Dragon’s Dogma 2 is an action-adventure game with many character classes and unique powers available. Player.com is particularly looking forward to exploiting the Trickster class. So, you can choose your Arisen’s appearance, vocation, party members, and approach to every encounter. Ultimately, you choose your own experience in Dragon’s Dogma 2.
The game’s characters, Pawns, and NPCs are all brought to life using the RE Engine, which boasts a realistic physics engine. Besides that, the AI powering your party members is cutting-edge; So it almost feels like you’re playing with human players. Dragon’s Dogma will be released for the PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC on March 22, 2024.

RE Engine Brings Powers and Characters to Life
The RE Engine is one of the best game engines out there, but we expect no less from Capcom. This engine is also called the Reach for the Moon Engine because of its visual prowess. It’s the game engine behind titles such as Resident Evil 4 Remake, Monster Hunter Wilds, Resident Evil Village, Devil May Cry 5, and Street Fighter 6.
Some of the game engine’s features include new anti-aliasing and volumetric lighting features. The anti-aliasing guarantees smooth gameplay regardless of how complex the animations are. Volumetric lighting, on the other hand, helps create a realistic world with appropriate lighting.
Likewise, the RE Engine supports VR, so we may just see Dragon’s Dogma 2 or a spinoff ported to VR. Finally, there’s a new physics engine in the game that realistically portrays debris and environmental destruction. Overall, we’re looking forward to cutting-edge visuals, great level designs, and an impressive cast of compelling characters.
A Single-Player Narrative Awaits
Dragon’s Dogma 2 is a single-player experience that’s sweetened by the presence of your main pawn. You can customise your Pawns down to their appearance and powers, making this one of the best games for character customisation. Moving forward, players can also partner with an additional two Pawns from other players.
Along the way, you’ll complete tons of missions, including main and side quests. Thankfully, we have confirmation that Dragon’s Dogma 2 will be four times bigger than its prequel. That means you’re looking forward to 70+ hours of playtime, which may easily break the 100-hour mark if you’re a completionist.
Naturally, the game is about player choices, and you’ve got many abilities and powers at your disposal. So, you decide which ending you deserve and along the way, you also call the shots when it comes to combat encounters and approaches. The end goal is to become an all-powerful dragon slayer.
New Vocations Revealed
Vocations let gamers niche their Arisen and sure, your skills and combat prowess are unique. There are nine vocations in Dragon’s Dogma 2, which are Mage, Thief, Archer, Fighter, Trickster, Warrior, Magick Archer, Sorcerer, and Mystic Spearhand.
- Mage: The Mage is perfect for casting spells both at long distances and close quarters. Magic spells will also come in different varieties, so you can expect a skill tree.
- Thief: The Thief is full of fast people who can easily evade attacks while dealing deadly attacks. We expect to see many poison-coated weapons being used because Thieves are masters at ambushing foes.
- Archer: The Archer is a support-type vocation that lets you pepper enemies from a long distance. Naturally, Archers will have several types of arrows at their disposal.
- Fighter: The Fighter is a brawler at heart, preferring to engage enemies with a shield and a sword.
- Trickster: The Trickster wields the Censer, a lantern-like weapon that conjures illusions and smoke to confuse enemies. You can trick enemies into fighting each other if you’re ingenious enough. Also, Tricksters can buff their teammates, offering boosts in damage.
- Warrior: The Warrior also prefers melee attacks with swords and shields. However, they prioritise strength over speed, compared to the Fighter. You’ll know you’re a Warrior when you’re given big hammers, great swords, great axes, and other huge weapons.
- Sorcerer: Sorcerers have the best magic spells out there because they deal huge damage. Mages, on the other hand, offer more buffs and healing spells than attack spells. That said, Sorcerer spells take a long time to cast.
- Magick Archer: Not only are you a long-ranged Archer, but you can also imbue your arrows with magic power. Besides that, Magick Archers work best against crowds because their attacks have a wide AoE.
- Mystic Spearhand: You use the Duospear, a powerful weapon that can paralyse enemies. If you like to dabble in long and short-range melee combat, this is the best vocation for you.
Diverse Monsters Await in the Wild
Once you’re beyond the safety of the castle walls, you’re in the wild, a place that’s densely populated with all sorts of monsters. Imagine Elden Ring but with an easier combat system but just as much enemy variety. Some of the monsters that have been confirmed so far are Drakes, Dullahans, Wights, Talos, Knackers, Minotaurs, Cyclops, and Griffins.
In total, there are more than 20 monsters for gamers to hunt down in Dragon’s Dogma 2. To earn your title of Dragon Slayer, expect many of your main bosses to be Dragons. After all, Dragons are integral to the game’s lore, so they’re given special treatment by developers. Most of these monsters are far too dangerous to confront alone, so strategy is a deep part of combat. Your party setup and the terrain both play huge roles during boss battles.
Goblins wield clubs and shields, Dragons can breathe fire, and Golems can shoot a death ray like Darkseid. The point is that monsters feature different designs, powers, and animations. Heck, we’re looking at dozens of hours alone exploring the different types of monsters available in Dragon’s Dogma 2.
Our Final Say: Dragon’s Dogma 2 Should be a Masterpiece
Our two cents imply that Dragon’s Dogma 2 will be a smashing hit upon launch. Already, it boasts unique lore, iconic monsters, and a variety of skills and weapons to eliminate them. Capcom’s track record over the years has been spotless and we expect even more revolutionary innovations in its upcoming game.
