Spider-Man 2 is set to up the standard for superhero games in October 2023. The game is already under-previewed by many experts, and aspects like the story, campaign length, and graphics are expected to be better than those in its predecessor. Peter Parker’s Venom suit will open up a whole avenue of skills and combat capabilities. At the same time, Miles Morales’ explosive powers will be expanded on and upgraded for the next-generation consoles.
So far, Spider-Man 2 is being hyped by Sony as one of the biggest games that’ll be released in 2023. Unfortunately, Spider-Man 2 may suffer from the same problems as its overambitious prequel. So, this article is a compilation of the information we’ve gathered from leaks, demos, and insider information about the upcoming sequel.

The Issue of Screen Time Shared Between Peter Parker and Miles Morales
The screen time will be shared between Peter Parker and Miles Morales. But since we haven’t played the campaign yet, there’s no telling who’s getting the longest screen time between both protagonists. Also, GTA V does the best character-switching in the industry. So, hopefully, Insomniac’s version of the character-switching system in Spider-Man 2 will be revolutionary. More so because of the super-speedy SSD hard drive inside the PS5.
Campaign Feels Overpopulated with Characters
If anybody remembers the events of Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 3, it’s easy to see how characters can overpopulate the video game. In Spider-Man 2, there will be two protagonists (Peter and Miles) while there will be at least five antagonists. The majority of Dr Octopus’ supervillain team, the Sinister Six, have already appeared in the demos. Vulture, Electro, and even Lizard are just some of the characters that Peter and Miles will battle in the sequel.
Due to so many characters appearing on screen, we fear the character development will feel rushed in the new game. Each of the characters we’ve mentioned, including the protagonist, has a deep backstory that details their love life, passions, and even how they got their powers. We hope there are enough chapters in the sequel to accurately capture all the moments that led up to the inevitable showdown.
A Small Fix
The only fix is to reduce the number of characters that’ll appear in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. Besides a showdown against all these villains, boss fights might feel shallow because players don’t know their opponent’s history. But judging from the information we’ve gathered so far, Insomniac seems to be taking villains seriously in the sequel. For one, Kraven the Hunter is shown to be hunting not only Peter Parker but also other super-powered individuals who can sate his deep hunger for a fight. There’s also the Lizard whose identity has been confirmed to be Curt Connors, a mentor and friend to Peter Parker. Hopefully, we won’t have to face the Sinister Six again because it’ll make the sequel repetitive.
The Green Goblin Takes the Backseat Once Again
Like in previous games, the Green Goblin is kept under wraps. However, we will witness the development of Harry Osborn into the Green Goblin. But Harry may not appear until Marvel’s Spider-Man 3. Remember that Harry’s father isn’t dead yet, so he’s not driven by revenge to kill his best friend, Peter Parker. But we already see that Norman Osborn has drastically influenced the events of Spider-Man up until the sequel. The Green Goblin is to Spider-Man like what the Joker is to Batman. So, there’s no love lost between both characters, especially as the Green Goblin isn’t motivated by wealth or power, unlike other villains. Rather, Norman Osborn just wants to see Peter Parker suffer for exposing his crimes.
The Contradiction
Luckily for players, Spider-Man 2 will feature a darker plot than the one in the movie, Spider-Man 3. The sequel will highlight Peter Parker’s internal struggle with the venom suit. Along the way, he’ll showcase the bitter-dark sarcasm we enjoyed in Sam Raimi’s movie. Plus, a more aggressive Peter Parker is a welcome change from the pacifist he has been since the first game. Playing as Venom Peter will be a great experience, especially if the visual upgrades are similar to the gameplay in Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales.
Our Final Say
Unlike other Spider-Man movies, the game adaptations have the advantage of time. Spider-Man movies are usually around 2 and a half hours long, right? Well, the new Spider-Man 2 may take upwards of 18 hours for players to complete. It is more than enough time to introduce new characters, including side bosses, the main antagonist, and potential foes in the next game. The new game must weave the story of Peter and Miles together so intricately that it doesn’t take all the attention away from Venom’s development and the introduction of Kraven the Hunter (Among others).
Come October 20, 2023 — Spider-Man 2 will be released for the PS5 and it’ll feature more explosive fights, fast-paced gameplay, more intimate web-slinging, and a host of other interesting characters. No, the sequel to Miles Morales won’t be available on the PS4, so only PS5 owners will be able to play the game. Thankfully, there are tons of games being released in August, so you don’t have to sit bored waiting for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.
