Avowed is one of the most anticipated roleplaying games. That’s only natural as one of the most talented gaming studios, Obsidian Entertainment, is developing it. As it’s a brand new game coming from the masters of the RPG genre, one of the internet’s burning questions is: Is Avowed coming to PS5?
The most recent Xbox Developers Direct livestream showcased a series of great upcoming games. But one of the most exciting Game Pass titles among them was Obsidian’s Avowed. Knowing that the studio has delivered wonders in the past, Avowed has sparked significant interest among players.
That’s why those who are not in the Xbox ecosystem are wondering if Avowed coming to PS5. Seeing that many exclusives have become available across platforms, let’s answer this highly popular question below.
Is Avowed Coming to PS5 After Launch?
Avowed will not be available on PlayStation 5 on launch. Unlike many other timed exclusives, it’s pretty unlikely to see Obsidian’s new RPG on any PlayStation console in the future as well.
Avowed is different from many other games on the Xbox platform, particularly the Xbox Game Pass. That’s because Obsidian Entertainment is a subsidiary of Microsoft. In a sense, it’s similar to games like Halo, Forza, Gears, and the Sea of Thieves. That’s why Avowed coming to PS5 won’t be a reality even years after its release.
In short, you need to own an Xbox Series X|S or a PC to dive into the world of Eora, on which other Obsidian games like Pillars of Eternity take place. It’s also one of the best games like Baldur’s Gate 3.
Why Is Avowed Not on PlayStation 5?
Avowed coming to PS5 or PlayStation 4 is, unfortunately, nothing more than a speculation. That’s because Microsoft acquired its developer back in 2018 and assured that its future games would be exclusive to Xbox. Since that date, every Obsidian Entertainment game released was on Xbox consoles only. For instance, their previous games, like Pentiment and the popular co-op game Grounded, are highly popular on Xbox Game Pass.
Of course, this can be disappointing for those RPG fans on PlayStation. That’s because Obsidian Entertainment is known for its brilliant work on Fallout: New Vegas, a cult classic RPG. Moreover, the most recent gameplay trailer revealed during the Developer Direct shows that Avowed seems like an ambitious title. It has been in the development process for a long time, and it looks like it will be a culmination of Obsidian’s years of expertise in creating RPG experiences.
Is Avowed Coming to Xbox One?
Avoed isn’t coming to Xbox One as well. The fans of the genre and other games of the studio guessed that Avowed coming to PS5 wouldn’t be a reality. But it probably surprised them to see that Obsidian wouldn’t be releasing Avowed on Xbox One, too.
Avowed is shaping up to be a visually and technically ambitious title. That’s probably why it will not be coming to Xbox One. The developer also stated that it was utilising the full potential of the next-gen Xbox Series X|S.
Naturally, more games each year will start being released on next-generation consoles only. Of course, this decision aligns with Microsoft’s focus on increasing the user base of its latest console as well. Furthermore, it seems like Xbox Series X is the best platform to experience Avowed’s vibrant and colourful depiction of Eora as well.
Final Thoughts
As you probably have guessed, Avowed coming to PS5 won’t be a reality in years to come. Just like Palworld on PlayStation 5, we won’t be seeing Avowed on Sony’s next-gent powerhouse.
However, there will always be games that are exclusive to certain platforms, such as Xbox’s upcoming title Avowed. At present, the only way to play this game is on a PC or an Xbox Series X|S console. This is disappointing news for PlayStation fans who are eager to explore the world of Eora, but it’s not all bad news. Since PlayStation also has its share of ambitious RPG titles.
