After four months of early access on Steam, Shadows of Doubt will be leaving early access on September 26, with a PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S release planned on the same day.
In addition, the unique first-person detective simulation game set in a fully simulated, procedurally generated city developed by ColePowered Games will add new features in its upcoming 1.0 update after the game launches. Unfortunately, the developers have kept a tight lid on things and have only revealed that it is a “big update that would make any private investigator twitch with trepidation. More details will come in the coming weeks.”
Moreover, ColePowered Games has revealed they will be bumping Shadows of Doubt’s Steam price from $19.99 to $24.99 starting August 23. Thus, players interested in the detective game should purchase it now rather than later.

Setting

As mentioned above, Shadows of Doubt sets itself in an alternate 1980s world with a cyberpunk vibe. Each playthrough begins in a different city, with buildings, streets, and citizens generated procedurally, making every investigation unique.
Players must gather evidence by examining crime scenes, interviewing witnesses, hacking into computers, and searching for clues from top to bottom. For example, the cities furnished apartments and complex networks of offices are dense with detail and potential clues and secrets.
Lastly, the game doesn’t hold your hand, meaning you only have yourself to rely on to connect the dots and solve the cases. Thus, take meticulous notes and brainstorm any wild conspiracy theory mind maps connecting the evidence to the suspects.
Gameplay

As a detective game, Shadows of Doubt offers a variety of cases, from simple thefts to complex murder mysteries. Each case is intricately designed with multiple layers, allowing players to approach them as they like. For example, you can solve cases through stealth, clever deduction or even brute force.
Yes, you heard that right. While Shadows of Doubt includes stealth mechanics for those moments when you need to break into buildings or tail a suspect, they also offer a combat option. However, you should only conduct violence as a last resort, as your goal is to solve mysteries, not cause them.
Moreover, players can hack into computers, security systems, and other electronic devices to access vital information. You can also plant bugs or tap phone lines to gather intel without alerting suspects.
Besides the main story, Shadows of Doubt offers a sandbox mode where players can explore the city, take on random cases, and experience detective life without the constraints of a linear narrative.
Multiple Endings

In addition, your decisions have lasting consequences on the game world and its inhabitants. For context, the city lives and breathes independently of the player. Citizens follow daily routines, commit crimes, and react to the player’s actions.
This dynamic world adds to the challenge, as you have to track down suspects who might be on the move or even attempting to cover their tracks. Moreover, your role as a private investigator faces many moral dilemmas. Do you plant evidence to close a case or let a criminal go free to avoid punishing an innocent person?
It is your choice, but every person in the game lives with your decision. For instance, NPCs will react to the player’s actions, remember interactions, and can become more suspicious or hostile based on how you conduct your investigation.
Closing Notes
Shadows of Doubt’s official release on September 26 will definitely appeal to those who enjoy solving complex puzzles, exploring immersive environments, and making tough moral decisions. As Swami Vivekananda once said: “You are the creator of your own destiny.”
