Do you love The Quarry and want to share the joy and horror? Then you need to learn about the different modes of the game and whether the multiplayer modes are worth your time.
The Quarry is an exciting horror adventure game with a pretty cool story. It could almost be called an interactive movie. There’s actually a mode in which you can just watch the game like a movie.
The game offers multiple endings and some achievements cannot be done in just one playthrough. This makes the game highly replayable. Maybe that’s what you want to do, and you’re hoping you can get one of your friends to play with you.
But how do the multiplayer options in The Quarry work? The names of the two available options don’t help much, but this article will! After reading this, you’ll know whether the multiplayer modes are what you’re looking for.
Is The Quarry a Multiplayer Game?
Not really. There are two multiplayer options, but each of them is pretty limited in what they offer. One mode can only be played if everyone’s in the same location, and the other one doesn’t allow every player to control a character.
The Quarry can be great fun in those two modes, but it’s mainly meant to be a single-player experience. And be honest: How thrilled would you be if your friend made a decision that led to your favourite character’s gory death early in the game?
What Game Modes Does The Quarry Have?
In addition to the two multiplayer modes, there’s two other options.
You can play the game as it’s meant to be played: as a single player experience. In that mode, you’ll take turns controlling the fate of every single playable character.
The other mode is the movie mode. This is great if you want to see the story but don’t want to deal with quick time events, interceptions, and decision making. You can choose from “Everyone Lives”, “Everyone Dies”, or the “Director Mode”.
In the “Director Mode”, you can change each character’s settings and see what kind of ending is the result.
How Does The Multiplayer Mode Work in The Quarry?
The multiplayer modes in The Quarry can’t exactly be compared to multiplayer modes in similar games. They definitely aren’t what people had hoped for, but better than nothing!
There are two different options for playing with your friends or other people you already know and no options for teaming up with total strangers. Let’s take a look!
Local Co-op Mode AKA Couch Co-op
Couch Co-op is the perfect option for a night in with a friend or multiple friends. Up to eight players can take part in this.
This isn’t like a LAN-party, if that’s what you’re thinking of. It’s literally in the name: all of you sit on the couch, or wherever there’s space, and take turns playing the game. There’s no need to connect computers or consoles. It’s all on one screen.
There are eight playable characters. You can let the game choose for you via “Quick Start” or assign each character yourself, e.g. player 1 gets Laura, Abigail, Ryan, and Dylan, while player 2 gets everyone else.
The more people take part in this, the fewer characters each of them can play.
Online Multiplayer AKA Wolf Pack
The Wolf Pack is a different story. Everyone who wants to take part needs to own a copy of the game on the same platform. Cross-platform multiplayer isn’t possible. If you’re playing on a PC and your friend is on a PlayStation 5, this isn’t going to work.
One of your group needs to be the host and invite everyone else to the session. Only the host is in control of the characters’ movements. The other players only get a say when it comes to important decisions.
Spoiler-free example: Let’s say a character has to make a decision about whether to be mean or nice to another character. The decision is put in front of everyone taking part in the Wolf Pack session.
If two players vote for mean and six for nice, the character will react nicely. While this isn’t as interactive as the Couch Co-op, it gives you a chance to play together with your friends remotely.
Frequently Asked Questions
How Long Is The Quarry?
The Quarry takes about 10 hours to complete. If you’re interested in doing all the achievements, you’ll have to replay the game at least once, so that would add another 9-10 hours to your game time.
How Many Chapters Are There in The Quarry?
There are 10 full chapters, plus a prologue and an epilogue. While you’re also in control of the game during the prologue, the epilogue basically tells you what happened to each character.
If you enjoy the podcast mentions within the story, make sure to watch the end credits roll, too.
Do I Always Have to Use Interceptions in The Quarry?
Interceptions turn up a few times during the game. In these moments, you have a few seconds to make a decision about whether you want to interfere or take a specific action.
Sometimes, just letting these pass by without doing something leads to a better outcome. Sometimes, not doing anything leads to disaster. It’s your choice.
