Super People, a game that initially caught players’ attention with its distinctive ideas, is sadly packing up for good. At its core, this game boasted a striking resemblance to PUBG, but with a twist, featuring mechanics unlike anything else. For instance, it had selectable classes with unique abilities, reminiscent of Apex Legends. Additionally, you had the possibility to enhance your weaponry using parts found within the game.
Initially, these concepts worked a treat: However, player interest waned over time, and the inevitable end arrived on the May 23. Regrettably, Super People is no longer available on Steam – and they’ll be shutting down all their servers on August.

What Happened to Super People?

The game’s narrative began rather promisingly. Its open beta in 2022 saw over 4.3 million players participating. The Korean developers left no stone unturned to keep the gaming community intrigued, hosting tournaments with prize pools reaching up to $10,000. They even extended invitations to Twitch streamers in an effort to showcase their game to a larger audience.
This strategy initially paid off, with Super People witnessing live player counts soaring above 10,000 at any given moment. Remember, despite its fundamental Battle Royale gameplay similar to PUBG, it distinguished itself with numerous unique mechanics. Key amongst these were classes with distinct abilities and the opportunity to enhance in-game weapons with different powers.

However, things didn’t quite pan out as anticipated. The developers found themselves unable to effectively curb cheaters, and also struggled to maintain a balance of power among the different classes. This led to a decrease in the number of players and a tendency for existing players to stick to similar gameplay styles. One can only guess how these issues could have escalated in the long run.
But the worst decision regarding Super People related to in-game cosmetic items. Much like in PUBG Mobile, players didn’t actually own any cosmetics. Instead, how many days you could use them was determined randomly – and to extend their usage, real money had to be spent. As you can imagine, this decision regarding cosmetics provoked serious backlash from players, leading to a progressive decline in player numbers.

Super People 2 Era

In response to mounting complaints from the gaming community and rapidly dwindling player numbers, the developers made a significant decision. They briefly removed Super People from Steam and then announced the forthcoming Super People 2, touting it as a more enjoyable, balanced, and unique gameplay experience, released in Early Access.
However, what transpired was quite the opposite of their promises. The game had been stripped of all the unique features that initially set it apart from PUBG. For instance, the in-game weapon upgrade mechanic was now gone, reducing the gameplay to a run-of-the-mill Battle Royale. Moreover, the distinct structure initially adored by 10,000 players was completely obliterated.
All of this brings us to the crux of today’s discussion. Due to falling player numbers, the game first had to shutter its solo mode, followed by the duo mode, and as of the May 23, it can no longer be downloaded. The Steam page still exists, but the game is unavailable for download. According to an official statement, the game will be entirely shut down come the 21st of August.
