Alan Wake 2 has taken The Game Awards 2023 by storm, as it was able to take home not 1 or 2 but 3 awards. From the moment of its launch, Alan Wake 2 has been a hit. Remedy’s new horror sequel came out in October, but many players are already craving more. Remedy heard of the pleas of the fans and came out with great news: With the final update, not only new story content but also Alan Wake 2 New Game Plus have been released.
Alan Wake 2 New Game Plus
It has been 13 years since the first game was released, but Alan Wake 2 finally did hit the digital stores. The new update, aptly called “The Final Draft”, includes an expanded ending scene and a more challenging difficulty level.
What’s more, the players can now also keep all the upgrades and weapons that they have worked so hard for and jump into the new game. Of course, you will have to have finished your first playthrough to unlock the Alan Wake 2 New Game Plus, and the game’s developer, Sam Lake, says, “You have earned [those] by playing through the game.”
If you are a veteran of the series and you think that the game was a child’s play for you, now you can also try your hand at the Nightmare difficulty level. Sam Lake also explains that although Alan Wake 2 New Game Plus is the same story retold, this new playthrough will have meaning.
All of these mean that the new NG+ mode can be understood as a part of the lore. These news also show that the developers at Remedy know their fans and understand their never-ending desire to be a part of this new story.
What’s New in Alan Wake 2 NG+ Mode?
In a new Playstation blog post, Alan Wake creator Sam Lake mentions that the Alan Wake 2 New Game Plus mode means that the player is “Making progress” and that “Things have shifted in subtle ways.” But what does that mean for the story? Where else are we to go from here?
With the NG+ mode, almost everything that the players have gathered throughout their time in the world of Alan Wake 2 will be carried over into the next playthrough. This means that Manuscript Fragments can also still be collected, making it easier to upgrade more weapons in the new playthrough.
Inventory upgrades will also be carried over. However, some of the items that further the plot may not be carried over, meaning that you might have to obtain them again in the Alan Wake 2 New Game Plus mode as the story progresses.
Once you have finished the game, a new section entitled “The Final Draft” will be available to you as you launch the game. You click it, choose a difficulty, and immediately see a different opening scene than the one you were welcomed with at the beginning.
However, the game goes back to its usual course right after that. There are new Manuscript Fragments, maybe new hints, and there is also a new ending for those who want to see the most of this game.

The story of Alan Wake 2 might be over, but we are definitely not over this game. From its incredible art direction to its chilling soundtrack and exceptional gameplay mechanics, Alan Wake 2 has set a new standard for all the other survival games to come.
