It has been three months since Bandai Namco revealed Tekken 8’s release date and much other info during Gamescom 2023’s Opening Night. However, there was no news regarding the game’s specific system requirements. Fortunately, the Japanese multinational video game publisher has added more to just Tekken 8’s release date today as it disclosed the game’s system requirements.
According to Bandai Namco’s official Tekken 8 webpage, the game will need 100 GB of storage to play the game on their gaming platforms, much more than Tekken 7. It comes as no surprise, as video games have been increasing in size for various reasons such as music, graphics, DLC and more. For example, Sledgehammer Games’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 remake requires gamers to have 200 GB to play, a 75 GB jump from its predecessor, Modern Warfare 2.
In today’s article, we will touch upon Tekken 8’s release date, system requirements and everything you need to know about the game.
4 Things to Know About Tekken 8
Release Date and Platforms
If there are no sudden delays, Tekken 8’s release date will fall on January 26, 2024, as confirmed by a new trailer shown during Gamescom’s Opening Night Live ceremony on August 22.
As for platforms, Tekken 8 will arrive on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Thus, apologies to PS4 fans, as the model is too old to handle the new modern games. In addition, the developers have confirmed that Tekken 8 will be entirely cross-platform, so regardless of which console you and your friends are playing on, you can battle it out in the ring.
Furthermore, to further enhance the connectivity in the competitive environment, the game will include a rollback netcode, a massive improvement over Tekken 7’s online that should lead to vastly more stable connections when playing.
System Requirements
As mentioned above, Tekken 8’s system requirements will require gamers to have 100 GB of storage, with most of it delegating to the new and improved story mode. Before moving on to the gameplay, here are the system requirements for PC players with Windows 10 or 11 and DirectX Version 12 to play the game.

Gameplay, Story and Character Roster
Besides announcing Tekken 8’s release date, Tekken 8 director Katsuhiro Harada also stated that the gameplay and mechanics will include a level of aggressiveness and competition. However, it will not be too rough for newer players to grasp. In his interview with IGN, Harade mentioned: “The key word to relay the concept for the battle system is aggressiveness. It’s not just important that a game be fun for the person playing it. It has to look fun to play to captivate and bring in new people.”
Story-wise, Tekken 8 opens a new chapter in the legendary Mishima family feud. For context, due to long-time Tekken villain Heihachi Mishima passing away, the remaining members, Jin Kazama and Kazuya Mishima will continue the fight in his stead.
Character-wise, Tekken 8 will include 32 playable characters on release as the game will have fan favourites Yoshimitsu, Dragunov, Shaheen and many more. As for additions to the character roster, we expect Bandai to add characters slowly through DLC, as it is hard to believe that the game will reveal its entire roster before launch. If Tekken 7 is anything to go by, we can expect many more characters to join in future content upgrades.

Heat System and Arcade Quest
Moving on, we will touch upon the two most hyped features coming to Tekken 8 – The new Heat System mechanic and the Arcade Quest game mode. In short, the Heat System will have the same effect as Rage Arts and Rage Drive, but it increases the aggressiveness that Harada really wants to introduce.

A blue bar will sit under the health bar of each competitor, filling during combat, and turn purple once it is ready for activation. Using it will have a similar input to activating Rage Art or a newly titled Heat Engager. During the active period of approximately 10 seconds, the player can perform Heat Dashes and a Heat Smash to cause a high amount of damage to the opponent. In addition, all attacks will result in chip damage, which converts into recoverable health.
On the other hand, Arcade Quest will be an entirely new solo mode that seems to function similarly to the Battle Hub in Street Fighter 6. Before exploring the game mode, players can create an avatar and new outfits for their favourite fighters before heading into an online tournament-style battle alongside 1v1s.
Will Tekken 8 Be the Most Popular Game in January 2024?
Despite the new and brilliant features we covered above, Tekken 8’s release date in January may not push the game to the top as Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, a game many are looking forward is also coming out in January.

However, if we are talking about just the fighting genre, Tekken 8 may dominate the headlines in the first few months of next year unless Bandai’s Jujutsu Kaisen: Cursed Clash overtake Tekken 8 due to its massive fanbase of the anime series.
