New Powers
Mario is privy to a whole host of powers that allow players to perform incredible feats. This subsection is dedicated to all the new powers at Mario’s disposal. Check them out below.

#1: Elephant Fruit
The Elephant Fruit is the most memorable in the game because it lets you use the Elephant Suit. Naturally, the power-up comes with several perks, such as the Trunk Swing, Water Spray, and Crouched Trunk Swing. Naturally, the Water Spray is used to spray water at enemies from a distance.
#2: Bubble Flower
This is a power-up that allows players to shoot bubbles at enemies. Instead of guns, you have bubbles that can also damage enemies. To be more specific, the Bubble Flower traps enemies within a bubble. You can also jump to new heights using bubbles as footholds.
#3: Drill Mushroom
The Drill Mushroom is an exploration tool that lets you drill through blockades to uncover new levels. You can also use it as an attack; However, it’s limited because you can only drill downwards or upwards. Just make sure that enemies are in your path and that you’re good.
#4: Super Mushroom
Super Mushroom lets you grow in size. It’s an iconic ability that can be found in the majority of Mario games, if not all. The power-up makes you impervious to a hit. Finally, you’ll also be able to break blocks by using Mario’s iconic jump-smash.
#5: Fire Flower
The Fire Flower is also an iconic power-up that’s available in many previous Mario games. You’ll be able to shoot fireballs from a distance. Sure enough, you’ll be able to gun opponents down from a reasonable distance. The closest weapon to this is the fire arrow among The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom weapons. It’s simply devastating!
#6: Super Star
Super Star is another iconic power-up that grants you invulnerability for a brief period of time. It’s represented by a star that’s only active while the ability is active. Yes, you’ll crush any opponent in your way after contact with Mario.

#7: Yoshi
Yoshi is one of Mario’s iconic companions, so he makes an impressive return in Super Mario Bros. Wonder. You can ride on Yoshi’s back to quickly traverse levels in the game. As a plus, Yoshi also boosts your jumping ability and lets you eat enemies and spit them back at other enemies as projectiles.
#8: Lakitu’s Cloud
The Lakitu’s Cloud is a handy power-up that allows you to ascend levels via a cloud. In essence, it allows you to fly. However, it’s still an explorative tool, so you can’t attack enemies with it. Enemies will attack you, and you’ll be knocked off the Lakitu’s Cloud if the attack hits you. On the side, you can also collect other items, including the Fire Flower.
#9: Lava Form
You can travel to different levels filled with lava using this ability. In short, having it activated makes you impervious to all forms of lava damage. You’ll even be able to swim in lava, so it’s a handy power-up for levels filled with lava.
#10: Ghost Form
Ghost Form turns Mario into a ghost upon a hit, and you have to make contact with another player within five seconds. Or Mario won’t turn back to his original self. It’s not a favourite of ours, but it does have its uses (Beating enemy crowds).
#11: Goomba Form
The Goomba Form can be activated by obtaining a Wonder Flower. Mario will take his Goomba Form to become a terror on the battlefield. However, beware, because once you transform, you won’t be able to jump or move with agility.
#12: Spike Ball Form
The Spike Ball turns Mario into a ball of mayhem (Spikes and quick speed included) that can level opponents. Thankfully, the ball can jump and move around the sandbox. So, even if enemies aren’t coming your way, you can go on the offensive.
#13: Balloon Form
Mario will inflate almost like a balloon to float around levels. He uses his hands to direct his movement. It’s definitely not the best way to traverse, but it has its perks.
#14: Stretchy Form
Stretchy Form is a power that stretches Mario like rubber. It’s especially great for manoeuvring across tricky terrain. So, it’s not a combat power-up, rather, you should explore with it.
#15: Hoppycat Form
Mario’s Hoppycat Form is a favourable power-up that opens up new ways to traverse. For one, you’ll be able to jump to greater heights. So, there’s no foothold beyond your reach. You can also impale enemies with the spike located atop Mario’s head.

#16: Wubba Form
Wubba Form transforms Mario into a blob-like creature that can help him get out of sticky situations. For one, this form can stick to walls and ceilings, so you can reach levels and treasures that were otherwise tricky to traverse.
#17: Cake Form
Cake Form is another power-up, but this time, it transforms Mario into a giant cake. As a cake, you’ll be able to jump and move from side to side. You’ll also be impervious to damage while in this form.
#18: Top-Down Form
The Top-down Form is a new type of power-up in Super Mario Bros. Wonder. It essentially flips the level you’re trying to beat upside down. So, you’ll be able to traverse the levels in new ways.
#19: Metal Form
The Metal Form is yet another interesting power-up making a return in the game. This form lets you go through electrified zones without taking any damage. However, you’ll only be impervious to damage for a brief period of time.
The Bonus Levels Are Fun
The good thing about the six worlds of Super Mario Bros. Wonder is that they all have bonus levels. These levels are Break Time, Badge Challenge and Expert Badge Challenge, Wiggler Race, KO Arena, and Search Party. They all have a recurring theme, which luckily doesn’t turn repetitive in the final phases of the game.
- KO Arena: You have to eliminate enemy gauntlets in succession. The closest modes to this are the Mystery House levels in Super Mario 3D World. You can win three 10-flower coins in these levels, and the faster you are, the more coins you’ll win.
- Break Time: These are short levels that reward players with Wonder Seeds upon completion.
- Wiggler Race: You race a Wiggler using roller skates to finish first.
- Search Party: This is a level where you find five hidden Wonder Tokens to receive a Wonder Seed.
- Badge Challenge and Expert Badge Challenge: You’ll use the abilities from a specific badge to beat a challenge. You’ll also be rewarded with a badge upon completing the challenge. There are different types of badges in Super Mario Bros. Wonder. You’ll find badges that let you run faster, jump higher, or grapple with a tool across uneven paths.
