The Witcher books are excellent, easily rivalling the likes of Harry Potter and The Lord of the Rings. We like Ciri’s character development, but Player.com’s love for Geralt of Rivia is out of this world. So today, we’re listing several games, books, movies, and series that are being released for the series in the foreseeable future.
That said, don’t expect any new entry in the franchise to drop in 2023. Instead, look forward to 2024 and beyond for these books, TV series, games, and more. On the bright side, fans will be delighted to know that there’s a new anime series in development already.

The Witcher Games
This section is dedicated to the next major entry in the game series that’s being developed by CD Projekt Red. Yes, Xbox Series X and PS5 owners will be able to play this game on their consoles. The only requirement is patience for the creators to finish the game. That said, the game may be released in 2026 or 2025 at the earliest.
The Witcher 4: Polaris
The Witcher 4: Polaris which is codenamed Polaris is the next instalment in the franchise and it’s set to introduce Ciri as the new protagonist. At worst, a new protagonist will be introduced but Ciri will be enough; Especially with her reality-bending abilities. That said, The Witcher 4: Polaris will spot an overhauled combat system that’s more aggressive, fast-paced, and varied. Supposedly, this is the game of our dreams; One where the combat mechanics aren’t awkward.
CD Projekt Red’s game director, during a recent interview, said, “Our priority is to try to do something that always goes beyond the limits; we want to go further. We want to try to do something new compared to what we already see in RPGs”, he continued. “The idea is indeed to build something that goes beyond the previous The Witcher and that manages to tell something more intense, with also more intense gameplay”.
Besides that, players can look forward to getting more freedom over features such as character creation, progression, and upgrades. The game will also benefit from other quality-of-life updates, such as UI updates to Ciri’s POV as the protagonist. She’s a far different character from Geralt, the protagonist in the former entries. The last juicy detail is that it’s one of the handful of games that’s being developed from scratch using Unreal Engine 5. So, we can expect better visuals, texture packs, and an overhauled physics engine that affects the characters and their immediate environments.
The Witcher Series and Movies
The Witcher series was a smashing hit, starring Henry Cavill as Geralt. Maybe the critics’ reviews weren’t too flattering, but fans love the series. So, the bigger question now is what’s next for the series? The only notable entry besides season 4 of the TV series is the upcoming Netflix animated movie. That and the fact that Liam Hemsworth will star as Geralt in the next series of the live-action.
The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep
This is a new movie that’s coming to Netflix in 2024 and it focuses on Geralt’s monster-slaying journey throughout the game. Similar experiences are found in Remedy Entertainment’s entire lineup. Moving forward, this is also the second animated film, with events straight from episodes 5 and 6 of season 1 of the TV series. It’s an adaptation of A Little Sacrifice, which is a short story courtesy of Andrzej Sapkowski. Thankfully, Geralt will be voiced by Doug Cockle, who is also the voice behind the main character in the video game series.
In the new movie, Geralt solves issues around the Merpeople and a coastal town in the world of Witchers. The face of the protagonist has also changed and it’s neither Henry Cavill nor Liam Hemsworth. Other cast members of the new movies are:
- Joey Batey also stars as Jaskier again.
- Christina Wren will voice Essi Daven for the first time.
- Anya Chalotra from the live-action series plays Yennefer of Vengerberg.
Besides the short story that the game is based on, we don’t know if the creators will change any of the narratives. Nonetheless, the story is clear so far. Geralt is tasked with settling disputes and conflicts between a seaside village and the Merpeople. Geralt will send for his friends and, while at it, make new allies to resolve the issues between the two parties. This being the realm of Witchers, sex, violence, abusive words, and drug abuse are the norm. A game with similar themes is Baldur’s Gate 3. Since this movie is based on Geralt’s memories, there should be some wiggle room for the creators to spin their tales.
The Witcher Books
Andrzej Sapkowski hasn’t released any new books since 2013, so it was to our delight that he’s working on a new book. It’s still untitled because the author prefers his privacy. He told the Ukrainian YouTube channel, Fantastic Talk, that his new book should be done within a year and no more. He continued “I never say these things because, with me, you never know. Maybe I’ll do something, maybe I won’t”, Sapkowski said. “So far, when I said that I would write something, and then I didn’t write it, people complained as if I had deceived them and as if I had lied”.
“That’s why I don’t like to talk about what I’m doing until I finish doing it”, the author continued. “Because until I finish it, I don’t think it exists. But since I always make exceptions for Ukrainians, I will do it this time too. Yes, I’m working on a new book about The Witcher quite diligently. It may take a year, but no longer”.
Our Final Say: The Witcher 4: Polaris Is Our Most Anticipated Entry
We’ve got nothing against books since they help us cope with our burnout. However, The Witcher 4: Polaris is an interactive action adventure that’s being developed with groundbreaking technology. That is Unreal Engine 5, not the PS5, Xbox Series X, or PC. So, we’re looking forward to the game’s visuals and overall performance. In the meantime, why not try out these adult PS5 games?
