It is only March and enthusiasts from the RPG category in the gaming world already have things to celebrate, one of which is the release of Hogwarts Legacy, which was launched on PS5, Windows and XSXS last month and will be introduced to other platforms such as PS4, XBox One and Nintendo Switch later this year. Hogwarts Legacy did not need long to attract the attention of the masses, especially Potterheads, as it enrolled the protagonist into a setting in the late 1800s, a century earlier than what happened in the original Harry Potter novel series. The ultimate mission of this game is to unveil an ancient secret that lies within the wizarding world, with the help of students as well as professors.
But before you go ahead to play the game, here are some things you would like to take note of:
- Do Not Worry About Getting Sorted
One of the best things about the wizarding world in the Harry Potter series is the Sorting Ceremony. While each of the four houses, Gryffindor, Slytherin, Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw, has their own superior personalities and traits, it does not really reflect in this game. Although it is cool to access your own common room, it is not visited much so it is only wise to go with your gut when you are stuck with the choice of your house. Moreover, being sorted to a particular house will not change your characteristics mechanically either.
- Eyeball Chests Are THE Gold
If you wish to earn gold, I mean, loads of them, then look no further than chests that have eyeballs on them. You are likely to meet them right from the start during your gameplay and its 500 galleons’ worth of gold is simply the greatest source of income you can find, apart from selling your gears. Before you can sneak on them and open them up, you will need to earn a Disillusionment spell upon your completion of certain quests. The spell makes you more or less invisible, the perfect way to earn the 500 galleons within the big-eyed chests.
- Need a Change? Head to Hogsmeade!
It could be boring looking at the same hairstyle, eye colour, facial features during the course of the gameplay in Hogwarts Legacy. Fortunately, you do not need to come up with a Polyjuice potion to change them in this game. Apart from face shape, skin tone and gender, a player can simply alter their appearance accordingly by heading to Hogsmeade. Just pay a small fee and a refreshed look is on the cards for you to take on the missions and classes within the game.
- Let Us Not Skip Classes or Assignment, Shall We?
Ah yes, playing Hogwarts Legacy is like revisiting old memories of attending classes and completing homeworks, but lessons in the game are not mundane nor tedious like the ones in our Muggle World. Most of the tasks in classes are direct, requiring you to perform things that you have been doing already. And their rewards? Unlocking spells that will come handy in challenges or your future quest, which is a fundamental component of becoming a skilled wizard or witch.
- Stupefy Your Battle Buddy
Fans of the Harry Potter series are no stranger to this spell as it was one of Harry’s favourites in the franchise, alongside Expelliarmus. Stupefy is a stunning spell that makes your opponent or enemy unconscious. A tip to casting this spell is to protect yourself from an enemy attack with a Protego shield charm, before firing a counterattack at them with the stunning spell. You can always upgrade your Stupefy spell by unlocking the talent tree, which will result in two stunners at the same time or an improved effectiveness of your Stupefy spell.
- Get a Broom (No Pun Intended)
Needless to say, Hogwarts is huge. You can spend years not figuring out the layout and floor plan of every visible and hidden location of the castle, not to mention the vast countryside that is surrounding the place. Hence, before you embark on a long tour outside Hogwarts, our advice to you is to unlock a broom. This is because by travelling on foot in the countryside, you can wear yourself down before completing any concrete tasks in that area.
- Main Quests First, Side Hustles Do Not Go Away
One notable thing about Hogwarts Legacy is that you determine the pace of your gameplay. It is imperative that you complete the storyline within the main quest as there will be lots of spells and things to be unlocked, including the all-important Room of Requirement where you can literally get anything you want from. Fret not if you wish to come back to an incomplete side quest later as they will not be deleted or removed even when the season has changed!
These are the things I wished I knew before becoming a student in Hogwarts Legacy, hope they will provide a tip or two for your student experience in the game!
