#1: Tame the Beast
Tame the Beast is a long-range runic attack that allows players to swipe at enemies from a distance. Pressing R2 will let you deal even more damage to enemies from a distance. Tame the Beast also inflicts burn and stun with a short cooldown period. Also, you’ll get to use this attack many times.
Where to Find It: Obtain it in Helheim, in The Gleaming Bale mission, “Reunion”.
#2: Meteoric Slam
Meteoric Slam is a heavy runic attack that players can acquire after freeing some of Odin’s green ravens. It’s a powerful slam attack that rains down fire on enemies due to its wide area of effect. This runic attack inflicts burn damage which can be improved by upgrading the runic attack.
Where to Find It: Inside a legendary chest in Niflheim.
#3: Atlas Eruption
Atlas Eruption is a great way to keep enemies at a distance, especially if you’re playing at a harder difficulty. This ability lets Kratos slam his axe into the ground a couple of times to create explosions that burn enemies. Pressing R2 creates even more slam explosions. The attack works wonders when fully upgraded, making short work of multiple enemies at the same time.
Where to Find It: Located in Svartalfheim at the Forge.
#4: Nemean Crush
Nemean Crush is a shockwave attack that Kratos unleashes after swinging both of his blades. It’s a crushing attack that sends any enemy back following the initial swing. The good thing about Nemean Crush is that it creates glorious explosions that absolutely decimate your opponents.
Where to Find It: Inside a legendary chest in Alfheim after freeing Hafgufa’s Bindings.
#5: Tartarus Rage
Tartarus Rage introduces two slams into the ground which launches enemies into the air. You’ll be able to finish off the runic attack by pressing R2, but only after you’ve fully upgraded it. What’s more? The cooldown period is reasonable.
Where to Find It: Inside a legendary chest in Midgard during the mission, “The Word of Fate”.
Best Runic Attacks for the Leviathan Axe
Do you favour the Leviathan Axe more than any other weapon in God of War: Ragnarok? Then, these are the runic attacks you must absolutely have. With 16 runic attacks to pick from, picking our favourites was tricky.

#1: Breath of Thamur
Breath of Thamur has one of the biggest AoE in God of War: Ragnarok. In fact, it’s one of the best attacks for crowd control, but it’s not all rosy. For one, the cooldown period for Breath of Thamur is a bit extreme. Also, you’ll grind as your name depends on it to get the Breath of Thamur runic attack. Finally, acquiring this runic attack will require you to hunt for ravens.
Where to Find It: Inside a legendary chest near The Raven Tree in Niflheim after you’ve killed 28 ravens.
#2: Wrath of the Frost Ancient
The Wrath of the Frost Ancient is reminiscent of the laser attacks used by Ancients in God of War: Ragnarok. It is a laser attack that cuts through players like a scythe through wheat. The only weakness of this attack is positioning because Kratos won’t be able to move around while this runic attack is active.
Where to Find It: It’s inside a legendary chest in Fafnir’s Storeroom.
#3: Ivaldi’s Anvil
Ivaldi’s Anvil is a runic attack that inflicts stun and stagger damage when Kratos slams the axe into the ground. It’s as flashy as other runic attacks, and its wide area of effect makes it worth it. The attack is fast to launch and sure enough, it has a shorter cooldown period than other heavy runic attacks for Blades of Chaos.
Where to Find It: Inside a legendary chest in Midgard during the Mission “The Word of Fate”.
#4: Leviathan’s Roar
The Leviathan’s Roar is a heavy runic attack that absolutely stuns enemies by the multitude. It’s an attack whereby Kratos throws the axe, and it flies back to hit the shield and then, a gust of punishing wind will be released. A fully upgraded Leviathan’s Roar is a joy to behold.
Where to Find It: Inside a legendary chest in Vanaheim, northwest of Freyr’s Camp.
#5: Mists of Helheim
Slam attacks are some of the best in God of War: Ragnarok and the Mists of Helheim take the cake. With a few upgrades to this runic attack, Kratos can freeze enemies by slamming the axe to the floor. It is helpful against both solo and group foes since it gives you plenty of breathing space to pick enemies off one by one.
Where to Find It: Reward after completing the mission, “The Reckoning”.
Best Runic Attacks for Draupnir Spear
With a total of eight runic attacks to acquire, choosing a favourite is hard. So, these are the best runic attacks for the Draupnir Spear.

#1: The Finger of Ruin
It is a spear-based heavy attack whereby Kratos summons a huge storm to decimate his enemies. It’s great for crowd control as it leaves enemies open to Atreus attacks. The Finger of Ruin’s only drawback is that its cooldown period is quite extensive.
Where to Find It: Inside a legendary chest in Niflheim.
#2: Honour the Fallen
Honour the Fallen is a heavy runic attack that sees Kratos slamming his spear down after a huge leap. Holding down R2 charges the slam attack for more damage to enemies. If you need some breathing space, this is one of the best attacks to drive enemies back.
Where to Find It: In a legendary chest in Vanaheim.
#3: Artillery of the Ancients
Kratos will toss up the Draupnir spear, after which replicas of the weapon will rain down on enemies. The quantity of these spears increases with each upgrade you purchase. The only weakness that this runic attack has is its small AoE, since enemies can just walk out of the area the spears are focused on.
Where to Find It: Rewards for defeating the two Drekis in Freyr’s Camp in Vanaheim.
#4: Vindsvalr’s Windstorm
Kratos will summon cyclones onto the battlefield with a swing of the Draupnir spear. Upgrading this runic attack increases the duration of the cyclones while making their travel arcs bigger. Combining this with Atreus arrows will make you cut through enemies at a fast pace.
Where to Find It: After defeating the Flame Phantom in Muspelheim during the mission “The Summoning”.
#5: Thrust of a Thousand Soldiers
After taking a step forward, Kratos will unleash a flurry of stabs at enemies blocking his path. Pressing R1 increases the number of stabs that Kratos makes, which in turn increases the damage to enemies. Due to Draupnir’s duplicating nature, the spears embedded in your opponents can be detonated for a large explosion. This attack also staggers and hurts enemies.
