Prominent Changes in Patch 7.04 in Valorant

Patch 7.04 is a significant patch in Valorant, as it implements some of the biggest hero changes that are sure to define the meta for the tournaments to come. Let us dive into the major changes in patch 7.04.
Important Hero Changes

Patch 7.04 saw changes to 11 Agents in Valorant, some receiving minor tweaks while others got major changes. One common change many Agents with a high-impact ultimate got was an increase in their Ultimate ability cost, like Viper. Here are all the Agents that got their Ultimate cost increased:
Agent | Ultimate Ability Cost Change |
Breach | Ultimate points increased 8 → 9 |
Brimstone | Ultimate points increased 7→ 8 |
Killjoy | Ultimate points increased 8 → 9 |
Viper | Ultimate points increased 8 → 9 |
Jett | Ultimate points increased 7→ 8 |
These changes are very important as they significantly change how you strategise in the game. Now, more rounds will be decided on who has the best strategy and who hits their shots on target. Apart from these Ultimate ability cost changes, agents like Fade, Gekko, Omen, Skye, Astra and Sova received minor buffs and nerfs. However, the game can’t be said for Jett, as she was subject to major nerfs yet again.
Jett saw a dash window decrease to its Tailwind ability, shortening the window so Jett could use her dash ability. Other than that, Jett’s Cloudburst ability duration was decreased from 4.5s to 2.5s, and the Updraft charges were decreased to 1. These massive reductions to her more defensive kit significantly hamper her ability to run in and get out without any fear. These changes would definitely decrease Jett’s pick rates in pubs and the esports scene and allow other Duelists to rise to the occasion.

Map Updates

The latest patch introduced us to the new map “Sunset”, which features three lanes and two sites. Other than that, the latest update brought back Breeze to the Competitive and Unrated map pool, while Fracture and Pearl have been rotated out. The return of Breeze introduced us to many new changes the developers made to the map to address many complaints and issues. Most of the changes are done to allow attackers to easily scale up to sites, make Mid more contestable, reduce the effectiveness of post-plant utility and make retake more difficult for defenders.
Player Behavior Updates and Bug Fixes

In the patch, Riot Games increased the readability of the game by adding icons and showing detailed text descriptions, especially when you hover over these icons. The update also categorised the list of post-game reports into groups for better readily and understanding.
Patch 7.04 also addresses issues where Sage’s Barrier Orb would break when you place it between the doors of Garage on Haven. Moreover, a bug was fixed where being killed on Fracture’s ziplines would make your Agent’s body appear in Spawn.
Conclusion
Patch 7.04 was a major gameplay patch released in Valorant after some time. This patch brought major changes to Agents like Jetts, brought Breeze back to the map pool, removed Fracture and Pearl from map rotation, introduced a new map, and fixed some minor bugs. These changes are sure to drastically shift the meta in the game, and only time will tell how the meta shapes up in the future.
