Planet Zoo, the well-liked and positively-rated management sim on Steam, is finally getting a console release. Since its release on November 5, 2019, the simulation game where players build and run their own zoo has garnered widespread positivity as one of the best zoo management games available.
Naturally, with such a high reputation, players on consoles would like to try and play the game, but Planet Zoo’s initial release was only for PC. However, after four years of nothing but scraps of speculations to feed on, Frontier Development, the developers behind Planet Zoo and many of its predecessors have released a trailer hinting at the potential release of consoles.

Frontier Development Teases Planet Zoo Release on Consoles
As mentioned above, Frontier Development has released a short ten-second teaser showing a controller on a counter with two characters working in the background. As you can see below, there’s nothing more to add to the trailer, as the developers refrained from mentioning which consoles and when the release date will be.
Nevertheless, the video of the console controller set in the back room of a zoo and featuring out-of-focus zoo employees chatting has fans in an uproar for better and for worse. For example, many fans feel thrilled that Planet Zoo is finally arriving on consoles after Planet Coaster, the predecessor to the Zoo simulation game arrived on PS5 and Xbox Series X in 2020.
On the other hand, some fans maintain scepticism about the game arriving on consoles as they are concerned about how the precise controls could translate from a keyboard and mouse to a controller. As the game requires complex building tools to design every little part of the zoo, some players may find the task tedious on consoles. However, with Planet Coaster serving as evidence, there is little doubt that this concern will remain an issue when Planet Zoo arrives on consoles.
What Is Planet Zoo?
Dubbed the spiritual successor to the nostalgic Zoo Tycoon games, Planet Zoo is a zoo construction and management simulation game, followed after the Planet series by Frontier Development. However, Planet Zoo offers much more customisation and a sense of building your home than its predecessors, such as Planet Coaster.
While the main objective still revolves around making your zoo profitable and successful, the game provides more tools than others to help you build your home from the smallest of details. For example, the game allows players to have total control of their zoo and create unique enclosures for each animal using the different land sculpting tools Planet Zoo gives them access to.
Moreover, the game provides two modes for players – a story mode and a sandbox mode. While the former allows players to traverse the world, checking out the 50 different types of animals in various habitats, the latter provides a place for players to let their imaginations run wild. Lastly, there is also an online mode where players can share creations with the community or absorb inspiration from others. In general, the game provides a well-balanced of enjoyment and work as you wake up daily with your beloved animals.
When Can We Expect Planet Zoo on Consoles?
Moving on to the money question, when can we expect Planet Zoo on consoles? Firstly, since Frontier Development did not give us a specific time and date, we can only speculate by using Planet Coaster as a reference. As the release date for Planet Coaster was November 17, 2016, and its console release date was November 20, 2020, we can safely assume the console of Planet Zoo is nearing its final phase.

Thus, it would not be surprising to see Planet Zoo released on consoles by the end of the year, nearing their anniversary for the game. As for a prediction date, we can only guess around November 2024 to January 2025.
