Diablo 4 Season 5 Release Date and Livestream Announced

Diablo 4 Season 5 is just around the corner as Blizzard has announced the release date of the fifth season of their 2024 online game of the year winner, titled: “Season of Infernal Hordes”. In their announcement on X, the game revealed that Diablo 4 Season 5 will begin on August 6 at 10 am PT.

Besides announcing the Diablo 4 Season 5 release date, they also announced that the devs would host a livestream on their official Twitch and YouTube channels sharing patch notes of Diablo 4 Season 5 on August 1 at 12 pm PDT.

Thus, players can expect Blizzard to give an overview of what they can expect in the new season, such as a new Infernal Hordes endgame mode, new questlines and Unique and Legendary items with Hellish qualities.

Things to Expect in Diablo 4 Season 5

1) Infernal Hordes Mechanic

As mentioned above, one of the most enticing content releases in Diablo 4 Season 5 is the new endgame mode called “Infernal Hordes.” However, unlike previous seasonal released content, Infernal Hordes will be available on both Seasonal and Eternal realms once players hit World Tier III.

From the information we know so far, Infernal Hordes is a game mode where players have only 60 seconds to battle waves of enemies, earning rewards by surviving the waves and defeating the Fell Council, a new group of five enemies made up of former members of the High Council of Zakarum. After the time runs out, players will get to choose one of three Infernal Offers.

Moreover, Blizzard described the mode as “a wave-based feature that you can slay” demons in droves, and players must utilise their smarts to fight through the hordes because they have limited revives before the timer runs out. If you clear the game mode, you can spend that Aether for extra rewards. You don’t lose the currency if you run out of revives, but you can only exchange it after a successful clear.

Lastly, players must complete a prerequisite quest to unlock the new endgame. After unlocking the game mode, players must acquire or craft an Infernal Compass before tackling the Infernal Realms independently or with a group.  

2) New Questlines and 50 Unique and Legendary Items with Hellish Qualities

Besides adding a new endgame mode, Diablo 4 Season 5 will expand on the questlines of Lambs and Wolves and the questline The Eyes of the Enemy, which will be available across Seasonal and Eternal Realms. In addition, Diablo 4 announced in its blog post that the new season will bring more than 50 new Unique and Legendary items.

The blog post later stated that these “weapons possess qualities that evoke the Burning Hells from which they were crafted”, meaning they follow a similar visual appeal to previous Legendary items. Players can earn all these items by defeating enemies across Sanctuary, but drop chances will increase from the Spoils of Hell in the Infernal Hordes.

Lastly, Diablo 4 Season 5 will arrive with a new battle pass, allowing players to unlock rewards like new Legendary Aspects, Favor, and three Amnesia Scrolls, which provide a free reset of the Skill Tree and Paragon Board.

Diablo 4 Season 5 Paves the Way Smoothly to First Expansion

Developers tend to have content roadmaps ready, with Blizzard stating before releasing Diablo 4 that they would follow a seasonal model for the game, with each season lasting a few months. For context, they released Season of the Malignant, Diablo 4’s first season, in July last year, with the second coming in October of the same year. In January this year, it was time for Season 3, with Season 4, one of the most praised by players so far, dropping in May.

Now, with Diablo 4 Season 5 dropping, which promises new story content, endgame mode and weapons, providing more fresh experiences for players, it is a smooth transition to their first expansion titled: “Vessel of Hatred“, which players can expect on October 8 later this year.
