The latest lineup also includes a new smartwatch (Pixel Watch 3) and earbuds (Pixel Buds Pro 2).
Besides the hardware announcements, Made by Google 2024 also introduced several intriguing AI-related announcements, such as Gemini Live, Pixel Weather, Pixel Studio and more.
For those who missed the event, below is a roundup of all the announcements revealed at Made by Google 2024.
Everything Announced at Made by Google 2024
Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 XL

Google seems to have gone all out at its ‘Made by Google 2024’ as they unveiled not one, not two, but three new Pixel phones in its flagship Pixel series. Firstly, the three phones come with a redesigned oval-shaped camera housing, an updated G4 Tensor chip, better battery life, and a new satellite SOS feature.
Moreover, the Pixel phone’s newest series has many AI upgrades, such as a new ultrawide sensor for better low-light capture and improved selfie cameras. For example, Add Me lets users add themselves to photos and upgrades to Video Boost, which can enable 4K video, Pixel Screenshots and Pixel Studio, which we will explain further below.
The three Pixel phones also come with Android 14 and are promised to get seven years of operating system and security updates. Unfortunately, this means that purchases will have to wait a bit longer for Android 15, but Google has reassured us that the phones will update to the newest Android when they release it in October.

Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold
Besides the three flagship Pixel phones, another Pixel phone debuted at Made by Google 2024, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold. According to the tech giant, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold is the thinnest foldable phone and has the largest inner display ever seen on any mobile device. For context, the external screen is similar to the 6.3-inch Pixel 9 Pro, while the internal display is a large 8-inch panel.
Google also mentioned they improved on its Fold predecessor’s outdated chips, as the Pixel 9 Pro Fold will feature the same Tensor G4 chipset and 16GB of RAM as its flagship series and will include all the updated AI features. Moreover, the phone will also run on Android 14 and will have seven years of Android OS updates and emergency features.
Unfortunately, the phone will not have a temperature sensor like the flagship Pixel phones, and its primary camera is only a 48MP sensor, while the other cameras have 10MP resolutions. The phone also weighs 257g, the heaviest of the new Pixel series, and it’s also the most expensive, starting at $1,799 on September 4.

Google Pixel Watch 3

At first glance, the Google Pixel Watch 3 revealed at Made by Google 2024 may not look unfamiliar to its predecessors, as it shares the same Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 chipset, 2GB of RAM, and 32GB of storage. However, it comes in 45mm alongside the 41mm model with thinner bezels that offer more screen immersion, a new ultra-wideband chip and a brighter display that hits up to 2,000 nits.
As with smartwatches, Google has upgraded its fitness system with new personal custom running routines and follow guides to warm up or cool down. The tech giants also included a Morning Brief feature that helps you prepare for the day by summarising insights like sleep, readiness and even the weather.
Lastly, and probably the most crucial improvement, is including a pulse-stopping detector. According to Google, when a wearer’s pulse stops, the detector will call emergency services if the wearer doesn’t respond to a prompt to check in or sense any movement. It is such a vital and helpful life feature as the American Heart Association reported that every year, about 805,000 people in the United States alone have a heart attack.
With this feature alone, the price tag of $349.99 for 41mm and $399.99 for 45mm does not seem unreasonable, considering you can also view live feeds, unlock car doors with UWB, and toggle camera and video modes in the Pixel Camera app.
Google Pixel Buds Pro 2

It has been seven years since Google debuted its first generation of Pixel Buds, and they finally made the proper and needed improvements in their Pixel Buds Pro 2 revealed at Made by Google 2024. Firstly, they enhanced the chips to a new Tensor A1 chip that’s supposed to improve active noise cancellation and make it smaller and lighter.
In addition, the Pixel Buds Pro 2, costing $299, has a wing fin design, which should help them stay in your ears during a workout and features like Clear Calling and Automatic Conversation Detection, which reduce background noise in calls and pause music when you’re talking.
They are also the first Pixel Buds to have Gemini support, meaning you won’t have to unlock your phone to utilise the AI assistant. Furthermore, the Buds’ battery life has improved to last 12 hours per charge without active noise cancellation and 8 hours with it. You can also locate them more easily with the help of Google’s Find My Device network.

Gemini Live
Besides revealing their new products, Google headed on stage to demonstrate their answer to OpenAI’s Advanced Voice Mode, Gemini Live at Made by Google 2024. As the starting act at the event, Google demonstrated confidence with the voice chat as they displayed Gemini Live’s capabilities to have conversational back-and-forths between users and AI.
For example, the voice chat reacts more realistically to human speech and ideally responds more like a human when given prompts, and can even respond using your choice of 10 different voices. Gemini Live can also write emails, build playlists and brainstorm ideas from prompts, as demonstrated on stage.
Pixel Weather and Call Notes
Continuing with AI features, Google revealed that its new Pixel lineup will get its own weather app, Pixel Weather. According to them, users can customise the apps to show only the weather information they want, such as weather reports, forecasts and other related features you expect from weather apps.
Another feature coming to the new Pixel lineup is Call Notes, which Google describes as best-suited to people with goldfish memory. For context, Call Notes will record and transcribe/summarise your calls and conversations. It can also help you recall any information from the call.
Whether it has privacy infringement or any repercussions, we can only wait to decide when we have more evidence.
Pixel Studio and Pixel Screenshot

Lastly, Made by Google 2024 also unveils Pixel Studio and Pixel Screenshot, two AI features aiding your pictures. For the former, Pixel Studio is exclusive to the four new Pixel phones, and it is an image-generating app powered by an on-device generative AI model and Imagen 3 model running in the cloud. It can generate anything you like, from stickers to edits, but you must have a connection.
As for the latter, it is a new app that uses AI to analyse the content of your screenshots, including any captured text, people and objects. Then, it will sort and make the information searchable in the app with a simple button click. The app will even include sources and links from where your screenshots originate.
Closing Notes
Everything considered, the Made by Google 2024 event appears to be a massive success for the tech powerhouse. The arsenal features four new Pixel phones, improved smartwatches and buds, new AI features and a Voice Chat comparable to OpenAI’s.
Google appears to have made a strategic choice to hold Made by Google 2024 event earlier than its usual October cycle. This is likely to give Google ample time to promote its devices well before Apple’s turn to showcase their new handsets.
