It has been almost one year since the initial announcement of Elden Ring DLC was made, with no fixed release date in sight. FromSoftware’s most popular project yet, Elden Ring, has been set to receive its first DLC (Excluding the Colosseum update), and fans have been wondering how far along is the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC in its development cycle. For now, players can only hope this wait is mostly due to the sheer size of the DLC, but that has not stopped them from speculating about the Elden Ring DLC release date.

Elden Ring DLC Release Date Announcement and Speculations
Since nothing has been officially confirmed about the Elden Ring DLC, Shadow of Erdtree, all we can really do for now is speculate. However, it should be noted that the announcement for the DLC content was made on February 28th, 2023. That means that at the time of writing this article, there are only a few months left for the announcement’s one-year anniversary.

Now the fanbase has tried its best to get some information on Elden Ring’s DLC release date, and the closest they’ve been able to get has been a post by popular YouTuber Ziostorm, who mentioned that Shadow of Erdtree might be featured at The Game Awards Ceremony. He also added that Elden Ring’s DLC release date was speculated to be February 5th or somewhere around that time. It’s still important to note that all of these things are simply assumptions since only FromSoftware or Bandai could give some confirmed insight on its release.
With fans still lacking even a proper release window for the Elden Ring DLC release date, many have started to guess what the DLC will contain and why exactly is it taking so long. With a long list of new bosses, weapons, or even some entirely new features concocted by the community, that is what we’ll be talking about next.
What Is Shadow of Erdtree Expected to Be About?
You already know that there hasn’t been a fixed release date for Elden Ring DLC, Shadow of Erdtree yet. Just like that, FromSoftware has been tight-lipped on what the DLC is going to have. The only information we have to go on is the concept art released for the DLC depicting a blonde figure staring into the dark and gloomy vastness and the name itself.
Moving on to leaks from the data miner that goes by the name of Lance McDonald, Shadow of Erdtree is likely to be the size of two DLC expansion packs. This could potentially mean some new post-game content or maybe an alternate ending as well. Many Elden Ring players know that the end of the game comes with the player burning down the Erdtree, so the DLC may be working towards that as well.
Regardless of what is possible and what isn’t, all we know for now is that the expansion pack is set to be huge and bring some massive content to date. Even though there is no confirmed Elden Ring DLC release date yet, fans are optimistic that whenever it releases, it will definitely be worth the wait.

New Elden Ring DLC Comparable to Bloodborne DLC, The Old Hunters
Due to the immense development time and speculations surrounding the large size of the expansion pack, many in the community have drawn close comparisons of Shadow or Erdtree to Bloodbourne’s only DLC, The Old Hunters.
The Old Hunters expansion pack was also game-changing for Bloodborne, another Souls game by FromSoftware. It added another layer of content entirely, including a lot of additional story content, new bosses, and several unexplored areas. If Elden Ring is to follow suit, players could potentially be looking at Miquella as the main protagonist in Shadow of Erdtree. This is because while the character has been frequently mentioned in the game, FromSoftware has never given him any screen time as of yet.
There were also leaks about new bosses by leaker Sekirodubi, who mentioned there might be over 30 new bosses in the DLC expansion pack, as well as at least 16 NPC or enemy characters. All of this sounds really cool and has really driven up the anticipation for Elden Ring’s DLC release date.

Summary
Running on speculations and assumptions isn’t really fun, but it’s become something of a necessity for Shadow of Erdtree, considering there’s been no follow-up announcement of Elden Ring’s DLC release date. With the game about to reach two years since its release, the community is hoping FromSoftware has something big planned, hopefully regarding the expansion pack. Until then, we can only wait and watch.
