Despite the hype surrounding Marvel Rivals’ closed beta, which ended earlier today, the potential inclusion of Captain America as their 24th character has garnered more widespread attention. According to an image from Twitter user @404LEAKbackup, the art showcases Captain America posing with Storm and Thor.
As for the leak’s authenticity, credible game leaker Miller Ross confirmed the post was factual and that it was the design leak for Captain America in Marvel Rivals. He also confirmed that Captain America is the next character added to the game, bringing the total to 24 playable characters, with other notable inclusions such as Hulk and Spider-Man.
In addition, the picture showing Captain America with Storm and Thor coincides with Ross’s earlier leaks, stating that Cap would become more formidable if put on a team with Thor as one of the game’s team-up abilities.
First Look at Captain America in Marvel Rivals

As seen in the picture above, Steve Rogers, aka Captain America, is sporting an armored outfit similar to the Marvel Rivals versions of Magneto and Iron Man, shown in the Marvel movies. The image also did his image justice by portraying him as someone muscular and bulky while covered in his iconic blue, red and white armor.
In addition, there is speculation about the light blue glow on his hand, which some speculator points to his ability to recall his iconic shield after throwing it in battle. Rumours also suggest that he hails from the futuristic 2099, one of Marvel Rivals’ main themes in some game stages.
Nevertheless, this picture is the first sneak peek regarding Captain America in Marvel Rivals as it is a recent update, but not anywhere that the public would typically see.

Everything to Know About Marvel Rivals
Story and Gameplay
Marvel Rivals is an upcoming 6-vs-6 hero shooter developed by Marvel Games and NetEase, designed to rival popular games like Overwatch 2. It features a roster of iconic Marvel heroes and villains such as Black Panther, Spider-Man, Magneto, and Hulk, each with unique abilities and the potential for powerful team-up skills.
As for what we know thus far, the story revolves around a multiversal conflict initiated by Doctor Doom and his future counterpart from 2099 to mess about with the Timestream, creating a cataclysmic event known as the Timestream Entanglement.
With heroes and villains descending from every timeline, it is up to players in this free-to-play game to combat one another and stop Doom’s plan. In their plans to ensure the typical experience in a fighting game, Marvel Rivals stated the game’s environments are destructible, offering dynamic gameplay scenarios in locations like Asgard and futuristic Tokyo.
Release Date and Platforms

Unfortunately, there is no official confirmation of a Marvel Rivals release date, but players can expect a launch in Q1 or Q2 of 2025, available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. In addition, the game will follow a seasonal model, introducing new characters, maps, and storylines with each season.
However, whether players can collect in-game currency to unlock characters like typical MOBA or through microtransactions is still up on air.
Team-Up Mechanic
Besides taking inspiration from other hero shooters, Marvel Rivals added its unique twist with a team-up mechanic. To summarise, team-up is a critical feature that enhances gameplay by allowing heroes to combine their unique abilities for powerful effects. These team-up abilities can be both passive and active.
For instance, an active team-up might see Rocket Raccoon jumping onto Groot’s back to shoot at enemies, while a passive interaction could involve The Punisher providing a zipline for teammates to use or Doctor Strange opening portals through which players can fire.
Listed below are some notable pairings you can utilise this mechanic:
- Venom + Spider-Man/Peni Parker – Symbiote Bond: Venom lends the spider-pair a bit of symbiote power, giving them expulsion abilities that cause them to turn into a mass of black spikes that damage enemies and push them back. Venom does not receive any extra power from this.
- Scarlet Witch + Magneto – Metallic Chaos: Magneto automatically gains an extra ability that temporarily powers up his greatsword with chaos magic, letting him wield it as his regular weapon, slashing enemies.
- Hela + Thor/Loki – Ragnarok Rebirth: After Hela kills an enemy, she can automatically resurrect Thor and Loki if they are dead. If they’re alive, she’ll give them 100 bonus health instead.
Closing Notes
With everything considered, Marvel Rivals promises an engaging and immersive experience set in the Marvel Universe for casual gamers and dedicated Marvel enthusiasts.
As the game includes Captain America and more beloved franchise heroes and villains, players will have to devise more meta and off-meta strategies to succeed in this multiversal civil war.
