Ellie and Joel have been through a lot, but the fight’s far from over. Read on to learn how you can get through to the end without dying too often.
Series 4 of this The Last of Us Walkthrough and Guide took you all the way to Pittsburgh where you met Henry and Sam. Joel and Ellie decided to team up with them. After all, they have a common destination: The Fireflies.
Safety in numbers, right? Well, as you know by now, a lot can go wrong in Joel’s and Ellie’s world. The following chapters are no exception to that rule. There are some tricky and stressful sections in the last areas of the game.
This walkthrough will guide you through them without giving away too much of the story.
Chapter 6: The Suburbs
Sewers
Jump up the little waterfalls to your left and open the sewer crate. Follow Henry. Jump into the water, dive next to the gate and remove a pipe.
Swim through, go up the stairs, climb up the ladder, take the pallet to Ellie, take her to the other side and wait until the group helps you up. Follow Henry.
Open the door, jump over furniture, turn left, open the door, deal with the infected, jump over the barricade and keep going.
There are clickers ahead, be stealthy, keep turning left, then boost Henry up the wall. Keep moving, it’s straightforward. Keep running, and at the end shoot infected until Ellie opens the door.
Suburbs
Make your way past all the houses until you go down some stairs. After a cutscene plays, you need to sneak and kill your way to the house at the end to take out the sniper.
You’ll take the sniper’s place, and have to shoot enemies for a while. When the guy in the tank pops out from the hatch, shoot him. A cutscene, and some more shooting follow. After another cutscene, it’s time to move on.
Chapter 7: Tommy’s Dam
Hydroelectric Dam
Make your way upriver, turn the wheel at the hydro plant, then dive where bubbles come to the surface. Loosen the pallet from below, take it to Ellie, then take her to the other side. Then you can cross.
Go straight ahead after going upstairs, try to open the gate, watch a cutscene, and then follow the others. Apart from a confrontation with some raiders, you’re in for a fairly relaxing few minutes. Stick to Tommy, and it’s no problem.
Ranch House
Follow Ellie’s tracks. Apart from another fight with some hunters, this is a really nice part of the game. Find Ellie in the ranch house, take care of some more bad guys, and enjoy another cutscene.
Chapter 8: The University
Go Big Horns
Make your way to the centre of campus, ride into the building to the left, get off Callus, open the door, and deal with the runners upstairs. There are loads of them, but you’ll find a flamethrower up there. Roast’em!
Start the generator, get back down, open the gate, and get back on Callus. Go straight, then left, then straight ahead, steer left, then pass through the arch leading through a building.
Turn right, then left, get off the horse in front of the gate, crouch and get into the building. There are clickers and a bloater once you jump through the hole to get downstairs. Make your way through, either by sneaking past them or killing them, to get to the generator on the other side.
Back in the courtyard, move the generator to the power cables next to the gate, turn it on, get back on Callus. Head through the arch on the other side, turn right, and ride towards the building, then jump over the barricade. Get off the horse when you’re in the car close to the gate.
Try to open the gate, then get the dumpster a bit behind the car. Push it towards the gate. Move the dumpster to the side of the container and climb up into the building.
Science Building
Look around, until Ellie calls out for other people, then follow her. Look at the clipboard on the crates, then go upstairs. Follow Ellie, then go through the door on the right at the end of the corridor.
Go through the room, open another door and watch the cutscene. Make your way back out of the building, deal with the bad guys your preferred way, and watch a cutscene.
Continue on your way, dealing with baddies as they turn up, until you’re back at the horse.
Chapter 9: Lakeside Resort
The Hunt
You’ll play as Ellie for a bit. Stalk the deer, shoot it, then follow the blood trail. Watch a cutscene once you find the dead deer.
The next part is straightforward. Make every shot count, then follow David. You briefly get separated. Deal with a few clickers quietly, then you find David again.
Let David boost you up a ledge, then head to the ladder. Follow David again, then make every shot count. There are some bombs on the floor. Place them next to the windows to help with the killing.
Follow David to the bridge and a cutscene follows.
Cabin Resort
Gallop away, get ready to press the action button now and then to shake off bad guys. Run to the cabin, jump through the window. Go through the door, leave the house, and make your way across the compound to the rocky area. Sneak all the way, or kill guys along the way.
Run along the nature path. At the second tunnel, you need to pull a dumpster out of its side before you can get through. Jump down, and sneak or kill your way to the other side. Pull away the two dumpsters next to the building at the fence.
Enter the building, make your way through it and be aware of the guys who want to kill you. Open the door on the other side of the house, and watch a cutscene.
Once you’re Joel again, head towards the resort and heal yourself ASAP. After you kill some guys, go through the green house and jump out the window. Jump over the blocks, get ready to press the action button, then watch a cutscene.
You’re Ellie again. Run, turn left and open the door. Pull away the medical bed, and get out of the building by jumping through the window to the left. Head into the other building. Stealth-kill one of the guys to get his gun.
Deal with people along the way any way you wish.
Leave the building, turn right, then left, go down the alley, head upstairs, turn left, keep going until you come to a fence. Enter the building to your left, go straight through it, turn right, go to the cars, then head through the gap between buildings.
Jump on the dumpster and climb through the window. Make your way through the dining area, open the door, and a final fight between Ellie and David occurs. Do not let him hit you. It’s instant death.
You need to sneak around, use bottles and bricks to lure him into areas where you can sneak-attack him. Do this until it’s over. You need to attack him three times. This can be hard, you might need a few tries. Take your time to learn his movement patterns. They change after each successful attack.
You’re then Joel again. Run until you see lights, deal with the guys. Then keep going towards the fires in bins, they point the way. Head into the building and through the building.
You’re Ellie again. Crawl towards your weapon, be ready to press a button, then watch the cutscene.
Chapter 10: Bus Depot
Highway Exit
Follow the signs to the hospital and head through the bus depot. Look at the ladder, boost Ellie up, climb the ladder, and follow Ellie. Head through the door after talking to Ellie, then follow Ellie.
Underground Tunnel
Make your way through the triage camp. Talk to Ellie, then go through the bus, jump out the window, and follow the sign to the tunnel.
Make your way through the tunnel, which is full of infected, including bloaters and clickers. Sneak past them, kill them – you know the drill! You can climb on trucks to shoot infected from above.
You’ll get to a part where you have to dive after getting past all the infected. Just dive through the sunken bus under the truck, then get up on the other side and let the ladder down for Ellie.
Keep going and boost Ellie over the fence with the jammed door. Keep going, then it’s time to dive again.
Dive through the door to the right, then turn right, and dive quickly until you can get to the surface again. Go up the stairs, then climb up the ventilation shaft. Keep going, find the pallet, and do the usual thing.
Go to where Ellie drops the ladder. Pick up the ladder, place it against the opposite wall, climb up, pick up the ladder, carry it to the other side, drop it again, go down, pick it up again, then use it to cross the gap.
Then go upstairs, walk a bit, and jump from platform to platform, then try to save Ellie. Watch a cutscene, and prepare for the last challenging stretch.
Chapter 11: The Firefly Lab
This part is intense, and you’ll once again have to decide between sneaking past everyone, stealth-kills, or full-on shoot-outs. Your first goal is to reach the West Wing, then keep going until you get to the stairwell.
Go upstairs. Turn right, then left. Follow the signs to “Surgery”. Head through a few rooms, and turn right at the end. Head towards “Pediatrics”. You probably have to kill some people along the way.
Open the door, and keep going. After two more doors, you’ll see Ellie. Kill the surgeon. It’s up to you what to do with the other two. Then pick up Ellie.
This next part can be stressful, especially if you get lost. To not get lost follow the red alarm lights. At one stage, you need to cut through a room to avoid soldiers in front of you. Keep following the lights afterwards. They lead to an elevator. Get there as quickly as you can.
Breathe. Watch the cutscene.
Chapter 12: Jackson
Just follow Joel. There is not much to do. And after the loss of Tess and so many others, you deserve a nice walk in the “Park”. And that is it, folks! You’ve made it to the end of The Last of Us Part 1!
