify another level of aesthetic for the hero. However, players were left both bewildered and angry when they saw the customisation options for the new Onryo Hanzo skin. This is primarily because, in comparison to older skins, Hanzo’s Mythic skin only has five customisable options.
Mythic skins in the past have always boasted around 11 customisations for the hero, ranging from their weapon to their headpiece and armour. This gives the player some autonomy and decision-making power on how they want their hero to turn out. However, last season’s skin, A-7000 Wargod Ana, only had eight customisations, so the Onryo Hanzo skin is even more disappointing.
Not only does the skin have five customisations, but those five options are divided between two weapon designs and three colours. Players commented on how they felt this was an extremely dull move with no creativity since all the previous Mythic skins would at least get armour changes.

The new skin isn’t all bad, though, since Blizzard has made an effort to introduce some unique concepts to the hero. This includes skin-specific sound effects, custom hero-select animation, a new visual aesthetic to his Dragonstrike ability, and, of course, the customisations to his appearance.
For those not entirely against the new skin, they agree that the customised sound effects on using his Storm and Sonic arrows are some consolation. Other than that, the Onryo Hanzo skin has some really nice colour palettes that blend in beautifully with his custom hero-select animation as well as his Dragonstrike ability animation. These are definitely skills every Hanzo main will want to see.
While Overwatch players are disappointed with the lack of customisation options, some are hopeful Blizzard will make some changes to the skin in future updates to allow more visual changes. Maybe with some upgrades, the new Onryo Hanzo skin could be up to par with the previous Mythic skins in Overwatch.

How to Get Onryo Hanzo Skin

If you’re still wondering how to get the latest Mythic skin for Season 7, it requires the same conditions as before: Reach Level 80 on the Battle Pass. Once you unlock the Battle Pass, you can play the game to keep adding points. When you hit Level 80, you’ll be able to unlock the Onryo Hanzo skin.
This became another point of contention amongst players as in previous seasons; You could unlock the base version of the skin at lower levels in the Battle Pass. You would unlock more customisations as you ranked up through the season. In Season 7 however, they have changed this feature so that the Onryo Hanzo skin is unlocked at Level 80 in its entirety.

Conclusion
We’re almost a week past the release of Season 7: Rise of Darkness in Overwatch 2, and there hasn’t been a single hint as to the changes regarding the Onryo Hanzo skin. While players can always hold out hope for some future updates, for now, they’ll have to make do with the present customisation options for the Mythic skin.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can We Get the Onryo Hanzo Skin for Free?
Unfortunately, the Onryo Hanzo skin can only be acquired by purchasing the premium Battle Pass for Season 7 and then levelling it up. If you haven’t purchased the Battle Pass, you won’t be able to get your hands on this season’s Mythic skin, even if you reach Level 80 on the Battle Pass. This might seem a bit pay-to-win to some people, but in the end, skins don’t affect or factually better gameplay.
What Other Legendary Skins Are Available in Season 7?
Blizzard has released a number of other skins besides the Onryo Hanzo Mythic skin. These include the Ghostly Bride Widowmaker, Victorian Doll Echo, Azmodan Wrecking Ball, Night Raven Illari, and Diesel Baron Ramattra. These are all skins of Legendary rarity, so expect them to have some super cool effects of their own.
How Much Is the Premium Overwatch 2 Battle Pass?
The premium Battle Pass in Overwatch 2 costs about 1,000 coins in-game. This equates to about $10 for the Battle Pass. However, there is another $40 bundle that features the premium Battle Pass as well as the Lilith Moira skin, Inarius Pharah skin, Pumpkin Bastion skin, 2,000 coins, and 20 Battle Pass Levels. It’s a pretty good deal if you want to get your hands on those extra skins and get some help grinding for that Onryo Hanzo skin at Level 80.
