It was only a week since our last Wuthering Waves article, as we talked about the disappointing storyline and the community’s reaction. Fast forward to today, with Wuthering Waves 1.1 released, the consensus has not yet taken an entire 180-degree turn, but the update does entice applause and praise towards their improvement.
For starters, Wuthering Waves 1.1 brought upon a new map, Mt. Firmament, a gorgeous looking time-frozen area with a mountain shaped like a dragon, the introduction of Jinshi and her banner, and the continuation from act six of the main story.
In addition, part two of Wuthering Waves 1.1 will feature Changli’s banner and story quest on July 22. Furthermore, Kuro Games does not need to do much to sell the character, considering players are already head over heels for her, especially with the smile in one particular scene. Considering everything, Wuthering 1.1 has been a massive upgrade, and we will touch on why below.
Everything Kuro Games Improved in Wuthering Waves 1.1
1) Story and Cinematics
To no one’s surprise, Wuthering Waves’s initial six-arc story quest was all right, but let us feel wanting more. The ending was abrupt, and we had little progress on who we were. In 1.1, we had our filling as the story immediately picked up where it left off, with the game explaining who the little creature who appeared in our fight against Dreamless and the whereabouts of Jinshi.

The story showed the numerous characters we befriended as we interacted before moving on to the quest’s theme, finding Jinshi at Mt. Firmament. Before we could head there, we waited for our Wayfinder at the ferry, and the game chose the precise timing to introduce Changli and her role in Jinzhou. Then, as we sail across the sea, a beautiful cinematic of Changli humming appears, and we arrive at the outskirts of Mt. Firmament.
After venturing deeper inside, the story slowly unfolded with us being in a place entirely frozen in time as we gradually unravel the mystery between the place, Jinshi and Jue (Sentinel). Once we met up with Jinshi, the story took it one gear further with numerous stunning cinematics with Jinshi, Changli and Jue, making it feel like Wuthering Waves 1.1 was the proper global release.
Nevertheless, a good story needs a befitting end, and the end was much more than we could have hoped for, with Jinshi successfully winning her duel against Jue, us discovering our past and the foreshadowing of our next journey. If you were to put Wuthering Waves 1.0 and 1.1 side by side, it is a no contest, but we now understand the previous patch was laying the foundation for a thrilling ending.
2) Characters Showcase

Simply put, what makes a story good is its characters. In Jinshi’s case, we gradually learned of her struggles, responsibilities and past in numerous cinematics, allowing us to see her grow throughout the quest and reaffirm her decision. Usually, as protagonists in gacha games, we would lend a helping hand to the characters. However, in this case, Jinshi’s final trial was hers alone, and it is perfectly fine as we could fully immerse ourselves as Jinshi as the main character.

Besides Jinshi’s progression, Wuthering Waves 1.1 also gave Changli the spotlight with breathtaking cinematics, unnecessary (Necessary) angle shots, and also a trial to test her out before release. Trialling a character before release is something scarce in gacha games, but Wuthering Waves took advantage of the niche and gave players the chance to use Changli in full combat in the story.
It is a small gesture, but it definitely helps free-to-play (F2P) players decide whether to save or pull for current and future characters. Hopefully, this remains the case moving forward for Wuthering Waves as Genshin Impact players have been screaming for a Dainsleif trial since his first appearance, but to no avail.
3) Music and Soundtrack
Lastly, the music and soundtracks in 1.1 were a massive upgrade from 1.0, where the only memorable music was, unfortunately, the home screen. In 1.1, we enjoyed a siren-esque melody from Changi, the dramatic boss music from Jue and Jinshi’s boss fight and the ending finale to the story.
While it is still not Yu-Peng Chen level, it is still better than listening to the repeating melody in the main city.
Parting Note
With everything considered, Wuthering Waves 1.1 is a massive step up from the half-completed global release a few months prior, and it just proves that the developers are listening to our feedback.
