Normally, studios will announce a game before it’s released. However, Bethesda decided to release the game first and then announce it to players worldwide. The name of the new game is The Elder Scrolls: Castles and it’s a mobile title that was originally developed for Android devices only. That said, Player.com believes the game’s announcement was deliberately delayed since it was released way back in September 2023.

Is The Elder Scrolls: Castles Available on iOS Devices?
Yes, The Elder Scrolls: Castles is available on iOS devices too. However, Bethesda has only released the game for the Philippines after it was announced in 2024. Even then, it’s still a soft launch because it’s not being advertised as, let’s say, The Elder Scrolls 6. Thankfully, the game will start rolling out to other countries in the coming months.
What Is The Elder Scrolls: Castles About?
The Elder Scrolls: Castles is similar to Fallout Shelter in the sense that you manage resources to construct different shelters. Also, Fallout Shelter is free-to-play, which is another similarity it shares with The Elder Scrolls: Castles. Fallout Shelter also lets you manage your time, one more trait we’re looking forward to trying out in Bethesda’s newest mobile game.

Recently, Bethesda mentioned in a tweet, “We’re excited to finally share The Elder Scrolls: Castles, our new mobile game from the team behind Fallout Shelter”. “The team has been hard at work on it for the last few years and we absolutely adore it.
“In Castles, you’ll build your own dynasty where every day in our world is a year in the game’s world. Citizens are born, they die, rulers change, and can be betrayed. This soft launch is one of the first steps as we get your feedback and make changes before it launches worldwide”.
In the near future, The Elder Scrolls: Castles may find its way to consoles such as the Nintendo Switch, PS5, and Xbox Series X. Nonetheless, that port depends on the game’s success. Even then, this is the closest we’re getting to The Elder Scrolls 6, which is supposedly releasing in 2028.
Four Killer Features to Expect in The Elder Scrolls: Castles
The Elder Scrolls: Castles won’t be launched in some regions until late in December. As the name suggests, it’s a game about castles, or, to be more specific, you’re in charge of castles. You will manage the castle’s resources, including its people, to a certain extent. Don’t get it twisted; This isn’t a Victoria game.
#1: Build a Dynasty
The Elder Scrolls: Castles has a fast timeline, so a day in the real world is a year in the game. It stacks up quickly; Thus, you can gain a lot of ground by playing for just one week. Along the way, you can train your people, name heirs, enforce order, and gather resources for the sake of expansion and domination.
You will make tons of choices as a ruler, including determining the fate of your subjects. However, don’t forget that your subjects are capable of deceit too, so don’t push them too much. Otherwise, you’ll be fighting off assassinations left and right.
#2: Manage Your Castle
You can manage your castle down to the smallest detail. This means that you’re basically building the castle from scratch, so you can add rooms or expand pre-existing ones. Likewise, it’s possible to decorate your rooms until they fit a king, so lavish and elaborate monuments are available.
Players can also assign subjects to different parts of the castle to manage. This way, you don’t have to worry about micromanaging your resources. In short, you can put your castle’s management on autopilot. On the flip side, it doesn’t look like you can own multiple castles, so we’re curious about the events that we’ll enjoy when the game is finally launched.
#3: You’re the Ruler
You get to rule over your subjects in The Elder Scrolls: Castles and, true enough, your decisions will have a lasting effect on your kingdom. Your decisions determine whether your reign will flourish or be destroyed. Some of the issues you’ll handle along the way are:
- Who do you side with in disputes among your subjects?
- Should you release resources to your people or hoard them for yourself?
- Will you help a neighbouring country for future favours or ignore their cries for help?
You’re essentially the boss in The Elder Scrolls: Castles. As the ruler, you can decide which sectors of your kingdom deserve which resources. Ultimately, you can collect Diamonds, Gold, Wood, Food, and Oil. To gather these resources, you need to complete quests and orders. Other sources of resources are Packs and Work Tables.
Work Tables are particularly lucrative, so don’t be afraid to upgrade the likes of the Mill and the Oil Press. For one, upgrading your Work Tables will let you produce more Oil, a resource for lighting up your entire castle. You essentially need to stockpile Oil if you want to survive the rainy days.
#4: Complete Grand Quests
You’ve got an editor for creating heroes who you can send to battle evil. Along the way, they’ll collect invaluable items from many memorable beasts in The Elder Scrolls. These items are pivotal to your castle’s growth, so don’t be shy of taking a risk. Heck, the higher the risk, the better the rewards.
Having said that, you can also equip your heroes with epic gear and items to survive the onslaught of enemies they’ll face. Naturally, this isn’t The Elder Scrolls 6, so don’t expect 3D fights. Instead, combat is more about strategy than straight-up action.
Our Final Say: The Elder Scrolls: Castles Compared to The Elder Scrolls: Blades
The Elder Scrolls: Blades is another mobile game from Bethesda and unlike The Elder Scrolls: Castles, it’s not a game about managing your time and resources. Rather, you get to fight enemies in first-person with a variety of weapons, including swords and axes.
To cut to the chase, you don’t have to choose between either game because they’re both free-to-play. Just expect microtransactions, which we hope will be relaxed in future updates. So, it all boils down to which genre you prefer between management sims and first-person action.
