Frankly, Far Cry 6 wasn’t the best game in the franchise. For one, it only sold around 372,000 copies within the first week, while Far Cry 5 sold millions of copies within the same period. So, the question now is: How will Far Cry 7 perform in its first week? To that end, Player.com rounded up all the Far Cry 7 news circulating the web. Yes, the upcoming features could make or break the experience.

Why Were Far Cry 3, Far Cry 4, and Far Cry 5 Special?
Far Cry 3, Far Cry 4, and Far Cry 5 are supposedly the best games in the entire franchise. So, this section is dedicated to all the features that made both games so memorable. We hope Far Cry 7 will improve on the elements below when it’s released. In the meantime, check out some games you can replay repeatedly.

#1: Villains
Far Cry 3 and Far Cry 5 share the same DNA; However, they feature the best villains compared to other Far Cry games. Vaas and Joseph are equally ambitious and incredibly compelling villains. To start with, Vaas has gone off the deep end and yet, his stories are seared in our memories like white rice.
He’s an extremely clever villain whose psychotic ramblings bear some truth. The same could be said of Joseph Seed, whom players will meet at the very start of the game. Both are charismatic villains, but not in a condescending fashion — nice contrasts to Far Cry 6’s villain, who is simply pompous with no extras. So, we hope Far Cry 7’s villain will put on a better show than Pagan Min from Far Cry 4, the only egocentric Far Cry villain we deserve.
#2: Island Locations Are the Best
Many players skipped Far Cry 4 because of its setting, which was the mountains of Kyrat. Far Cry 5 was also set in the U.S., another game many fans skipped, so we can’t ignore the pattern. Far Cry 6 kept to tradition, letting players explore Yara, a Caribbean island that’s inspired by Cuba. On the flip side, Yara lacked everything that made Far Cry 3 great, which included great guns and compelling side characters. Don’t ignore the fact that many gamers wouldn’t have pre-ordered Far Cry 6 if it wasn’t set in the Caribbean.
#3: Hunting and Crafting Are Fun
Every Far Cry game until Far Cry 6 had fun hunting mechanics. Besides, crafting upgrades after gathering resources from hunting animals or fishing was an intuitive experience. Weapon and pouch upgrades were so vital to combat, hunting down animals just for their pelts just made sense. Also, Far Cry 3 lets you sell pelts, another feature that’s missing in Far Cry 6. The ability to craft explosives and other throwable items are missing from Far Cry 6.
#4: Fun Side Quests
It’s a fact that Far Cry games are notoriously short, so side quests are the best way to flesh out the experience. We could never run out of side activities in Far Cry 4, so we hope Far Cry 7 will offer a similar experience. The best example of fun side quests is Gigs in Cyberpunk 2077. From finding Skippy in a dark alley to investigating a movie gone wrong, there’s no shortage of fun.
3 New Features That Are Supposedly Coming to Far Cry 7
We’re already getting confirmation that Far Cry 7 will introduce several new game mechanics to the franchise. Two are the nonlinear gameplay and a timer mechanic for the campaign. Have a look at the new mechanics below.
#1: A Nonlinear Campaign Is Coming
Fun fact! Drew Holmes is coming back as director of Far Cry 7. He was behind Far Cry 5’s storyline and character development, so we’re not surprised that we might fight off a cult again. After all, Joseph Seed aced his role as a cult leader whose operations were hidden away in a remote part of the U.S. So, a repeat of Far Cry 5 isn’t impossible.
Player.com hopes that Far Cry 7 will let players choose from dialogue options that will affect the game’s ending. You must rescue the protagonist’s family who have allegedly been kidnapped by a cult. You may have the choice of choosing which family member to rescue first. Yes, some family members may die if you’re too late, which will affect the ending.
#2: A Timer Mechanic Urges Players to Complete the Campaign
Far Cry 7’s campaign plays out as a series of rescue missions. The protagonist must save his family members from an evil cult, so the developers are supposedly adding a 72-hour in-game timer. We reckon that you’ll get the bad ending if you ignore the timer, which hints at a nice collection of side quests. Or what else are we supposed to do when we’re not hunting down cult members?
The sense of urgency that Ubisoft Montreal is allegedly implementing in Far Cry 7 is completely new. We’re excited to see the Sons of Truth in action; Moreover, the consequences they will dish out if players don’t complete the campaign on time. Unfortunately, the 72-hour in-game limit still roughly translates to a playtime of 24 hours but pausing the in-game timer might be possible by entering a safe house.
#3: The Sons of Truth Are Unpredictable
The Sons of Truth will lie, betray, and mislead players in the upcoming RPG, adding to the story’s unpredictability. Heck, your captives will sometimes escape their bounds, but we’re not sure if we’ll be given the option to recapture them. Yes, the cult members will sometimes spill the beans, so it’s up to you to be vigilant in your dealings with them.
Far Cry 7’s Release Date
Ubisoft Montreal hasn’t released any news or demos confirming any of the features above. We’re not surprised because the studio is still riding the success of Assassin’s Creed: Mirage. However, it’s expected to launch in the fall of 2025.
Our Final Say: Far Cry 7 Will Benefit From a Longer Campaign
Far Cry 7 is introducing new mechanics and chances are, we don’t know everything in store for the new game. However, Christmas will come early if the game’s campaign is longer than 24 hours. Many Far Cry games suffer because of their short campaigns, a weak point that we hope Far Cry 7 won’t possess. Meanwhile, you can check out some critically acclaimed VR games here.
